In case it wasn't
completely obvious already that Toshiba had a thing for AMD's
latest line of notebook processors, here's all the confirmation you need. Tosh has just made official that the next-generation of Athlon, Turion and Turion Ultra CPUs will be "available throughout" its Satellite lineup. If you're hunting specifics, we're talkin' about the P300D, A300D, M300D, U400D, L300D and L350D series -- all of which are scheduled to go on sale sometime this summer from a variety of fine retailers.

C'mon AMD... you can do it!
Although Centrino is a dominant brand, and Core 2 Duo processors are going to be faster than these "Turion X2 Ultra" chips, this new AMD platform does have some advantages.
1) AMD's integrated graphics on this 'Puma' platform blow the doors off Intels lame attempt, including hardware support for HD video.
2) AMD's platform supports "hybrid graphics" or whatever it is called. This allows you to arbitrarily switch between integrated graphics and a full-power discrete GPU card, so your laptop gets both excellent battery life AND has powerful graphics when necessary.
3) Although K8 was never designed as a mobile chip, the power saving enhancements taken from Barcelona/Phenom *MAY* allow "Turion X2 Ultra" AKA "Griffin" to have a better power profile than the Core 2 Duo. That's a BIG MAYBE, I have yet to see any benchmarks.
