SanDisk acquires MusicGremlin, slips it in front pocket
Quite a bit of time has elapsed since we last saw fit to mention MusicGremlin on these pages, but the long-lost outfit has found itself relevant again thanks to SanDisk. Announced today, the latter firm has acquired the former, and we're told that the acquisition will (expectedly) fall under the Sansa audio / video business unit. According to Daniel Schreiber, general manager and senior VP of the aforesaid unit, MusicGremlin's "digital distribution platform and capabilities will provide SanDisk with adaptive and innovative technology that will play a key role in the development of future Sansa products for consumers," though he didn't elaborate much beyond that. To be frank, we have some serious respect for the Sansa line as-is, so we're quite interested to see what impact (if any) this will eventually have on the crew we've come to know so well.

Is anyone else getting tired of all of these PMPs? I got an iPOD like 2 years ago and I really have not seen any features on any of these that make me want one.

Well why don't they just ban all other PMPs and make it law that thou must own an iPod.
Personally I don't really like iPods and the article is actually about Sandisk buying Music Gremlin and not another PMP being launched, try reading the article first before you start splashing your apple juice about.

Amazing, a guy with a 2yo ipod that's not drooling for touchscreens/wifi/etcetera, I wonder if that's pleasing or shocking to apple management.

Just use RockBox with your Sansa players, cause the standard firmware sucks.
Wwhat @ Jun 10th 2008 12:49PM
That's an option, but you can't say the default sucks when the competition is creative, and if you hear what they make run their players you must admire the consistency of the user-unfriendliness of creative..
I hear their 'zen stone' and such doesn't allow you to select songs, only folders, I mean really.
nephersir7 @ Jun 10th 2008 5:08PM
still better than the ipod shuffle that doesnt let you select anything

Do Sansa PMPs still require windows for firmware upgrades? I showed Ubuntu to my dad a few years ago and now he refuses to use windows for anything. But, I really want him to have a PMP.
nephersir7 @ Jun 10th 2008 5:09PM
no, you dont need windows if you go on the anythingbutipod forums
