Guitar Hero: World Tour drum kit gets demoed on video
We've already had a few glimpses of the drum kit for the now-official Guitar Hero: World Tour, but if you want a better look at the device that'll be cluttering up your apartment this fall, you may want to hit up the site linked below, which contains a promotional video showing the kit being played by some actual drummers. There's not a lot of new information to be found otherwise, but as none other than Stuart Copeland helpfully reminds us, the kit is in fact wireless. No headband included though, it seems.

That is NOT a guitar hero drum kit- that's a Roland V-Drums set that retails for more than $1000. I know, I have one myself.
Giroro @ May 23rd 2008 5:24PM
LOL, good call, you got them to change the picture
Jamy Doja @ May 23rd 2008 5:13PM
Yeh, but oddly it is set out like the Guitar Hero drum set, with the 3 drums (red, blue and green).
Ryan Trevisol @ May 23rd 2008 5:15PM
Looks like they attached the guitar-hero pads (but not cymbals?) to the V-Drum frame.
Michael - iBserious Dot Com @ May 23rd 2008 5:23PM
Well if you look closely it's 3 drums (red, blue and green) and two cymbals attached.
Randy @ May 23rd 2008 5:21PM
Cue the influx of "I am teh Jon Bonham" videos on Youtube.

The rockband kit and a V-drums kit (and now the GH4 kit) work in the same way. They're just piezos underneath some shock absorbent medium (the piezos are very sensitive). That medium and the craftsmanship of the drums will really determine the price. It makes complete sense they would start with Roland kits first.
sam @ Jul 3rd 2008 9:55AM
yes but the GHIV is motion censored so that the harder or softer you hit it is how loud the sound is, just like real drums it is also wireless
noot @ May 23rd 2008 5:32PM
Looks like they were using v-drums to lay out the tracks for the songs... at least that's what I gathered.

"the device that'll be cluttering up your apartment this fall"
I think what you meant to say was "the device that'll be cluttering up your mom's basement"
ddub @ May 23rd 2008 5:57PM
Well it looks liked they swapped out the photo for the actual gh drum kit.
Apparently you have to wear safety goggles to use them however.

Why is there so much hype over K-Mart-quality kiddie drums? These things will break in a week. If you are serious about becoming a drummer I'm sure you can find a real, used set on ebay or craigslist.
Russ @ May 23rd 2008 6:05PM
i dont think anyone that plays guitar hero world tour or rock band has any real intention to become a kick ass drummer in real life.. they just want to score big in the game.. get over yourself.. now.. back to my expert drumming on rockband.. *ahem*
RD @ May 23rd 2008 6:17PM
Not to be nit-picky, but his name is spelled "Stewart" Copeland.
And yes, I am going to The Police concert tomorrow night.
kpfeif @ May 23rd 2008 6:23PM
You beat me to it.
And, yes, I'm going to see The Police in July.
Can't wait...wait a minute - I've been waiting since 1983.
Chris @ May 23rd 2008 6:17PM
It's a good thing that they got the professional drummers to play the prototype or else I wouldn't be impressed...
RD @ May 23rd 2008 6:29PM
Good for you, kpfeif! I went to see the Phoenix Police concert last July in the US Airways Arena. Since I'm only 29, I hadn't ever really had a chance to see them in play.
Tomorrow's concert is just icing on the cake for me. Enjoy!

Sounds like Guitar Hero is doing a lot of catch-up to Rock Band. Can't blame Activision, though; Rock Band has been hugely popular, and it makes sense to cash in on the trend. What will be really interesting is to see what Rock Band does to follow-up on its popularity. If they play their cards right, Harmonix could end up showing Activision off.
I guarantee you, though, nothing Activision makes will be backwards-compatible with any previous instruments; they're perfectly content to stuff your living room with incompatible controllers that you shelled out a fortune for. Let's hope like hell Harmonix doesn't make the same mistake.
Striker @ May 23rd 2008 7:23PM
Interesting. Activision bashes Rock Band and Harmonix for having a drum kit that makes so much noise that "everyone in the room yells 'Shut up!'", yet they fail to play the real audio when someone plays the set, just music plays.
Amirisme @ May 23rd 2008 9:16PM
KEWL! I want one! Can't wait for it!
cliffton @ May 23rd 2008 10:12PM
nice ripoff of drummania......
briyani @ May 23rd 2008 11:41PM
Will Farrell plays the drums?! =P
Metsubo @ May 24th 2008 1:50AM
Hey neat another thing they've ripped off from bemani except this time they pulled no punches and even copied the INSTRUMENT exactly. I wonder how long it is until Konami/Bemani sues.
digitallysick @ May 24th 2008 2:51AM
The next guitar game needs to be like guitar hero, or rock band, but with a real guitar and chords.
Armoured @ May 24th 2008 3:18AM
She's so hot!!!!!!!
Armoured @ May 24th 2008 9:44AM
oops...wrong topic
captainpease @ May 24th 2008 11:45AM
Still no hi-hat? I don't get it. How hard can it be to add a hi-hat?
Adam @ May 25th 2008 11:25AM
There is a hi-hat, it is the yellow cymbal
Adam @ May 25th 2008 11:37AM
If there are 5 notes on a guitar(Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, and then Orange) then why are there 6 notes on the drum set(Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, Orange, and then underneath there is a Bass Drum Petal)? Are there going to 6 notes on the screen or is that just so real life drummers have then feeling of a real drum set ?
Phoenix @ Jun 7th 2008 9:13AM
Doesn't the bass pedal appear as a line across? so therefore it'll be 5 plus the line. If not the 6
Mike @ Jul 20th 2008 5:59PM
I've seen it online...Six notes (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange) and there's going to be a purple base line at the bottom
Brian @ May 31st 2008 5:14PM
Looks like the cymbal pads will break off after half a song.
animallover91196 @ Feb 7th 2009 11:39PM
