Eee PC 901, 904, and 1000 get UK pricing
We still think ASUS should cut the number of available Eee laptops down to something a little more reasonable, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon -- the company just made with UK pricing on the 901, 904, and 1000. The Atom-based 901 will come in at £299 ($592), while the slower 904 (which is essentially a 900 in the 1000's body) will set you back £269 ($533). The Atom-based 10-inch 1000 itself will run £349 ($691) for an 80GB hard drive version or £369 ($731) for a 40GB SSD edition. We'd say the sweet spot here remains the 901 if you can handle the smaller keyboard, but it's not like you're hurting for netbook options.

The 901 is already out here......
Ebuyer have them in stock at a similar price to that.
PeteC @ Jul 10th 2008 4:59AM
Cheers for the heads up on ebuyer finally having them in. Unfortunately they only seem to have the XP version of the 901 in-stock unless I'm otherwise mistaken and I'm after the linux one.

I hate comment delays.....

Just to clarify- is it really 80/40 GB? It says Gb, which makes it gigaBITS, not gigaBYTES.
Forrest @ Jul 9th 2008 5:19PM
Now that I think about it, how is this much different from Dell or HP offering tons of options on their laptops?
ASUS is just slapping a number on each of their configurations. How exactly is having options a bad thing? Would having one or two models really drop the price that much?
Good_Bytes @ Jul 9th 2008 5:25PM
the 10inch model has the same resolution as the 8.9....hmmm
Rohan @ Jul 9th 2008 5:32PM
That's a really interesting point.
It makes the increased screen size irrelevant for usability, and only important for vision.
Resolution staying consistent, I actually I like smaller screens.
Rohan @ Jul 9th 2008 5:28PM
Ok - silly question perhaps.
For the same price on the 901, you can either get:
12gb HD with Windows XP
20gb HD with Linux
Obviously the larger hard drive cost is offset by the lower (or non existent) cost of licensing Linux instead of XP, and vice versa.
So - wouldn't everyone just buy the Linux version, get the larger HD, and install their own XP? (assuming they want XP, and assuming many people have a copy sitting around somewhere).

Asus seem to have dropped the ball as the prices go up and up, not much different from a fullsize laptop.
DiGiC @ Jul 9th 2008 5:54PM
hmmm, 1000H FTW @ £350
LondonConsultant @ Jul 9th 2008 6:08PM
What's happened to the 903? I thought it was going to be a 901 in a 900 case...
Nick K. @ Jul 9th 2008 6:08PM
It's not the screen size, it's the pixel density.
mac @ Jul 9th 2008 6:46PM
Is it just me, or was one of these supposed to be WWAN/WiMax compatible?
Pochi @ Jul 9th 2008 6:51PM
I wish the 10" model came with a smaller hard drive option. That's obviously what drives the price so high. I wouldn't mind all the Eee 901 specs in the 1000 shell.
monkeyleader @ Jul 9th 2008 6:56PM
Prices Prices Prices, but when are we going to see the release dates !
Khattab @ Jul 9th 2008 7:42PM
The 1000 is way too expensive. What happened Asus? Got to greedy at last? MSI's Wind is way cheaper by delivering the exact specs.
Endeavour @ Jul 9th 2008 8:05PM
MSI Wind comes with a 3-cell battery (2:15h battery life with 50% brightness, CPU clocked down and WiFi on, according to TrustedReviews)
Khattab @ Jul 9th 2008 8:42PM
Indeed. Wasn't the 6-cell Battery already confirmed? But maybe my mind's playin' tricks on me. Thx anyway for the Info, Bro.
Endeavour @ Jul 9th 2008 8:57PM
The 6-cell battery will be available in September :(
zorg @ Jul 9th 2008 7:44PM
This table has at least one wildly inaccurate number, the width of the 901 is not 125.5 mm, but more like 175.5 mm. I lack the patience to check the other numbers, but do hope that the price doesn't turn out to be 799 instead of 299.

Has nobody else noticed that to have it with Linux and a 40GB HD is £20 MORE than with XP and an 80GB HD.
M$ have clearly got their claws in to push people back to wwindows and stem the exodus to Linux in the UMPC market.
craddster @ Jul 10th 2008 11:03AM
Okay, I overlooked the SSD/HDD thing but M$ arestill virtually giving away XP to keep themselves in the market.
