Asus denies cancelation of Eee 900 in favor of 901
It's starting to sound like that DigiTimes report, which holds that ASUS is ceasing production of the Eee PC 900 in favor of the upcoming Atom-based 901, might just be false. Notebook Italia has it from an ASUS rep that the account is totally untrue, and that both 900 and 901 models will be produced and sold alongside one another (for now, anyway). And given that it's DigiTimes, we might just be able to put this one to bed.[Thanks, Sergio]

Thats good news since many wish to buy the 900 but not the 901, due to its uglier design and higher price. I prefer the 900 as well for now.

Asus, how hard is it to just release the 900 in black?
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ May 31st 2008 2:29AM
I'm sure it was released in black, I think in Taiwan only for now.

I want the 900, but then I realized I kind of wanted the onboard bluetooth of the 901... other than that, the design isn't as nice (Eee logo is hideous) and the price is ridiculous. The Atom (the current one at least) is nothing to get too excited, it will be about the same performance and maybe save you 5-10% battery. That, and the insane price tag is what's making me get the 900, I can easily get a usb bluetooth adapter, which is a bit of an annoyance, but whatever, I can deal with something small like that. The only reason I am hesitating on the 900 is for now, it only comes in white, and I really want black, but I don't want to spend any more money on a laptop I haven't bought yet (I already bought a USB-powered small DVD burner for $150, a 16GB SDHC for my program installations on vista, 2GB RAM to run vista more efficiently and a 32GB for a complete clone of the SSD that I will periodically clone for restoring. Also, the rest of the space on it will contain some media files on it.) I still haven't ordered my Eee, and I payed about $450 for these (necessary) things for when I get one, but does anyone else think I should get the MSI wind or something that's compatible with a 2GB DDR2 667 and a great value in comparison to the eee? I really want to get an eee for school and just to throw around, but even $550 for a 20GB SSD laptop is asking a little much.

ahh, the simplicity of the Eee....

Meh, waiting for the MSI Wind.

According to the linked article Asus states that the 901 will have up to 7 hours of battery life and an increase of weight:
"Eee PC 900 pesa meno di 1Kg; Eee PC 901 avrà una batteria capace di raggiungere le 7 ore di autonomia."
That means a bigger battery for the atom version. One could call that news. ;)

i say that if you want cheap pc, you get a $500 dell
if yo want a small pc, you get a tablet hp
if you want a small and cheap pc, well, it cant be done unless you want the quality of a chinese painted toy for a computer
the later is what any of these EEE's are going to be
Any Kid @ May 31st 2008 12:44PM
For me, a 15 inch dell just isn't an option. I need something very small that I can lug around with my books. Purchasing an HP tablet is about twice the price, if not more. I use my Eee to view powerpoints for class and look up/keep data for labs. It does both very well while retaining great battery life. Similar priced Dells and Compaqs have abisimal battery life in comparison.
The Eee isn't for everyone but for some of us its a great fit and definately not a toy.
philly @ Jun 1st 2008 12:55AM
check ur facts peepee/any kid or whatever name u wanna go under. this eee is MORE EXPENSIVE than the wind and has half the battery life. it's going to be more expensive than the dell and most likely with the same battery life. last i checked, u get about 3 hours from this and u can get 3-4 hrs from a dell as well easily. everyone knows that the eee has terrible battery life even with its ssd
and btw i get mid-grade and white eggs.
Todd @ May 31st 2008 6:53AM
This excessive Eee coverage is getting ridiculous. Get back to the 3G iPhone.... :)
Darren @ May 31st 2008 7:24AM
Just put some product on the shelves so I can buy something. wait wait wait...;-)
Richard Lai @ May 31st 2008 7:59AM
Of course they would like to sell both alongside each other, so that people will naturally compare them and then buy the 901 because of the higher clock speed (even though it is not necessarily more powerful) and extra features.
guru @ May 31st 2008 10:27AM
just put a hsdpa module in any of the 2 models and i'll buy that one.
hypertexture @ May 31st 2008 12:04PM
i've got a black eeepc 900 - they're available in the uk.. linux version, transformed to xp, encrypted with truecrypt for security.. standard 4400mah battery is pants - two hours tops.. performance is ok for what it is.. have got 2gig ram and a 6600mah third party battery on order which should make it sweet.. it's a lush pc :)
philly @ May 31st 2008 12:52PM
either the wind or the dell for me
Peepee @ May 31st 2008 2:11PM
Philly,
Will you be buying premium or regular unleaded? Also should I buy brown or white eggs? I need to know your opinion on these purchases.
