Medion's Akoya Mini laptop gets pictured at Computex
The last time we saw this downsized Atom-based laptop, it was looking staid and proper in a press shot. Finally someone has gotten their hands on this thing, and we've got to say -- it looks pretty handsome (even if it is a rebadged, recolored MSI Wind, and a dead ringer for the Mini-Note). Specs seem unchanged, with a 10-inch 1024 x 800 display, 80GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, and a 1.3-megapixel webcam, and the price appears to be holding at €399 (or about $630) as well. Still no word on when or if this is going to hit the states, but we've got our fingers crossed.

Eh, Medion's notebooks are usually just rebadged MSI kit
OneLove @ Jun 9th 2008 11:19AM
I think you meant, "its a dead ringer for the Acer Aspire One"?
OneLove @ Jun 9th 2008 11:21AM
...sorry it is the MSI wind.
MeatPop @ Jun 9th 2008 11:11AM
Does the five-head come with it?
Anthony @ Jun 9th 2008 11:11AM
I hear Windows is the most popular platform in Vietnam.
(Unfortunately for Microsoft, it's all pirated.)
Jeebus @ Jun 9th 2008 12:15PM
Piracy helps MS, not hurt.
fred @ Jun 9th 2008 11:11AM
Hey if Vietnam likes it, then it has to be good!
Brainbug @ Jun 9th 2008 11:14AM
It's the MSI Wind guys...
CJ @ Jun 9th 2008 11:19AM
Mini-Note?
Wow, you Engadget guys are usually great at picking the clones.
And considering the fact that Medion pcs are made by MSI, I'm quite suprised that you didn't see this for what it was - a rebadged Wind NB.
Devron @ Jun 9th 2008 11:20AM
this looks exactly like the HP Mini Notebook (2133) -- at least from the inside.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Jun 9th 2008 11:23AM
You mean the resolution is 1024x600 right?
maveric101 @ Jun 9th 2008 11:38AM
yeah i dunno 1024x800 is strange
Za @ Jun 9th 2008 2:55PM
Because 1024x768 is 4:3, I would imagine this could not possibly 1024x800 - so it's either 1024x600 or 1280x800 - I imagine the former although the mininote is closer to the latter.

The box says: "It's better with Windows" so...
I'm pretty sure I'm not buying one.
We've already had enough M$ TAX for the past 10 years.
rock99rock @ Jun 9th 2008 11:30AM
WTF
is up with that head.
Benson @ Jun 12th 2008 1:05PM
What's up with your avatar's head?
omf @ Jun 9th 2008 11:33AM
Looks like they made use of all the Palm Foleo cases that were heading to the landfill.
rock99rock @ Jun 9th 2008 11:36AM
WHAT
is up with that freakishly large head.
Doc @ Jun 9th 2008 2:42PM
it's a poster in the background...
Michael LaFramboise @ Jun 9th 2008 11:37AM
Sigh... this is what the MacBook Air should've been. Currently its way too big to be an "ultra portable" as the name suggests. Oh yeah and the price isn't helping it much either...
Wrap this in Apple's goodness, make it all pretty and I'll be the first to buy it.
Za @ Jun 9th 2008 2:56PM
Are you kidding?
rock99rock @ Jun 9th 2008 11:37AM
srsly ENG. Comment edit/delete. plz.
Isomorphic @ Jun 9th 2008 12:17PM
Hmm, I have what you may call the 'Parent' of this laptop, the 15 inch version which is a great notebook, so I presume with everything shrunk down it's just as good
Rick @ Jun 9th 2008 12:28PM
Yeah, but I bet you can't use it to slice layer cake like they did with the AirBook.
d840 @ Jun 9th 2008 2:19PM
1) That pic of the MBA slicing bread was fake
2) I can cut a layer-cake WITH MY FOOT, so doing it with a laptop would not be very impressive.
d840 @ Jun 9th 2008 1:39PM
When I first saw the title and pic for this article, I hadn't scrolled down all the way, so I could only see about 1/4 of the picture. What I could see of the picture looked like a fingertip with an incredibly minuscule screen in front of it!
PS: freakishly large head appears to be a picture printed on the wall behind it, not someone who has escaped from ripley's believe it or not.
Matt @ Jun 15th 2008 12:35PM
But how can a wide screen display be 1024x800?
We all know 1024x768 makes a 4:3 screen.
