ASUS shows off G50V / G71V gaming laptops
Wait a second -- you mean ASUS actually had something other than subnotes at Computex? Tucked away in some surely obscure corner were these two gems: the 15.6-inch G50V and 17-inch G71V. The first of the two rigs was packing a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GT graphics card, a WXGA "3D display," Intel's Centrino 2 platform, support for 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a pair of 320GB SATA drives and a sturdy keyboard built for gamers. The larger sibling was said to posses the same GPU and platform, though it was sporting twin 500GB drives and support for DDR3 memory / CPU overclocking. Beyond that, we're left to wonder what on Earth could be hiding behind those somewhat unsightly shells, but hopefully ASUS won't keep us wondering for long.

Tegra is your god

: )
Actually I quite love the shell, but it is a bit bezelicious for my tastes.
9700mgt + 3d display (switchable pl0x) ftw!
theapple @ Jun 9th 2008 7:27AM
does it play crisis?
k @ Jun 9th 2008 7:30AM
*crysis - get it right
David @ Jun 9th 2008 7:41AM
uh.. yes?
It should be able to handle all settings on medium at native, I expect.
David @ Jun 9th 2008 7:32AM
Where did all the comments go?!
Well anyway I'll restate myself: I love the case and the 9700m gt (same power as 8800m gts I believe) but I think its a bit bezelicious and would be even moreso with the 15.4" panel, which is a shame.

If this is a gaming laptop, then why does it have the god-aweful glidepoint? I want to see a detachable wireless optical mouse that clips into the chassis when not in use. Glidepoint is for noobs, not to mention it's a waste of space. I can think of lots of better things to put in that area.

@ Silvefrog:
"I can think of lots of better things to put in that area."
That's what she said!
seriously though you must hate all modern laptops.
it's hard to imagine somehow slotting a mouse into a laptop, but Asus do supply most of their medium - high end notebooks with optical mice, my ma bought a £500 Asus 2 years ago and she got a nice optical mouse with it, worked like a dream!

Who said anything about Glidepoint? ASUS uses Synaptic touchpads on all their models.
If you were using Glidepoint as a generic term for touchpad (a la Xerox, Kleenex), um... most people have never even heard of Glidepoint.
Silverfrog @ Jun 9th 2008 12:26PM
Yes, glidepoint is another word for touchpad, which is what I'm talking about.
xValentine @ Jun 9th 2008 9:56AM
I don't like that orange theme. :(
The M series is still what I'm aiming for.
Pfanne @ Jun 9th 2008 9:59AM

Semeoneor @ Jun 9th 2008 11:07AM

Looks like the OLED screen above the top left of the keyboard has at least doubled in size compared to their current offering in the G2s laptop.
bolezhinkov @ Jun 9th 2008 12:14PM
it looks awesome except for all the finger prints on it - my inner self is dying to wipe that thing down.

Last year ASUS according to their corporate website won
over 2500 awards...
"ASUS won 2,568 awards in 2007, meaning on average, the company received over 7 awards every day last year..."
...must mean something beside having a very big mantelpiece.
