ASUS Eee PC 1000H already unboxed on video
Okay, so that was eerily fast. Merely two days after ASUS' Eee PC 1000H went on sale in Taiwan, the cats over at TweakTown managed to secure a unit and curb their excitement long enough to unbox the thing, snap some photographs along the way and even capture the experience on video. Here's a hint: it's an Eee PC, it has a 10-inch display, and it's leaving its original packaging. Video after the break.

This is new and interesting. Hey Engadget, there aren't enough iPhone stories on the front page, maybe you could add two or three more.
booticon @ Jun 13th 2008 11:42AM
Go away please.
Magickam @ Jun 13th 2008 11:47AM
Joe Blow is more than right.
Nemisys @ Jun 13th 2008 12:39PM
Very well said Joe.... but keep in mind the fanboys need their fix.
Nick @ Jun 13th 2008 2:26PM
Oh please, when there are alot of articles about Apple products you guys go like "Engadget is promoting Apple!!!11!" but when it's Asus it's alright. Come on that just doesn't make sense.
Mark @ Jun 13th 2008 3:46PM
So does the haters, they have nothing to complain if there are no ___ products and fanboys. What are they gonna nag about anymore. Its like a circle of life.
Product (ie. Apple) -- fanboys eat them -- haters nags to death about how many stories are posted about apple -- more comments keeps the site going (more site visits) -- then back to product posting again...
It is a vicious cycle.
happy_penguin @ Jun 13th 2008 5:48PM
If you want the iPhone to go away you should stop talking about it. :)
Joe Blow @ Jun 13th 2008 10:49PM
@happy_penguin
FFS, it's called sarcasm.
Making a reference at how Engadget thinks that we need an update on the new iPhone every 12 hours.
They do this all the time. Even with the EEE, "oh look a new color and spec upgrade, this is news worthy."
"Oh look, Samsung made a new TV that has nothing new or interesting, lets make an article"
Enough. If it's a slow news day, so be it. I rather have less updates if it means better content.

Tired_ @ Jun 13th 2008 12:26PM
No, it doesn't have FireWire.
Tony Rayo @ Jun 13th 2008 3:24PM
Sorry to bring the geekdom down on you Tired_, but IEEE does not equal firewire. IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (much like ISO or the International Organization for Standardization) which sets standards, such as the firewire standard aka "IEEE 1394".
Frun @ Jun 13th 2008 11:33AM
eeeeenough with the puns already.
Dubb @ Jun 13th 2008 2:53PM
I seee what you did there.
(Sorry, couldn't help myself.)
alienowl @ Jun 13th 2008 11:33AM
My excitement for this thing is gone. I'm looking forward to the Wind or maybe even the Dell.
Mike Cerm @ Jun 13th 2008 1:06PM
I think this thing looks awesome, and is a steal at $450! It's really a shame that they intend to charge almost double that.
Dubb @ Jun 13th 2008 2:55PM
Dell still has the tardshift on the right side of the keyboard. So it's either Wind or the HP 2133. I talked to a sales rep at HP's site, he said there were talks to bring the Atom or VIA Nano to the HP2133, either as a new model or upgrade to the existing model.
OneLove @ Jun 13th 2008 4:29PM
acer aspire one FTW!
pabarriu @ Jun 20th 2008 12:53PM
Or the Acer One for what matters....
rock99rock @ Jun 13th 2008 11:33AM

tfujstary @ Jun 13th 2008 11:34AM
but can it play crysis ?
K Nang @ Jun 13th 2008 12:19PM
no but it can play a game called "shut the hell up"
you ever tried it?
Flashpoint @ Jun 13th 2008 11:34AM
Problem with these netbooks is that a new one comes out damn near bi-monthly.
I'd feel safer just buying a regular laptop.
Graham McLeod @ Jun 13th 2008 11:37AM
Lol, don't you mean 'Eee'rily fast?
Si @ Jun 13th 2008 11:40AM
Wow, this guy is good.
"We've figured out the problem... We have to connect the AC adaptor."
Genius.
Pure genius.
Wonderkid @ Jun 13th 2008 11:43AM
Why all these pointless UNBOXING videos / galleries? Why can't Engadget engage in proper reviews? (And allow regular folk like us to provide our own reviews too?) For example, I have an original EEE PC 7" 4G Black and it's build quality, 3 USB ports (against the two on by MacBook), WiFi and compact design - all for £230, make it very useful. But a 10" machine defeats the object of a compact machine, so I don't see the point. 7" screen has got a bit annoying (sideways scrolling) so am going to consider the 901 - the Bluetooth will be good for syncing with my MacBook and Nokia N95 8G. I do think Asus have lost the edge though by not being innovative any more. Why not make a 9" ultra thin tablet version for a price as ground breaking as the original 7"? £295 ($500 US) would be perfect. Tablet form factor with a nice Linux note taking/sketching application would be fantastic for creative thinking and doodling.
ITRanger @ Jun 13th 2008 11:44AM
I don't like the shiny look, I would prefer the matt black look a la 701 style.
I nearly fell asleep waiting for Windows to boot up in his video ....
I definitely prefer Linux on these low end netbooks, but maybe the VIA Nano will change that.
fourthletter @ Jun 13th 2008 12:35PM
It was the first time Xp booted, it always takes ages to first time around.
Kaiser-Machead @ Jun 13th 2008 11:57AM
I think Asus is driving their Eee line into irrelevance at this point. Raising prices and marginal specs compared to other systems, it's totally forgetting the appeal that the original generated. With Dell's E system coming in at $299, and looking a heck of a lot better, with the MSI Wind coming in with better specs and still being cheaper, where the heck does that leave Asus?
Also, does anyone else see a a growing resemblance to the Sony TZ?
Mile @ Jun 13th 2008 1:33PM
We'll see. Originally I was told that the first EEE would be under $300.
d0od @ Jun 13th 2008 11:57AM
how fucking annoying is that dudes voice?!
VitalyTheUnknown @ Jun 13th 2008 11:58AM
WTF.I Heard with "ssd" Windows startup is very fast, I don't see
any improvement on EEE.
fourthletter @ Jun 13th 2008 12:39PM
Not to ruin the magic but it would have been nice if he'd opened it before hand and booted to get the config screen out of the way so we could see an actual normal boot time.
Looks nice but with the price of the Wind and Dell so good why bother.
ahdok @ Jun 13th 2008 11:58AM
Two whole days?
Man, I'd expect an unboxing video before the thing actually launched...
kris @ Jun 13th 2008 12:06PM
How quickly I've changed my position to "Don't care". Still, none of them are JUST what I want yet. The closest one IMO is the HP. However, it needs an Atom proc, 2gb ram, a 10" screen IN THE SAME FF. IT CAN BE DONE. If the speakers need to be a little smaller/moved, so be it!! I'm not going to be watching 1080P HD movies on it anyway, and neither is anyone else. Also, like 3.5-4 hour battery life. Basically, I have a dell 600m 1.5 ghz with 2gb ram. It zips along great for everything I throw at it (Office, non-hd video, surfing, downloading). . .....So if I could have something like that, it'd be a winner. By the way, that same 3 y/o 600m still does 1.5-2 hour battery life with wifi on...and isn't too incredibly cumbersome. So I'm not in any hurry. C'mon, HP. DO IT!!
EMaster @ Jun 13th 2008 12:10PM
Hmm I got a buddy going to Taiwan soon I'm thinking about having him pick me up one of these. The problem is, Will I be able to switch it over to English after or what?
Saffy @ Jun 13th 2008 12:15PM
Is this review from the future? I could swear he says "It's Friday, June 20th" at the beginning of the vid. Either he's somehow on the other side of the intergalactic week line, or he forgot to check his calendar this morning...
Howard @ Jun 13th 2008 12:17PM
"Eerily fast"? Taiwan is a 12-hour flight away...
What kind of black magic is this!
xxdesmus @ Jun 13th 2008 12:51PM
Is this with or without an Atom processor? The 10" is damn sexy!
dantagonist @ Jun 13th 2008 12:55PM
...did he say friday june 20th?
taylor g @ Jun 13th 2008 1:21PM
thats what i heard tooo.......
weird its from the future.........
if today is the 13th here /14th today in Taiwan then he wont buy this till next Friday.....
9 days after its released thats way to late for an unboxing
so i guess the he can travel through time
but cant plug in a new laptop
quag @ Jun 13th 2008 1:20PM
This thing looks like a big slice of ass-pie... check out all of the gaudy MS and Intel badges on the left side of the hand rest. Gee, thanks Asus for crapping all over an otherwise decent looking design.
smcallah @ Jun 13th 2008 3:47PM
Yeah, those stickers can't possibly be peeled off, it's ruined forever!
gizhola @ Jun 13th 2008 1:22PM
Screw the Eee PC 1000... I want the time machine they used to go into the future to do this video... he totally said Friday June 20th.
Mile @ Jun 13th 2008 1:35PM
They didn't go into the future. The video was FTP'd back to us in the past.
Chris @ Jun 13th 2008 1:45PM
they are overhyping this thing to try to increase the price. But lets face it. this is a cheap, light, low power laptop. for the same price you can get a 15 inch dell with a dual core proc. that will kick this things ass. I will never buy something as rediculously priced as this. $500 is pushing it for me. You're better off with one of the old $300 models IMO
oZ @ Jun 13th 2008 3:01PM
Yeah, but then you have a bulky 15" Dell. You are not the target market. Go away.
marcin @ Jun 13th 2008 1:53PM
hearing the guys voice was painful, especially him saying "Windows XP"
alexander ayzenband @ Jun 13th 2008 2:55PM
