HP exec cuts birthday cake with MacBook Air
Those that know Rahul Sood, founder of Voodoo PC and CTO of HP's global gaming business, might not be so surprised to hear he used a working MacBook Air to cut his thick, rich, chocolatey birthday cake. While wearing an HP shirt. And then posted it to his site. Good luck, Rahul -- we're totally sure the Apple fanboys of the world are going to give you a pass on this one.

OMG... It hurts...
Not because it's an Apple but because it's a $1799 computer that they're getting sticky cake in all the nooks and crannies of.
Don't you realize it was a publicity stunt? The HP shirt? The insultination of Apple?
Of course I did.
It still hurts...
It's like watching Bond crash an Aston Martin or seeing some of those kids smashing a brand new game console or iPod outside the waiting line.
i believe that was his brithday present and he used it jokingly
So senseless and yet so dumb.
so redundant, and yet so repetitive.
Yeah, he should have used one of those $400 HPs.
Then again, it would have squished the cake instead of cutting it...
Yeah, this is good for Apple! Apparently, the Air is so thin you can use it as a knife! Sweet! ...Cake!
Warning Will Robinson... Air'or! Air'or!
"With my cool new CompuKnife, cutting cake--into perfect radians--really is easy as Pi!"
That's okay, I wipe my ass everyday with HP toilet paper!
Not to worry - The Cake is a Lie. the macbook air is fine.
it might be worth $1799 but its put to right use ;)
well...founder of VOODOO you know he can afford to cut a cake with a $1799 knife
I like his sense of humor, but if El Jobso did this with some hp lappy, like Greg said, it'd be squished like hell.
i think an ipod nano would be more of a cake cutting knife the mba is more like one of those butcher knives.
I know this is a publicity stunt... I just wish he had put the $1800 to a more practical use. It just seems obscene to be wasting money like this when there's so many people in dire need - especially with the recent string of natural disasters (tornadoes in the US, earthquakes in China and the cyclone in Burma/Myanmar).
just for the record, i think this guy is a douche.
That's an awful lot of money wasted just to get your (very crappy) pictures posted on blogs like Engadget. I wish I had enough money to be a dick like that. :(
@ Charles Lee
that was no cyclone that hit Burma, that was John Rambo.

WOW Dude really? How did you figure that out... WOW, you should send your CV to Apple they need such a smart people like you...
^-^
Could you please mail that MacBook Air to me? I'd be glad to take it off your hands.
Finally someone found a use for it.
Atleast it's useful for something, eh?
Agreed, it's the first time I've seen a mac being useful haha.
lol Kralos,
Aww... Why do you have to be racist against Macs?
The famous Lawrence Livermore Lab that I live next to requires its employees to use Macs. So a lot of the most advanced national security technology was made on Macs.
So if you're gonna diss it... Diss the Air. :)
"bigoted" is the catch all term for bias, just FYI for the next time you open your mouth. It's kind of funny though that your comments balance out with two highly ranked and two low ranks.
@User
"Why do you have to be racist against Macs?"
... I didn't realize Mackintoshes were a race...
I wonder if the NAACP will step in to prevent further atrocities against Macs.
Other Apples too often hate the Macintosh race.
Wow, guys. I was joking. Of course I know Macs aren't a race. lmao
Eds,
If you took my comment seriously then "bigotted" is the wrong term to use. The term which most closely aligns with my sarcastic usage of the word "racist" would be "discriminatory." The word "discriminatory" does not apply exclusively to people.
Oops, I means "Reader" not "Eds."
Wow, I guess the majority of people out there have lost all faith in humanity. Should I honestly have used a "/sarcasm" tag in that comment? That's pretty sad... I thought everyone would clearly recognize that my sarcastic tone... Calling him "racist" and then using a ghetto slang term at the end of my comment.
What's really funny is that Kralos got very offended by my comment. Why is there so much tension between Mac and PC owners? They're CONSUMER PRODUCTS. Don't get all upset if someone likes a consumer product that you happen to dislike.
@ User
OK, that hole's deep enough. Go find a new patch of dirt now.
@ Eds
I heard they are forming a division for the online protection of black MacBooks and iPods
Epic Kill !!!!!
Sam
you mean the Panthers or Leopards X
@ Eds
So, macs aren't a race, eh?

"Look honey, not only does the computer allow me to do the taxes and watch the internet, it serves as a ginzu knife! Bring me some aluminum cans!!"
That's mighty funny.
NAACP stepping in? I'd think it'd be the NAASJA (Nat'l Assoc for the Advancement of Steve Jobs' Agenda)
Good for him. What else is that 1800 dollar paperweight good for.
Probably not even a good paperweight. :P
Have you picked one up? It doesn't weigh enough to be an effective paperweight. It's probably best used as dull knife.
(Or for taking notes in college like I'm going to use it for... But I'm going to be getting it for way cheaper than MSRP so that's a different story.)
Why don't you buy a glass paperweight and A) Save precious space on your desk, and B) save $1798?
This isn't the $1800 version. It's the $3000 solid-state drive version.
Why don't you get the Wind? Isn't it cheaper? Doesn't it have the same CPU power? Isn't it the same thickness/smaller?
@ User
You seem so defensive over people making fun of the terrible mac. I almost think you were one of the people suckered into buying one of them!
Nizzy, does it mean I was "suckered into buying one" if it most closely meets my needs?
@Engadgetluvsappl
You get credit just for the name...thats ace.
The MacBook Air can also be used as a very effective weapon against attackers and street prowlers!
-Steve Jobs
@User: What exactly are your intentions with it? I mean, it's not made for graphics work, 3D design, or mostly anything to do with media. Either way, the EEE, the Wind, and other cheaper (see:
@User: What exactly are your intentions with it? I mean, it's not made for graphics work, 3D design, or mostly anything to do with media. Either way, the EEE, the Wind, and other cheaper (see: sub-500) computers are worth well in their weight of note taking...
Thing is.. If stopped by airport security...Could you be charged for carrying a conceited weapon
it's only 3 pounds. My wii makes a better paperweight that that, and it's only $250! (and that's practically what it's doing right now)
People who can afford Apple products, are increasingly choosing Apple over PC's, at least that's the way it's trending; the stock price is reflective of this.
These people are also known as "senseless Americans".
They are also known as MySpace whores and kids who think they have any musical talent. But don't.
I wish i could give you two negative votes. One for your comment and one for your avatar.
These senseless Americans have made me quite a bit of money with my Apple call options.
Oh, and I refer you to this:

money shot: "Those who surf the Web using a Mac tend to be better educated and make more money than their PC-using counterparts, according to a report from Nielsen/NetRatings."
@Alex
two things why that last 'moneyshot' is flawed:
a) Macs are a niche market, unlike the PC market as a whole, it would be more correct to compare it to a brand, say Alienware, Dell, Asus, etc.
b) Apple's marketing team are pretty much the best around, and 'senseless americans', as someone above put it, are suckers for good marketing campaigns, lie the rest of us. Macs are aimed at rich kids, rich kids usually go to private schools, etc
Alex, that can be attributed to a variety of things. Macs typically cost more than windows counterparts, therefore those people that own them are probably already making more money. Owning the computer is the effect of wealth, not the cause as you insinuate.
Alex, I don't think you fully understood the underlying joke in my comment. I guess it was too ambiguous, or, you're a mac user.
Are you confusing intelligence with education?
Bush went to Harvard...
"Those who surf the Web using a Mac tend to be better educated and make more money than their PC-using counterparts, according to a report from Nielsen/NetRatings."
In order to buy a Mac you have to make more money.
Those the make more money tend to spend it with less discretion than those that make less.
Those of us who are on a budget look at the machines, and realize a PC can do anything a Mac can do for less and with greater flexibility (Read: competitive prices) on hardware.
If you're a Mac user, and are happy, then that's great. Why can't Mac users say the same for PC users?
Well to be fair he did say "better educated" not "smarter"
@ jtc970
if harvard alumni is a race, you are racist
I'm typing on a mac right now. They have a steady following in the arts community and are generally accepted as the go-to machine for visual artists. Mine has served me exceptionally well in my career.
My only caveat is that it's crap for gaming, but hey whatever - it does what it does well.
Only reason why I am getting a Mac Pro is for Final Cut Studio 2. Plus, I would be able to run the windows based editing programs as well on it so it works for me. Still prefer PCs at the moment.
I think its worth pointing out that this HP exec is in charge of a division that makes a laptop with a 2.8 ghz Core 2 Duo processor and a nVidia GeForce 8800GTX 512mb.
I'm neither senseless, nor rich. I'm still paying for my MacBook Pro that I love to death, and my wife now has my old PowerBook. I will (Lord willing) never purchase another Windoze-using computer platform again. (And by Windoze-using, I mean a computer {PC} that comes with M$ Windoze on it.)
I can see why you fell to Apple's marketing hype. You are too stupid to even spell Windows!
It's like the Mac users that somehow think using an Apple computer makes you "artistic", which in itself is an extremely vague and interpretable adjective. Conversely, a lot of these people also think that you can't be "artistic" without using an Apple computer. It's funny how they fail to realize that using one piece of technology over another has nothing to do with the inherent skills or attributes possessed by a person.
Finally, can we stop calling Windows based machines "PC's"?? Just because Justin Long says Macs aren't PC's doesn't mean they aren't. Last time I checked, even Apple computers are "personal".
Never - I say NEVER - say money shot on this family site again!!
And I am sure the virus and worm writers are taking note of this.
any computer you can put porn on is personal imo. or at least it should be...
It wasn't even a Portal replica cake! COME ON!
Delicious cake
This was a triumph!
I'm making a note here: Huge Success!

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!
THE CAKE IS A LIE!
He should use a knife next time. Those work really well.
What? He is screaming for attention? Oh...nevermind then. Use an ipod next time.
@Thermos14
By crashing a Ferrari into the cake, do you mean like an F430, or something more like this: http://www.bushfurnitureplus.com/acfenola1.html
just curious
Either one will do just fine.
"Hi, I'm an exec at HP, and I make so much money off my customers that I can use an $1800 implement to cut my cake. Keep buying my products so I can do it again next year!"
Perhaps next year he will cut his cake by crashing a Ferrari into it.
Yeah HP must have an insane net profit margin! Take a look in the HP Corporate breakroom and you'll find forks, Macbook Airs, and spoons in one of the drawers.
or maybe next year hell go steampunk with a steam powered knife, of course it would be powered by burning money.
Umm, why is this an insult to Apple? The computer is so thin it can cut cake? I want one even more now. At least if I'm ever without a knife I can just use my laptop. It's like the swiss army knife of computers.
I agree. I don't what people are whining about.
Yeah I took it almost as advertisement for Apple.
Is the MacBook Air over hyped and over priced?, Yes, But I would still take that MacBook Air laced with cake over a new HP laptop.
No, it's a big deal because it's so *sharp* it can cut through cake. Didn't you see the dude with the gash on his arm from his MBA? Sounds like a big deal to me.
Lol, what a punch in the face. Total PWNAGE!
Rahul Sood 1
Steve Jobs 0
Well, he couldn't use an HP to cut the cake! They're so big and clumsy he would have smashed the whole damn cake and to eat it with a straw.
Lots of Apple haters here! Let me know when another company innovates like Apple does, I'll be happy to buy their products instead. Been waiting for 15 years so far...
@McHateyHate
Show me one "innovation" that Apple hasn't copied from another company.
@ Striker
User-friendly OS.
@gad get
How is it user friendly in the least bit? You have an unstable operating system, powered by snippets of code that weren't even come up with by Apple, with unnatural key combos that will dislocate your fingers before you can figure out how to right click, all topped off with a browser that takes no action to prevent carpet-bombing of executables to your desktop.
