Samsung unveils Aura and Eclipse Montevina-based laptops
Montevina-based laptops are slowly but surely starting to trickle out, and Samsung's the latest to joint the party with a new Aura machine and the entirely new Eclipse line. The new R510 Aura sports a 15.4-inch screen, 2.53GHz T9400 Core 2 Duo on Montevina's 1066MHz bus with integrated X4500 graphics, 4GB of RAM, a dual-layer burner and a 320GB drive in a five-pound package, while the new Eclipse R710 17-inch desktop replacement sports a 2.53GHz P9500 Core 2 Duo and 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphics in a new case design with colorful accents. Rounding out the Eclipse line are the 12.1-inch Q210 and 13.3-inch Q310 (pictured), which are being billed as ultraportables. Both feature NVIDIA 256MB GeForce 9200M GS, 4GB of RAM, 320GB drives, and dual-layer burners in the new Eclipse case design, but the Q210 makes do with a 2.26GHz P8400 Core 2 Duo, while the larger Q310 gets a 2.4GHz chip. No pricing information is available yet, but scroll past the break for pictures of the other machines.

awsome specs but i bet it's €€€!

I wouldn't think so. Samsung's laptops cost considerably less than they used to. Their current highest end model costs about $1700 and most models can be had for about $1400 or less, whereas most of their laptops used to cost over $2000.

So Montevina is the new Centrino?
Striker @ Jul 8th 2008 2:18PM
It is a new Centrino chipset, the last chipset was Santa Rosa, and it was refreshed halfway through its lifetime. Montevina is the chipset that will be called Centrino 2.

I think we can expect a Clak/Ocean attack anytime now.
Minilap @ Jul 8th 2008 2:18PM
But you are getting annoying like them too.

I like how the laptop with a touch of red comes with a blu-ray player.

"The new R510 Aura sports a 15.4-inch screen, 2.53GHz T9400 Core 2 Duo on Montevina's 1066MHz bus"
Aren't Montevina laptops using "P series" CPUs?
groggle @ Jul 8th 2008 3:27PM
It would go with my touch of red 52" Samsung LED monitor quite nicely!
Doug_Parks @ Jul 8th 2008 4:58PM
LCD, not LED. Samsung does not have an LED TOC Display out yet.
On a side note, I own the 52A750 and it is beautiful :)

Nice machine's there. Do Samsung laptops find their way to U.S. retailers?
Chris @ Jul 8th 2008 2:51PM
It looks like they tried to move their "Touch of Color" TVs and Monitors into laptops, I just wish the red extended around the screen and the back of it.
Danny@HKSweden @ Jul 8th 2008 2:56PM
it seems like T200/T220 monitor style from samsung :P

Many PC's have made me drool over the past decade, but when I hear names like Gateway, or Samsung in the PC dept., I shy away. Focus on HDTV instead...

I have to say.... I have just been working in Asia (Japan) for the last months. I worked alongside some Koreans too. (Ex - Samsung employees), who had Samsung laptops. And wow !! they are really nice laptops.
Of course they can't possibly run OSX though.

13.3" display, 1.5" thick, and 4 pounds?
That's not what I'd call ultraportable.
iofthestorm @ Jul 8th 2008 6:11PM
More portable than the average 15" 6lbs though...
husky_1 @ Jul 8th 2008 5:05PM
well in Europe, Italy, Eclipse R710 (and 560) cost 1199 euro, R510 starts from 599-699 euros and the "subnotebook" Q210 799 and Q310 899 euro
DewtheDew117 @ Jul 8th 2008 5:03PM
i might actually think about strongly considering buying one of these
ugg.tryptophan @ Jul 8th 2008 8:55PM
does anyone else see old dell inspiron in the design?
Mark @ Jul 9th 2008 12:39AM
I don't really like the new design direction they've taken. I prefer the design of their older models (the ones done in silver and black) which were actually thinner and lighter than these new Aura laptops. They were more durable too with the magnesium casing. Their latest laptops are all plastic which not only makes them less sturdy, but feel cheaper too.
rjtechnology @ Jul 9th 2008 1:09AM
These new laptops make the current MB and MBP offering from Apple look under powered and way over priced.
Discosis @ Jul 9th 2008 1:15AM
I had a Samsung X50, it was a great laptop for its time.
Samsung seems to go through periods of not updating their laptops though ... they'll release awesome models and then do nothing, so their top specced lappies fall behind the rest of the pack.
Happy with my m1330 now.

Will these notebooks be coming to the United States? When? The US Samsung website doesn't acknowledge their existence.
