but can it play crysis ?
Seth @ Jun 13th 2008 12:02PM
Red and Pink flames...
Red I can understand but PINK??!? seriously wtf
I always bought Toshiba laptops before and really liked them but the price is probably going to astronomical... and unless they've worked out some better cooling designs...
Anyone else bought an Acer Aspire 6920-6422? I've been running mine for 5-6 hours at a time and it doesn't get warm at all. And no I haven't tried Crysis.
Matthew Hilario @ Jun 13th 2008 12:04PM
you would be able to play crysis, and tab out to play doom on this thing.
Seth @ Jun 13th 2008 12:04PM
d@mnit - I meant to start a different post!
wizzle @ Jun 13th 2008 5:52PM
it certainly is flaming.
wickedpheonix @ Jun 13th 2008 11:51AM
is that supposed to be poetic or something? The same day as the iPhone 3G?
natels @ Jun 13th 2008 11:53AM
Isn't the release date the 11th for the iPhone, or are you just bringing up the iPhone to start a rukkus..?
Don @ Jun 13th 2008 12:29PM
shut up about that shit
Daniel @ Jun 13th 2008 11:51AM
I'm surprised the track pad is so far to the left, because your palm would always be resting in that part when you are playing FPS games.
Loun @ Jun 13th 2008 11:55AM
would you play FPS games with the track pad? I tried it and it didn't end well for me.
IT-Accountant @ Jun 13th 2008 12:19PM
I don't like the placement of the trackpad either, but the rationale behind it is that the trackpad is below the center of the keyboard so that your forearms don't touch it while typing.
quomen @ Jun 13th 2008 12:27PM
I actually like the trackpad placement, but it only works for right handers. Instead of drawing your arm back to use the trackpad, you can pivot your wrist. It might not seem like much, but it gets convenient after switching back/forth between the keyboard and trackapad. Also, when we type, our forearms approach the keyboard at an angle; they aren't parallel when they type (or they shouldn't be!). This probably would allow room for the trackpad.
ps. Most laptops touchpads have software that allows you to disable the trackpad when a mouse is connected.
natels @ Jun 13th 2008 11:55AM
Well it looks as if the disk drive is almost in the center of the laptop and putting pressure on that while spinning is probably not a good idea.. Also, if that's not the case, sometimes they move it for protection of other hardware, ie. hdd or something. Lastly, I don't think anyone games with a trackpad.
bk7 @ Jun 13th 2008 12:01PM
but surely your palm would still be resting on it, whether you're using it or not - and would that not interfere with the mouse control? or can you deactivate trackpads these days (i dont have a new laptop)
fish @ Jun 14th 2008 10:17PM
^ Yes you can deactivate most of them.
Aidan @ Jun 13th 2008 11:57AM
WOW~
eggothewaffle @ Jun 13th 2008 3:43PM
I know you're excited, but to answer your question, yes it can play World of Warcraft.
Aidan @ Jun 13th 2008 12:00PM
WOW
telepheedian @ Jun 13th 2008 1:29PM
The WOW starts now.
natels @ Jun 13th 2008 12:02PM
You can deactivate track pads when a mouse is connected on most if not all laptops now.
Seth @ Jun 13th 2008 12:09PM
Anyone else have a problem with the DVD drive on the front?
Loun @ Jun 13th 2008 12:11PM
no
Noah T @ Jun 13th 2008 12:15PM
The problem is, this is the Jason Voorhees model, so you can only play hack 'n slash games on it.
Chris2 @ Jun 13th 2008 12:15PM
Man you guys are lovingthat pic to day huh?

In other news, the DOD has discovered that if you unplug the fans then fire up crysis, the laptop doubles as air to surface nuke.
quomen @ Jun 13th 2008 12:21PM
Wow that thing is UGLY. Did Toshiba just give up on making good electronics after the death of HD-HVD. My biggest gripe here is the 17 inch 1680 x 1050 screen. Are you kidding me? 1920 x 1200 should be standard on all gaming computers w/ that screen size. Anybody looking to shell out fat cash for a gaming laptop should buy the Dell XPS 1730.
Stranger @ Jun 13th 2008 3:01PM
Why add more pixels than needed, it will only make it harder for the graphics card. I'm running a 17"@WSXGA+ right now and I'm more than happy with the number of pixels this screen pack.
I'm not saying that WUXGA is always overkill, I'm only saying that for a large part of the (gaming) population WUXGA is overkill and therefore a costly con..
larson0699 @ Jul 12th 2008 12:59AM
One, ugly is an opinion. Don't like it, you can a) Beg Toshiba to make an assortment of skins (common sense suggests not every X305 will look the same), b) Skin it yourself, or c) Don't buy one, shut up, and get that Dell you love so much.
Two, ONLY THE INTERNAL LCD is 1680x1050. The HDMI port (driven by GTX graphics *ahhh*) would be more than happy to serve up some 1080p at home... where the real entertainment is.
I, for three, will be buying this beast! Qosmio FTW
Matt @ Jun 13th 2008 12:23PM
Man... I didn't even realize it was Friday the 13th today. Oh, Engadget. What would I do without you :)
Gordon Page @ Jun 13th 2008 12:38PM
huh? doubt this is a prank, engadget can't afford to lose anymore credibility.
V Langs @ Jun 13th 2008 12:26PM
Damn yo, if i had to purchase a windows pc this would be it.
i personally like really small laptops (not eeepc small, and mba thin) but i always wanted a a 17incher to dominate video editing with.
and those specs are impressive, i don't play pc games but it surely would a great overall pc too
uShak @ Jun 13th 2008 11:16PM
Yea, same boat here dude
I got the ASUS G1S-X3 which is a 'gamer laptop' but i got it because its a great video editing machine (15.4" 1680x1050 display, HDMI out, T7500, 8600M)
It's kinda sad because you can find this laptop on ebay for under $1000 now, a sweeet sweeeet deal.
Gordon Page @ Jun 13th 2008 12:35PM
"dual hard drives"
hopefully those are in raid 0 for performance, otherwise lets take one of those out for power savings.
Chris2 @ Jun 13th 2008 12:48PM
Because its those damn hard drives that will suck up all the power in these things...
kal326 @ Jun 13th 2008 12:45PM
Dual 200GB 7200rpm drives, come one where are the dual 320GB 7200rpm or even 500GB drives? If they are going for a high end book lets go with a high book.
On a side note Engadget sure is fond of the guy in the hockey mask today.
brad @ Jun 13th 2008 1:11PM
"come one"??? oh... you meant "come one, come all" right?.. haha.. moron... i love people who post on here who A. Can't spell worth shit, and B. have the grammatical skills of a 3 year old... way to go guys!!! losers
kal326 @ Jun 13th 2008 1:31PM
@brad
Well thanks for your input brad, every posting needs an asshole and you have stepped up to fill the void. While we are on the topic of grammar, let’s talk about capitalization. So I take it your name is Brad, is that correct? Wouldn't a name be capitalized? Or maybe you stuck with the little b, because it fits in with your "little bitch" mentality. Not to mention my one single extra 'e' seems so bad in comparison to your complete lack of proper punctuation. How many question marks or periods at the end of a sentence? That would probably be more of a concern if your reply actually contained a complete sentence.
Anyway if Engadget or CNN can't be bothered to grammar check their postings, why should I?
crsh @ Jun 13th 2008 12:58PM
Could this thing be any uglier? Oops.. sorry, I probably jinxed it, HP is working on a response for sure.
Matt @ Jun 13th 2008 1:03PM
yeah, just check out the new gateways... they're clad in orange trim.
raging_hamsterx @ Jun 13th 2008 3:54PM
the new gateways look amazing. I have one... best gaming laptop for under 1500 bones
crsh @ Jun 13th 2008 1:07PM
Is there such a thing as 2.5" 500 GB SATA drive yet? Not being cheeky, I just haven't seen any.
Edward Bixler @ Jun 13th 2008 1:12PM
Too bad it's a Toshiba. I have had my Toshiba G35-AV660 for just about a year and a half now and the motherboard has failed four times now. It is currently at the repair shop now and has been there since May 7th. Toshiba has the shittiest quality.
Bottom line: NEVER BUY TOSHIBA!
michas_pi @ Jun 13th 2008 1:22PM
I don't know what to tell you; I've purchased Toshiba laptops all my life and never had a single problem.
happy_penguin @ Jun 13th 2008 5:38PM
I've owned three Toshiba notebook computers and they have all been quite good.
neofolklore @ Jun 13th 2008 1:20PM
Whats up with Jason
mmendoza27 @ Jun 13th 2008 2:38PM
Joshua is putting Jason in all of his articles today. Seems like a lot of people don't know who the "guy in the hockey mask" is...
Just Wiki "Friday the 13th", they are a horror series, and today is Friday the 13th. I actually think it's smart and funny to see Jason in all these technology pics. Good job Josh, good job.
bolezhinkov @ Jun 13th 2008 1:21PM
so word on price yet
Green @ Jun 13th 2008 3:32PM
Word.
Ken @ Jun 13th 2008 2:07PM
so0o0o what kind of graphics is this thing packing? "1GB GTX" is kinda vague and could lead one to assumption.
Ahmed Alzayani @ Jun 13th 2008 2:14PM
no 1920x1200?
