Santa Fe group allergic to RF wants WiFi banned
We've been hearing for years of that certain elusive breed of human that is extra-sensitive to certain radio frequencies and electromagnetic fields, so it was only a time before those wire-tethered folks took shot across our wireless-loving bow. According to a local NBC news affiliate, Sante Fe resident Arthur Firstenberg (not pictured right) has organized a group of electro-sensitive citizens to rally against WiFi and cellphone use in public space, claiming it violates the Americans with Disabilities Act. No doubt it is indeed a sticky situation, but we're pretty sure Firstenberg and co are going to have to do a little better than claiming to "get chest pain and it doesn't go away right away" if they really expect an entire city (or country) to cease using wireless communications.[Via Fark]

My dick just fell off posting this comment...
This is the most stupid thing I have heard. The world won't change for 100 people that they probably don't even know.
that picture is hilarious
I totally feel for these people.
Me? I'm allergic to stupid people. Whenever I'm around them, I feel ill. I get a headache and feel the need to vomit.
This is why I can't enter a Wal*Mart.
..give them a wi-detector test
how sweet would it be to be a friend of one of these guys-when youre together and he starts feeling "sick", you KNOW that theres a wi-fi hotspot around. an actual human wi-fi detector. i want one for Christmas
thank god the masses don't know we are being bombared with trillions of neutrinos per second,(among otherthings that are all around ud, but cant see) otherwise we'd already have a giant neutrino-blocking wall for these kinds of idiots.
These people must have bad circulation, should go outside more often. I bet they are bald obese 40 year old virgins living in their parents basement.
I think the german government had a study done that showed some negative effects of being around wireless internet devices. and why do they put on the bottom of my router not to sleep closer than 30 cms to it?
as of now these people are probably fools, but Im not saying for sure that wireless is safe and happy for everyone
At first I'd have to agree with the masses that WiFi sickness is just a myth and something that a hypercondric would make up.
But the military does have a working prototype of a non lethal weapon that uses microwaves to make the target feel like they're on fire, watch Futureweapons. (I hate the host, he's such a douche). But it took the military YEARS and millions of dollars to develop this weapon that could intentionally cause discomfort. Having said this I don't think WiFi will do any harm to people.
Microwaves only intereact with matter slightly, and when on the order of watts, you can feel like you're on fire. (In fact, with several 100 watts, you could be cooked!)
But this is a different story: low energy microwave / radio wave radiation on the order of milliwatts that can't do anything.
I get a slight pain if I am right next to a Wi-Fi router but not if im about 1 meter or so away, but even if I did I would not tell other people to turn off their wifi routers so I can avoid a slight headache. By the way this only happens with Wifi but I can be on the mobile for 15 mins and I dont notice anything. Strange!!!
Best.Picture.Ever
Really, Engadget? I expected better of you, than to spread this nonsense.
I bet if they were in danger or having a heart attack they would want some1 with a cell phone to call the police. lol
They must lack iron or something.
My father worked at a military radar base, and some of his colleagues heated them selves up in front of one of the radars (One with an antenna the size of a house). There I can see future health related problems, but with normal power? Hardly.
OK, they're weird.
@gad get
Nah, just microwaves.
Microwaves for cooking food were actually discovered by accident by a Mr Perry Spencer in a similar way- he was working on a radar station while it was on, and noticed that a chocolate bar in his pocket had melted.

They should ban life, that is 100% fatal!!!
Maybe when the robot uprising occurs, they can solve this deadly problem.
There would be no more unethical treatment of elephants as well!!!
Natural selection in progress :). They are not specific either; are they affected by 2.4GHz or 5GHz or both? Why not 900MHz or did they include that in their complaint? Do they use bluetooth and does it affect them at all? :)
So let me get this straight. Wifi is BAD, even though it's low powered, and yet FM and AM Radio waves are not? How about XM and Sirius Satellite signals beaming down everywhere? TV broadcasts. Yet they have is nailed down to Wifi, about the lowest power device around. What a bunch of nut cases.
I, for one, am allergic to butt heads who go around looking for crap to be allergic to!
Go ahead and laugh, thats what people did when the whiny anti-smokers started their shit, now they are trying to stop people from smoking in their own cars. And Cigarettes cost more then $5 a pack. Now I don't smoke, but I'm just saying don't under estimate the power of the Anti- everything crowd.
Oh, WI-FI gives me a head-ache while I'm trying to have my Latte at Star Bucks, Turn it OFF!!!!
im allergic to air so ban it :)
