Elonex unveils £129 One T netbook
The first Elonex One was an oddly-configured little beast, with the guts of the machine tucked behind the display for an unwieldy, top-heavy look that was only acceptable given the £100 ($199) pricetag and pseudo-tablet functionality it offered. That doesn't mean Elonex isn't after the rest of the netbook market, though -- it's just introduced the Elonex One T, which has a much more traditional form-factor and comes in a variety of colors, but retains the bargain basement price of £129 ($255). Of course, that means you're getting an unspecified 400MHz processor and a 7-inch, 800 x 480 display that's sure to be fairly mediocre, but for just over a hundred quid, just be happy this thing doesn't look still look like it fell out of 1983.

BigD145 @ Jul 9th 2008 10:22PM
You just said the N word. Damn you. Stop it.
Minilap @ Jul 9th 2008 11:31PM
It's a Minilap, not a netbook.

Seems we are seeing more and more XMB type graphics on electronics these days.
BigD145 @ Jul 9th 2008 10:21PM
I'm guessing it'll hold Windows 2k and not much else with it's staggering huge 1GB of onboard memory (not RAM).
andres @ Jul 9th 2008 10:22PM
not as gay as you apparently
(note to actual gay's, i mean no offence)
jason @ Jul 9th 2008 10:23PM
top heavy? the OLPC is top heavy as hell.
ahh.. what ever happened to them?
the one i used crashed every 10 min, took 3 min to launch applications and was pretty much useless.
i was sad to see kids get computers that ran so crappy.

Minilap @ Jul 9th 2008 11:34PM
Too many to choose? Switch to Mac.
ddub @ Jul 9th 2008 11:47PM
I never realiZEd how many words got switched with se for ce and vice-versa until I started reading engadget often. I think Webster must have been like, Fuck the British I'm changing every single word that ends with -se to end in -ce. And to further show my disgust for the British I'm going to change every word that ends in -ce to end in -se. Meh, that'll show them.
caleb @ Jul 9th 2008 11:58PM
I don't know why I'm the only one, but the EEPC price increases killed it I think. This isn't so bad.
andres @ Jul 10th 2008 12:00AM

1.Don't dream: it's not gonna be £129! It will be £179 for the Onet and £199 for the Onet+. If you have ordered an Elonex One, you will be able to access the Onet's page on the Elonex website and confirm that.
2. Again if you were properly informed, you'd know it exists not just in green but also in black, silver and white.
3. Stop trying to compare it to the eee PC, it's not the idea. And stop moaning about it's power and abilities: it's an under £200 laptop. There are £1200 Alienware laptops out there for those after power. Please keep your comments relevant...

When I ordered both of mine this morning, it um...didn't come in silver, but in Pink instead, which I ordered - along with the white one. All versions apart from the white, have a silver face to the keyboard. The white one has a matching white face.
I ordered both white and pink.
Just so you're properly informed /wink

When I ordered mine yesterday afternoon, it came in black, white, silver and green. No mention of pink. One of mine is in silver, because you put the doubt in me I double-checked my order receipt: I am getting a silver one. Are we talking about the same thing? Have they painted the silver ones in pink overnight?... ;-)
thekanester @ Jul 10th 2008 3:53PM
fred
The original one comes in silver, but the onet does not. Here's a link to the onet gallery page:
http://www.elonexone.co.uk/onet.html
So your receipt might still be quoting the colour of your original order before upgrade. I await with interest to see the outcome of this one, I mean...it's not like any of us are going to get them anyways... ;}

Just to educate you people this practically the same notebook as the RazorBook minus the 4GB SDD and 512MB ram.
tanooki2003 @ Jul 10th 2008 10:00AM
It has a 400MHz Ingenic MIPS CPU. Basically this is an oversized PDA that can run either Linux or Windows CE 5.x.
You can consider this a modern Jornada 820, Compaq Aero 8000, NEC MobilPro 880, or Clio C-1050.

It is refreshing to see a netbook that is finally heading back in the direction that we expected netbooks to go back in. Sub 1Ghz processors in the low price range arena.
I want to see more of these.
