The 3G iPhone not unboxed
Hey look, that NDA box which Apple never, ever sends was opened to reveal a severely misaligned reflection. Next.
[Thanks, Hays Y.]
[Thanks, Hays Y.]

Anyone wonder what the letter reads?
I can sort of make out:
SUBJECT TO TERM (-INATION)
DO NOT OPEN UNTIL
WTF?
It says subject to terms of NDC (Non-Disclosure Contract). Do not open until (was it further noticed or Monday? I forgot and I'm too lazy to check.) Just like on the envelope that was in the other post.
The reflection looks correct. I think it LOOKS white because of the protective plastic sheet that's wrapped around it when you first get it out of the box. The plastic sheet is reflecting the white papers and ceiling and other stuff. The reflection of the box looks okay to me~~
Does anyone know why there is a CD there?
On second thought i think its completely fake.
Logic says its fake because:
a) if they opened it this much they would have revealed it all, not just a cover glimpse to cause mass hysteria
b)Its quite strange how the phones presented - just about enough to show it could be the new phone and even shows the NDA letter with the date which we know says "do not open until 10th June" and its just been repeated - why not show us something we dont know? Showing us something we know just to make us relate to it and think "it must be it, thats the nda we know it has"
c) Well it looks like shit in all honesty
I have seen a photo here too; http://hajix.com/apple-iphone-3g-new-pro/
It is real!!!!
http://web.mac.com/ngal/Site/Blank.html
My thoughts on the picture
Cool. I hope new iPhone does come in multiple colors. I am very much looking forward to updating my old iPhone with 3G version.
I am curious if .mac will be updated as well. This is the weak spot in the Apple's product range and something that they can improve - email, pictures, backup, online address book, social networking, online version of word processor and spreadsheet software - all this tightly integrated with Mac and iPhone / iPod.
Hey, I think Apple even should launch their own search engine. I think they can get a lot out of their own advertising model - imagine free iTunes movies / TV shows and free apps from forthcoming Apps store all supported by ads.
Here's a video of the unboxing on YouTube!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgXvR97Wk6g
I have checked the picture on photoshop, it pixelates over the "camera" up front. So FAKE. So I guess there will be no video conferencing yet. At least on this version, perhaps newer or different Gen 2 iphones will pop-up on monday.
rofl. man I needed that chuckle. This is why I love you kids at Engadget. Thank you for making my crappy day brighter :)
Actually, my guess is it's real because 1) the inner layout and size of the box seems to match very well with the other picture (the "NDA Box" one) although it's taken from a completely different angle. That would be some *serious* Photoshop work with a lot of 3D imagination and although we might dispute the reflection, I doubt that someone able to create 2 flat pictures with matching 3D layout would mess up a reflection, 2) The outer sizes/ratios of all three boxes (this, the unopened one and the it's-so-fake-engaged-says one) seem to match pretty well, 3) shape and colors of the iphone are consistent 4) the disputed reflection changes appropriately based on surface (glass vs. plastic vs. paper covered with foil) that's reflecting - again, something that is definitely harder to pull off than adjusting angle
Honestly, I'm inclined to agree.
It could very well be a display model shipped out early in a nondescript box.
People are saying that it's fugly...I'm not so sure. Think iMac. When was the last time you saw a brushed aluminum face on a phone? Very durable, less subject to smudging, much more computery. If, on Monday, Jobs reveals a white brushed aluminum one and a a change on the MacBooks to brushed aluminum, it would solidify their whole brushed aluminum look on virtually all their product lines.
The iPhone supposedly runs on OS X, right? Think of the commercials: an aluminum iMac...digitally morphs into a MacBook Pro...spins and shrinks into an aluminum MacBook...folds up and shrinks again into an ultrathin brushed aluminum 3G iPhone..."The power of Leopard...the beauty of Apple." Etc., etc.
Besides, think how sexy the iPhone would be if it was brushed aluminum on the front and super-thin! Can anyone say "micro-iMac"? Can anyone say "Newton 2"?
One other thing: that little pip could just be the ambient light/proximity sensor. Or, it COULD be a front-facing (hallelujah amen) camera...it is possible that the leaked 3G firmware we have seen is only the new operating system for the OLD iPhones - they will get exchange service and the App store and stuff like that, so it's possible that this is either a modified version of the new firmware for the old phone OR an interim version that doesn't have the camera drivers yet.
Ah, well...we'll see on Monday.
okay, GUYS THIS IS REAL!!!... 100%... and ill tell you guys why right now... remember after engadget posted the pix of what everyone deemed to be those "fake" to fat to be real nano's last time? what happened? the site that those pix originated from went down shortly after and when it came back up it said that they were forced to remove the pix due to apples legal team... anyone remember that? so does anybody find it awkward that the original link and website which always works is down now? give it a few more hours guy and you'll see when it comes back up the pix will be gone due to apples legal team..
A-HAH!!! ok. so in the first pic when the top is still on the box and the letter is over it the "iphone's" box is in the same position right? right. BUT the position of the box showed the batterylife/top of the phone facing right side of the brown box... and on this pic (all assuming he didnt take it out and turn it around.......) the top of the phone is on the other side facing the left side of the brown box.. and from all the iphones ive seen they always position the top of the iphone inside the box w/ the picture outside.
i think?
Who doesnt love engadgets sarcastic comments about these fake iphone\ NDA packages?
Thr reflection is correct, look carefully.
iThe white frame is only a protection film.
looks nice!
if the envelope came with the box, why would there be a stamp on it (they "covered" it up). its still hard to say if the stamp censor could change everyones mind. i'm just trying to make a point.
if you ain't first, yer last!
BTW it looks like the red iPhone we saw in the earlier post. DigitalColor Meter is showing 14.9% red, 9.8% green, 8.6% blue.
~.~ just a thought.
2 FREAKING DAYS PEOPLE...
I mean, if you had a life, you'd know to just wait for it rather than draw unnecessary attention to yourself and your crappy photoshop awarness...
It will be in your hands soon people, just calm the heck down.
it's funny how comment posts, like history, repeat themselves so often on this site... it's like i'm playin cards with my brothers kids or somethin...
i think its a fake. i say that because
1) the reflection doesnt look to be in the right place, if you think about it, shouldnt the far side of the plastic be reflecting that piece of cardboard instead of the letter which i think would be out of sight from that angle.
2) would apple really take the front of it and make the screen stick out like dogs balls so that it looks aweful when the screen is turned off?
3) if apple did change the front to aluminium then they would have to have a join between the glass touchscreen and the aluminium. this wouldnt contribute to the clean look that apple is continually trying to achieve. i wouldnt believe that apple would put glass over aluminium
4) by sharpening that image in photoshop, i can tell that the camera lens is perfectly round. if that wasnt just a dot in photoshop then wouldnt it have some sort of perspective to it which would make it appear oval? i have changed the perspective in photoshop to make it look like the photo was take from above, the camera is now suddenly oval! here the picture:

5) around the edge of the phone there is some white crap. looks like a nasty job of a cut out in photoshop to me.
the white stuff around the iphone = cutout messyness from photoshop? lol no way dude. if you're such a "close observer" you would notice that the entire box/open thing is reflective, due to some possible reflective wrapping, and the white stuff would be light reflective off the platers where the wrapping is curving between the edge of the phone and the box that it's in...
but then again, i could really care less about whether it's a fake or not, personally it looks kinda fake, the aliminum looks kinda weirdish, but i love to disagree with you people who think they're so cool cause they can call it FAKE! cause everyone else is... (im not saying you)
the design and the colour is horrible, hopefully it fake
It's fake (I hope), Apple doesn't include CDs with iPhones/iPods.
Phew!
I think this is real, and you can all hold me too it...i'll be laughing at all you who thought it was fake because you have trouble having a little faith...
then again you all may be laughing at me for being so gullible, lol.
You will never believe this but.....I have the seen the new iPhone!! What you are about to see may shock you; click on the link if you dare! Here it is in all it's 3G'ness Bow Down oh holy iPhonites the second coming is here:

P.S. Photoshop is fun for many things...graphic artists, such as myself, will never waste their extremely valuable time making fake phones to pass off on blogs. (even though that's what I just did)

I can only imagine the piss that has been spilled in many a fanboy's pants prior to clicking on the previous comment's link. For you iPhonites, I apologize for the loss of electrolytes as you chose to fully commit yourself to the belief that this one little link was going to bring you one more step to an AppleGasmic (TM) experience and cause you to gingerly skip to your nearest Apple store and wait in line like you did for Star Wars (yes you are one of them; I know and everyone else here knows) only to be let down because Apple made an agreement with SoftBank of China only and now you have to relocate yourself there to get a crack at it - Jobspeed iPhonite Fanboy, Jobspeed
So much anger for such a little joke...
In my opinion this photo can be real...
The problem with the reflex is that it is reflecting something from behind that looks like the box... That box color behind the paper (letter) could be another box or a painted wall of that color so the box being not aligned with the wall gives the impression that is all messed up... The letter reflex is 100% accurate... I heard somebody saying that the little black dot (front camera camera) was to pixelated to be real .. So what is not pixelated in that picture ? huh?
I think this could be real...
Is it just me or does no one else remember that the first iPhone didn't come with an install disc? Why would this one need one when you can just dl a new iTunes update, then sync up?
I'll tell you this, this is the display kit all the Apple store managers received last week prior to tomorrows launch. The CD is the newest version of iTunes that'll be out later tomorrow afternoon. This is so all iMacs in store will have the newest version on display with the 3G iphones. And yes, with the enhanced bandwidth, video calls will now be a reality with a cell phone. This pic was taken in a Apple store back room with a poor quality (2MP) cell phone camera. If you notice the envelope reads, "Subject to Terms of NDA. Do not open unt(il Monday June 9th 2008)" The address and stamp are censored because this guy will not only lose his job but will probably be seeking a lawyer if he didn't. (Apple would be on him quick!) I love the reverse psychology of all the hired Apple saboteurs on the blog sites. I love it Steve, I'd have done the same thing! THIS IS REAL. The original site where this pic was taken is now down! Looks like Australia got theres recently too:
http://www.iphonesavior.com/2008/06/mysterious-do-n.html
Original Site:
http://web-mobile.net/
I was in an AT&T store yesterday buying a Blackberry Curve, which is amazing by the way, and the clerk let slip that the iPhone comes out on the 9th. Tomorrow.
It looks like one of those Knockoffs from China, maybe for the front color change.
Website is still up or has just come back up with the images still on it
http://www.web-mobile.net/
Note the address on the letter is in Sydney Australia so this is the same image that is getting around on Australian forums and sites. interesting the open date for this box is the 10/06/08 is this because if it had the 09/06/08 Australa would openeing the box before Jobs had the opportunity to announce it?
If I was engadget, I'd take down the image in this post and say that Apple legal contacted you to take it down.. just to screw with everyone ;)
All this talk about the reflection is ridiculous. The reflection is the envelope sticking out of the box NOT the CD/DVD, and it lines up perfectly. This pic was clearly taken with a cell phone camera, so you can't really expect a hi-res, amazing quality pic of the new iphone, especially of the front facing camera. I don't think someone who opens a "Do not open" box in the back of a store and is potentially risking his job isn't going to bust out his SLR camera...It looks pretty damn real to me, especially if you check out http://web-mobile.net/ where the guy even now posted a pic of the back!!!! All black back, looks good. Either way, this will all be settled tomorrow, but my money is on that these pics are the real deal.
Engadget really needs to stop thinking they're so great and they know everything! I actually remember them posting some fake images and saying "They're real, not fake. For sure!" or something like that.
Web-mobile is online again and I have to say that I think that the other two photos...look real too, you can see in one of them a box of the iphone, and in the other you can see the back of the iphone....we'll see tomorrow
the photo is 100% real. those who said it's a messed up reflection need to get ur eyes checked, it's a legit photo, and is most likely a legit iPhone- but possibly not a version to be released.
Isnt a Fake My Friends Just Remember that :

The picture on Hajix.com is fake. The antenna is still on the bottom, and the back is still aluminum like the current iPhone. It doesn't match up with the other picture with a black back.
Also the antenna on the bottom was a complaint of many, saying they were dropping calls because their hand was covering the antenna, lowering reception.
I'm sure it will change, and be something like the iTouch antenna.
I don't see the back made in alluminum, I think is the reflection of the plastic where the iphone is on.
I have to say that 4 differents photos...and they look so real... I am starting to think that this may not be a hoax.
Anyway we'll find out tomorrow
I think it's real.and I also dont thinks its white. Thats onle the plastic layer.
We'll see.
Greetings
Meanwhile a similar package has appeared in Australia:
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/06/06/aussie_apple_resellers_receive_boxes_with_do_not_open_warning.html
Maybe this should be taken a bit more seriously
Proof that it isn't real. Watch towards the end.
