Dell's new E-Series gets first official mention
At this point, there's very little you don't know about Dell's upcoming Latitude E-series of laptops thanks to our Week O' Dell Scoops. Only the official pricing and launch dates for these DisplayPort, eSATA, and Centrino 2 D-series laptop replacements (and new XT2 Convertible) have eluded us. While we expected the Mainstream and Essential Es to hit this month, we suspect Intel had a little something to do with that delay. However, by making a somewhat official appearance on Dell's website, we're guessing that we'll see an announcement before mid-July or the first week of August at the latest.

Good to see these are on their way. I wanna see what the prices are like, right now I am debating between one of these and an MSI Wind. Obviously the Wind will be cheaper, but if I can get one of these for just a bit more I'd be all over it.

mmm, as mentionned in the summary, this is the E series of Latitude laptops, the one that will replace the actual D series (e.g. D830).
Nothing to do with netbook/eee-like pc

Yeah... You must be talking about the Dell E's or the E Slim...
mostlyharmless22 @ Jul 1st 2008 9:11AM
These are not the small form factor E's or Mini Inspirons. These are all 15+" displays.

Is there any news about when Dell will be coming out with P-45 chipset based desktops (Inspiron/XPS)?
Jono @ Jun 29th 2008 9:13AM
Well, either they're changing the name of the product line to "Laitude" (note the missing "t"), or Dell's website editing staff were on lunch break when someone put that one up.
I'm going with the latter.

When does Dell's fiscal year roll over? I'm sure they're waiting for the new one to start before they unleash these puppies.

Not to start anything, but isn't that a Mac wallpaper/splash page on there?
Quikboy @ Jun 29th 2008 5:09PM
I'm not sure, but I've had this Dell computer for 2+ years already, and there's a background exactly like that included. It could be a Windows XP wallpaper, but I'm not sure.
Lots of wallpapers look similar. Maybe OS X has a Dell wallpaper on their computer. :^)

The time line posted in Engadet for the E-Latitudes was:
http://www.engadget.com/photos/dells-latitude-e-series-roadmap-revealed/710234/
It looks like things have slipped a little.
Dell's latest SEC 10-Q/A and 10-Q are for 1st quarter FY2009 which ended May 2, 2008 and are here:
http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/corporate/sec/Q110QAFY09pdf.pdf
http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/corporate/sec/Q110QFY09pdf.pdf
So the 2nd quarter FY 2009 ends on or about August 2, 2008.

The delay in the release of these is intel's fault, not dells.
The montevina based CPU's going into these things where meant to be released mid june, they are now pegged for july 15th
If dell is serious about these machines, i would like to see them out within a week of the 15th july
Rick @ Jun 30th 2008 7:43AM
I was responding to Ralph's question about Dell's fiscal year/ I know it is not Dell's fault, the FCC is the actuall culprit.
Ten @ Jun 29th 2008 9:43PM
judging by the deals being offered on the D series latitudes at the moment, i would say they are trying to clear stock of the D series. like they did with the inspiron 1520 and 1720 for the studio release.
Thats the best indicator about when the systems are due.
PS: does anyone know if these will be released in AUS at the same time? I know the studio laptops were, so am i correct in assuming the same for hte latitudes.

What do you think the base price for an E4200 will be?
