Neuros-powered WhereverTV brings international channels to your TV
Not only is this thing powered by Neuros, it even resembles the Neuros OSD. Announced today at the SINO Consumer Electronics Show, the brashly named WhereverTV acts as a liaison between your internet-connected PC and TV, delivering "hundreds of live international television channels in more than 40 languages from almost 100 countries around the world." The 5- x 5- x 1-inch box must be simultaneously connected to your router and TV, and once the tele is flipped on, you'll be able to browse, manage and stream scads of international TV channels from wherever you are in the world. Granted, we still prefer the flexibility of the ZvBox (which allows you to tap into all facets of internet video, not just one segment), but for just $199.99 with no activation or recurring charges (available now at Amazon), this could be just the thing for foreign television junkies or folks currently living outside of their homeland.

...and here I am Blocking all the Non-English Channels that are force fed to me by Time Warner.
You do know about those other English speaking countries, right? Especially that island off the coast of continental Europe. I hear they have quite a lot of interesting channels.
Andrew,
Seeing as how he's blocking only NON-English channels, he probaby get those... Enjoy your home theatre and that off-colour British humour..
I wonder if this can be used to just replace a current cable provider completely?
I'm wondering the same thing. Where is it getting the signals from? The internets?
Wow, you really read that article up and down didn't you?
If you thought about it lowranked, if there was a resource that had all of the chanels in one place we could bookmark them and bypass this thing by just going through the bookmarks list.
but oneliners get highly ranked so you go guy.
"must be simultaneously connected to your router and TV" You know, I was going to ridicule that statement till I remembered my Verizon DVR's are connected to both, since the router is some sort of super-router that uses ethernet and coax-cable for networking.
Does this mean that I can finally watch anime straight from japan? Wheres the channel listing for this thing?
That was the first question that came to my mind. I want that unadulterated anime and those japanese tv shows.
Can I finally watch Eurosport in the US???
Yes, but it will be lonely, seeing as whatever friends you may have will surely disown you.
If it's a "rebranded Neuros OSD," does it have the other functionality of a Neuros (video recorder, media file player from external storage? The absence of at least one of the slots (namely the CompactFlash one) in that picture seems to suggest otherwise.
Here's what I don't get; wasn't the OSD in Neuros OSD something about open-source? Why is this a standalone product and not just a software application you can apply to the existing model? That said, the Neuros OSD is something like $180 on Amazon and this is $200. How hard might it be to flash this software onto the OSD and save $20 and gain functionality (assuming it's not a 100% erasing of the previous system).
Boy, I sure hope that made sense. I'll walk away now...
I'm trying to figure out why this was compared to the ZvBox when they appear to do completely different things.
There are a few international channels I like to watch via the internet, because my cable provider can't get them, but they all require a monthly fee. So if this can pipe those to my TV without that monthly fee, even with the initial cost it'd pay for itself pretty fast. Can't wait for their site to come back up so I can take a look at the channel listings.
i mentioned the same thing on engadgethd.. they really have no similarities other than being black boxes with electronics inside
Doubles as a floating ballerina!
i can't imagine the quality of the channels is going to be any good.
The plural of these is Neuroses. A new form of TV addictive mental illness.
Can I work this thing the other way around? Can I pick up US channels when I'm traveling internationally? Because that would make my 9 months in France a bit better.
RTFA:
"... or folks currently living outside of their homeland."
On another note, why the hell would you go to France?!
Wouldn't a slingbox sitting back home serve you better?
Hmm...It is not on the Neuros website and I cannot find where it says it is made by them anywhere on Amazon. Not that it really matters who it is made by it was just something I noticed.

Sounds pretty cool. Sure would be interesting to see the channels received. Also, was wondering what this does to my bandwidth usage, since most ISPs are talking about either capping or repricing high-bandwidth users.
The PR mentions it's Neuros based. So why no recording?
It's basically video streaming, but one wonders how legal this is?
Not impressively WhereverTV website is down as a "systems upgrade"is taking place on the day they announce it....
Once The CRTC finds out about this- how long before they threaten Canadian users with jail for not watching their precious Canadian channels advertising American companies?
"Basic service, which includes hundreds of channels, is free. Premium channels are available for an additional fee, but are optional."
No word on channel lineups yet though.
Don't expect find any mainstream TV there. They are essencially an aggregator of existing streamed TV channels all over the internet. Most of the feeds are low-bandwidth low-resolution, so connecting to your big screen will be disappointing.
Yes. Streams are from internet, so it depends on the broadcatser's stream quality. But since I'm from Italy, I would rather watch ANY Italian streams on my TV instead of having to watch them on my laptop. There are over a 100 hundred Italian channels available. Great idea!
Their site is pretty light on content. No channel line ups, no screen shots, nothing.
Just listings for Senior Software Engineer positions in Pakistan.
How much different is this from TVU, which is free?
Current channel lineup can be found here.

Nothing too exciting for me.... oh well, they might add more channels later on, but who knows.
In the mean time, do anyone know when Sling Catcher will be available?
