Voodoo now accepting Envy 133 phone orders
Alright, it's finally here -- Voodoo's configuration page for the Envy 133 just went live with pricing information, and we're being told that orders are being accepted over the phone. Depending on options and paint jobs, you're going to put a dent in your wallet anywhere from $2100 to $3400, but it's still not clear exactly when units will be shipping out. Anyone taking the plunge?

First!!!!
Sorry. That was on my bucket list. :)
your what list?
Negging you was on mine.
I envy you
@kjb434
was that necessary? If I wanted childish political commentary with tech news I'd visit Ann Coulter's Consumer Guide.
thanks, kjb434, for veering way off to make sure everyone sees your worthless political opinion.
no one cares.
@prestor john, jeff
Uh, you guys grill kjb434 for voicing politics in a comment, but you make no mention of the guy with the FUCKING OBAMA AVATAR. He's pushing his bullshit on everyone EVERY TIME HE COMMENTS.
Let's make sure we're not forgetting that.
qq
and what are you "pushing"? your fanboyism of bubble bobble dinosaurs?
kjb434 clearly makes an uncalled for insult.
Now that you've filled you bucket, what will you do with the rest of your life?
@alex
Bubble Bobble?
"You're obviously not a golfer."
Intel Graphics Card ....? That sucks.
2 Questions and a comment.
#1 CAN IT PLAY CRYSIS?
#2 does it come with White gloves?
and MACBOOK AIR doesn't come in Carbon Fiber.
"80G HDD 4200RPM"
LOL
Take the plunge .... the plunge right into SUCK
I would like to ammend that.... your only options are
80G HDD 4200RPM
or
64GB Solid State drive
which costs (3,099 - 2,349) = $750
expensive suck
No kidding. Weak hard drive options, 13" screen at 1280x800, max 2GB of RAM, a 3 cell 33Whr battery... fail. Wait, epic fail.
I actually kind of like 1280x800 screens. Displays 720p perfectly, and that's about the most important thing I would do that needs a specific resolution on a laptop.
@John
Are you kidding????
I bought my laptop custom built from local dealer a YEAR AGO for $1,800 and I got a 1680 x 1050 screen...
I can't imagine dealing with 1280 x 800, unless it was a budget or ultraportable.
Whats the number?
To the people commenting on the specs of this; I think the general idea is that other people see this machine and feel envy, not for you yourself to actually use it for anything else than just...owning it.
Sort of like other expensive laptops designed for coffee-shop use (:
Yeah, the specs kind of suck but that is much more visually appealing than the Macbook Air in my opinion. But then I've always felt that Apple's style is too soft, if that makes any sense. This seems much more bold and impressive.
iofthestorm: I doubt you've even seen or used either one in real life.. Making your opinion worthless.

And no, I didn't intend for this to appear twice *sigh*
The ability to delete a redundant comment would be too much to ask for, I suppose...
We don't need an explanation to know what happened. Stop blaming engadget for your itchy trigger finger.
I didn't blame engadget, now did I? (;
The fault was entirely my own, as my browser didn't reload the page properly after posting, and instead of doing that myself, I clicked back and clicked post again.
Does it matter? It'd still be way cool to be able to delete it.
Actually, it may be engadget's fault and not your browser reloading incorrectly, because I've noticed a lot recently that comments I post don't show up right away and I double posted a couple times because of that.
On the contrary, it's your fault if you go back and repost because it doesn't show up; in my experience, engadget always gets it, and usually within 15 minutes.
Patience is a virtue!
$600 just to change the color, wtf?
Sorry, I prefer not to wear gloves while using my laptop.
Alright, specs aside, it's nice to see someone else focusing on aesthetics other than Apple... good counterpoint too, to the neutrality of the Powerbook. I Like the way it looks, but don't care to find out how it performs - A cold round of performance disappointment (pretty much a guarantee) will sour how good-looking it is.
Oh Voodoo, it always will be what's inside that counts.
Talk about how the Macbook Air is expansive! Look at this!
They want $500-$600 for a different color other than black.
And people complain about the $150 price difference with the black MB!
I rather get an air than this!! Especially with the SSD & CPU price drop ($500) in the Air.
I don't think anyone would call the macbook air expansive, but very few notebooks are. Desktop PCs, however, are quite expansive: you can add RAM, a better CPU, a better graphics card, easily find better optical drives... plus desktops aren't very expensive either. :)
the new alienware m15 x i just ordered blows this out of the water.
oh yeah- it cost lessthan 2600 dollars ftw
E-Penis bragging FTL.
sure, its better for gaming/process intensive tasks, I actually got an mx15, but returned it due to overheating/chasis/ cant deal with that stuff in college problems, and am going the complete opposite way and getting this, and bringing the desktop to college for gaming
I was on the list to be able to make the purchase. Think I'm going with a macbook instead. Can't wait to see the dismal benchmarks though.
I was very tempted by this Envy but the price is a bit steep for my bankroll... I eventually just ordered one of the 15" Dell Studio line PCs. The poor mans envy :)
Just ordered the 1.8 / SSD config. Not such a fan of the non-optional Office bundle, but it's so sexy, it's hard to resist.
I was just going to call and see if you had to get one of the 9 configurations listed or could remove the MS Office which adds cost for software I don't need. Utterly stupid configuration decision on Voodoo's part.
I tried; you have to buy with Office bundled.
So twice as expensive as a high-end gaming desktop. No thanks.
I'd settle for a nice, small, cheap, touchscreen umpc or mini-laptop.... and save real money for real gaming on a real desktop.
Looks like a fingerprint magnet too.
Totally agree. I'd love a small, ultra portable, high battery life laptop but it would HAVE to be very inexpensive to be worth it. My primary laptop is a $3000+ MacBook Pro and the idea of having a sub $500 laptop to travel with and not worry about breaking/losing/theft is very tempting.
Why can't it look good AND not suck?
As for the color option being so much more expensive, I can understand that. They probably got a hell of a deal on the standard color case based on an expected volume order. Either that or they're banking on vanity trumping pocketbook (which given the specs they're already doing a bit of, heh) to make some extra cash.
So is there a legit reason why the specs are so bad given the price? Is it all about the size?
At the end of the day this is a fashion item. A Vertu of laptops.
It has some neat features (cf, wifi, etc), but will be easily outperformed by your average $900 14 inch HP with a Turion x64 and 4 gb of ram (saw one at Costco today).... with change left for at least 2 fill ups :p
The bundled office is a deal breaker. They know you'll pay extra for faster hardware so they bundle it with Office whether you need it or not just to increase their margin on the hardware. That pisses me off. Next...
The standard color is black carbon fiber weave you retards. Changing the color means actually painting over the carbon fiber surface. The standard non-painted black carbon fiber looks amazing enough as it is. Painting a laptop that small with auto-quality non-oil based paint while keeping it cooled properly and without jacking up the assembly on it is probably worth more than the 500 dollar premium.
I'll be ordering one of these, but not right away. It sounds like they might offer a 2GHz next month. I don't mind paying more for something thin (long story short, my home laptop runs windows ME, is almost 2" thick, and weighs a friggin' ton) and when you break down the specifics of the Envy vs. MBA I would gladly pay a couple hundred extra for the Envy over MBA.
To the posters saying you must order it with Office, the Voodoo forums say they have an Office free version.
Also, to the comments about the paint options...yeah, it sucks colors cost this much, but it isn't a cheap plastic case where they can snap in a different color. The case is carbon fiber and they actually have to paint over it for other colors.
Plus, people can't "Envy" it if it was affordable. ;)
I must agree. Also if any of you have ever looked at Voodoo PCS before their paint is always expensive I'm not sure if it is on this but I know sometimes its done by hand... I would definitely wait for better specs though as this is kinda pathetic... That being said amazing case, who doesn't love carbon fiber? Prob run the thing over with my car and wouldn't hurt it... about time.
