Software update brings video recording and more to Sony's COM-2 mylo
Sony hasn't forgotten about you loyal mylo 2 (er, COM-2 mylo) owners just yet, as a recently rolled out software update provides a nice list of extras for those who care. Revision 1.201, which is only available for the latest of mylos, adds support for video recording, provides a new menu for "easier photo and video uploading," adds a function for formatting Memory Stick Duo media, adds support for 16GB MD Duo cards and improves Flash playback of YouTube videos. The upgrade also adds support for WMV files and the SHOUTcast widget while improving "system stability." The download is slightly hefty at just under 60MB, so head on down and get the new stuff headed your way.

Does anyone even know or seen anyone that owns one of these?
Several years ago, I was in Vegas and went to a Sony store and saw one.

When I was in training for BBYM, it's one of the devices they gave us to look at, along with a couple other phones. And the battery was dead, so we just looked at a hunk of plastc. I wasn't sure why, since we only carry it online and I've never had anyone ask about it, and since it isn't a phone.
DefPo3t @ Jun 30th 2008 8:57AM
Dear Sony,
Make it a damn phone already
dcny @ Jun 30th 2008 9:31AM
No kidding, add a phone to this , go ahead and throw in games by memory stick or download and you got a psp phone

The department that made this should have been fired for making this thing without phone built-in.
This wouldve destroyed the sidekick, and similar form factors if it did with its screen, keyboard, video support, and etc.
Dammit Sony.....always one step forward... and two steps back...

Seriously.
@ Dan
YES
This would be the best thing on the market, and definitely give apple and sidekick a scare
thedesolate1 @ Jun 30th 2008 10:33AM
If Wimax was fully rolled out and this had the spec sheet to support it then perhaps this would of been a good idea for a VOIP phone... but other than that they are aiming for a very niche market, considering the ubiquity of smart phones. Oh and if they truly were trying to compete against the sidekick (the mylo is a way better device) they should of added GSM.
absurdio @ Jun 30th 2008 12:52PM
Actually, I assumed this thing WAS a phone. My thought was "oh. wow. that's a sleek looking phone! and with a keypad! hot damn!"
....whoops.
tekdroid @ Jun 30th 2008 1:01PM
they did :)

I'd be totally uninterested if it was a phone. I personally can't stand talking on any smartphones because they're huge. I'd rather keep my tiny Samsung A727 for a phone (which I always have pocketed) and have a separate device like this or a Nokia 880 that I can keep in my bag if I'm going to "need" internet access when I'm out somewhere - working on something at a coffee shop and need to have access to research materials but don't necessarily want to haul around the laptop, for instance. I know I'm in the minority here, but there are those of us who don't want a big fat phone when the part that makes it big and fat isn't necessary on a day-to-day basis.

No announcement on Diablo 3?

Since when is Diablo III a gadget?

I don't own a Mylo, but it still is nice to see Sony giving it big updates despite how many units are actually off the shelves.
rock99rock @ Jun 30th 2008 9:52AM
I was gonna say, it'd be funny to see how many of these are actually out in the world.
walkerofsky @ Jun 30th 2008 10:57AM
At awaited 4.0 psp gets nothing...
...but at 1.201 Sony gives the Mylo this...
C.J. @ Jun 30th 2008 11:22AM
Well, I have one , Mylo2 ... so no zero anymore ...
cswallow01 @ Jun 30th 2008 11:31AM
I own a Mylo 1 and 2...
I'm still waiting for Location Free streaming support (if it is ever coming)...
I've been in touch with Sony Vice President Of Corporate Communications Rick Clancy and he has forwarded my Location Free idea to the Mylo team, so hopefully we'll see something someday...

not that i particularly enjoy carrying around multiple devices, but if the price was right i could see myself buying this. i mean if i could snag one for 50-100 bucks why not? it reminds me of a nokia n810 tablet.
also, does anyone know if it has bluetooth? cuz then you could tether it to ur mobile phone and i heard it has a pretty decent web browser
just a thought eh?
ScooterDe @ Jun 30th 2008 2:37PM
I'd love to pick one up, at a lower price, for my kids who can do what they do (chat, video, music, surf) without having to worry about them spending large on mobile telephone fees. Aside from the price, I fear it is very limited by needing accessible wifi hotspots which are actually getting harder to find. Home and school are okay, but obviously not in the park.
t3hsteve @ Jun 30th 2008 12:56PM
whats comparable to this in the same price and NOT and apple product)?
t3hsteve @ Jun 30th 2008 1:06PM
possibly want
t3hsteve @ Jun 30th 2008 1:06PM
how is browsing the internets on this device
King Mustard @ Jun 30th 2008 2:56PM
What actually IS the Mylo?

A 'personal communicator' that connects over wifi, allowing you to make internet phone calls, webchat, take photos, listen to music, watch videos, surf the web and generally stuff around on, primarily aimed more at the youth market, it seems.
