Lenovo's Olympics infatuation continues with themed Ideapad U8 MID
Alright Lenovo, we get that you have a ridiculous obsession with Beijing and / or the 2008 Olympics, but seriously, enough is enough. We've got desktops, laptops, USB drives and even torches to show your unending love for the Games; the last thing we need is a questionably useful MID all dressed up in game day attire. Nevertheless, the company's Ideapad U8 MID has been spotted recently with a colorful motif to commemorate the upcoming spectacle, but aside from the new design, we're assuming everything else is just bronze-medal worthy (read: the same as the non-decorated version).

initialxy @ Jun 30th 2008 2:17PM

Rick @ Jun 30th 2008 2:19PM
scratch off the olympic rings and it becomes a gay pride phone, complete with silhouettes of prancing men...

If you look closely at the figures on the design, it looks like the third character shot the fourth in the head and the bullet's on it's way to hit the ball in the fifth character's hand. Yuck!

Haha it does look like that. Morbid thoughts over at Lenovo? Reminds me of all those hidden inappropriate parts in the old disney movies.
rayinjersey @ Jun 30th 2008 11:01PM
LOL, that's what I thought when I saw the picture too except it looked like the third guy and the fifth guy are torturing the fourth guy by passing the bullet back and forth (looks like the fifth guy is going to smack it with a racket!).

I don't really see what the target audience of this phone is...I don't know many people who'd be interested in buying it. What's the point of producing a phone only a couple hundred people might buy?
luke @ Jun 30th 2008 2:46PM
there are 1.3billion people going ape s*!t for the olympics in their home country. That is their target audience
thedesolate1 @ Jun 30th 2008 2:43PM
For a moment there I thought it was a Gay Pride edition MiD. Well the parade was yesterday in nyc so I figured they released this in the spirits of the parade.

Why is it news that you secured a shot of the phone that was already shown in the original posting's video?
The thing is ugly, has no focal target audience, and probably won't ever make it overseas. Next!!!!
rayinjersey @ Jun 30th 2008 11:02PM
I thought it looked familiar.....

I will buy this device if it will eventually be sold in the US market and be reasonably priced. I have 2 Thinkpads at home, and I think Lenovo make very solid products. This would be a great gadget for me.....and hopefully a nice upgrade to my iPod Touch......also I like the fact that it is running Linux.
