AMD's Turion Ultra to launch June 3, additional Puma details revealed
We already knew that AMD had its Puma and Griffin-based Turion line coming, but a June 3 launch at Computex is all but confirmed now. The Puma platform will be based on the Turion Ultra processor with an integrated Mobility Radeon 3200 graphics chip along with as WiFi. Discrete graphic chip options will include the ATI Mobility Radeon 3450, 3650, and 3850. SSDs will make a limited appearance due to what AMD is citing as a prohibitive high cost. Nonetheless, it looks like AMD is doing whatever it can to take the spotlight away from Intel, especially now that the Centrino 2 has been delayed.

June is magical. can someone make a list of things thats gonna be released in June? i already lost count.
Yeah really. It's awesome!
I eagerly await Intrepid alpha 1 ;)
June makes me wish I had, or made, more money -- sigh.
My birthday is on june third!! damn arent i lucky
Hopefully this will drive Centrino 2 prices down, by the time they are released in July. I want to jump on an E-series latitude but I can foresee high prices for the new technology.
Whats so 'Ultra' about it? Nothing seems to mention what differentiates a Turion from a Turion Ultra, only thing I can think of is marketing fluff.
Go AMD! Nice to see they are still playing in the big leagues!
GET RID OF THE NORTHBRIDGE
kthx bye
they still make semprons?? what are they like refurbished VIA processors?
My understanding is that the platform is the largest variable in energy consuption and heat disapation.
Even if the Turion Ultra cannot keep pace with the Core2, is the 780g platform supperior enough in graphics and power handling that it makes it worth it in an essentially all-in-one device like a laptop?
I guess we shall see, but I have a feeling this could be nice.
Wait, is this sayign that a CPU is going to have a video card and WiFI embedded?
It's not a puma. (insert proper voice for effect)
why is AMD even trying anymore
I stupidly baught an AMD Athlon for my desktop and a turion for my laptop and both suck
Hopefully this new processor line will do better than that awesome new desktop line that they called Phenom, or that intel called shit
Not that I pay all that much attention to AMD (I'm more of a laptop guy, and they just fail at mobile power), but doesn't the picture say ULTRO?
I'm no saying I know more than engadget or anything like that, but I can read.
wow these comments suck, and so many ppl uninformed about amd, are bashing on it for no reason. We don't know how well these will perform on the benchmarks till it comes out. So ppl making an uninformed statements on a product not even released yet. At least have the decency to wait for the product to come out before bashing it.
its normal...dont worry....im still AMD until Intel can give me a good price/performance...Intel gives me a good performance...but no good price...
So AMD is enough for me and good prices as well
@Pilot101
Well, we know that these are basically just updated K8 processors, so I doubt they are any more than 15% faster than the existing ones..
The only good thing going for AMD's laptop division right now is the fact that processor speed is now so fast for your average user that it really doesn't matter which processor you get as long as it is somewhat new, and AMD's platform will come with much better integrated graphics than Intel.
Also, supposedly there are a lot of new energy efficiency improvements in these new processors, so hopefully they'll be competitive with Intel in that regard, and of course they will be cheap.
btw, what I said about most modern processors being fast enough for most people is definitely true for me, and I would definitely consider myself a "power user". I have a 2 year old Dell Inspiron that only has a dual core Intel "Core Duo" @ 1.86 Ghz cpu. I am constantly debugging and compiling in Visual Studio, running virtual machines, editing large design work in Photoshop, modeling and animating in Houdini/Cinema 4D, and more. And it keeps up great for a portable workstation. At least until Intel's Nehalem is ready which will be a serious upgrade, I'd advise anyone buying a new laptop to not buy the fastest Core 2 Duo (or AMD) processor available. I'd definitely save the money and use it for upgrading the RAM, graphics cards, and screen. Seriously, 300-500mhz isn't going to do much compared to a much better graphics card and 3-4GB of ram.
