Hooray! More Sony VAIO laptops with naming schemes impossible to decipher! Following up on those tasty new
FW and SR lappies that we were informally introduced to earlier this week comes even more foreign images detailing a 13.1-incher. On the surface, it looks like said machines will feature a Core 2 Duo processor, 1,600 x 900 native resolution, 4GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, dual-layer DVD burner, a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS graphics card, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, WiFi, integrated HSDPA connectivity and a modest array of ports. For more details on which model gets what (off the record, of course), dip on into the read links below.

better change your undies then.
matthew Crawford @ Jul 10th 2008 3:32PM
since when is 13.1" ultraportable?
farfisa @ Jul 10th 2008 3:36PM
Maybe it's just the ultra-light category.
Screenshots are in German. What does schneidenkuchen mean?
Dillon @ Jul 10th 2008 4:46PM
Well, according to freetranslations.com, it means "cutting edge cake". Perhaps there is some sort of party going on that we are unaware of?
TylerBrock @ Jul 10th 2008 5:53PM
No, just a macbook air cake cutting knife! RAHUL SOOOOOD!
azn2mit @ Jul 30th 2008 9:52AM
ultraportable is generally defined as less than 1.5" thick and under 4lbs.
IT-Accountant @ Jul 10th 2008 3:33PM
How does the 9300M compare to the 8 series of laptop GPUs? I'm guessing it to perform similarly to a slightly more efficient 8400M. Is that about right?
initialxy @ Jul 10th 2008 3:37PM
http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-9300M-GS.9452.0.html
yeah pretty close to 8400M GS.
Morgan Percy @ Jul 10th 2008 4:51PM
For one it doesn't suffer from the nvidia weak packaging and probable failure problem.
OneLove @ Jul 10th 2008 3:33PM
Yawn
cesium @ Jul 10th 2008 3:42PM
damn thats some nice resolution on a 13"
norider! @ Jul 10th 2008 4:09PM
is magnifier glasses sold separately? i wish all the 14.1 will have that resolution too...
kjb434 @ Jul 10th 2008 4:10PM
Could a marketing slogan now be:
Sony Vaio, we don't use faulty 8000 series GPUs......hehe
or
Upgrade your old Sony so laptop doesn't burn you....
AlphaTeam @ Jul 10th 2008 4:11PM
Bad experience with a S-150 a few years ago and a XG39K before that; not buying another one again.
If anything I might look at upcoming Thinkpads, but of course I think the Macbook is where it's at.
No I'm not a Apple fanboy.
Za @ Jul 10th 2008 10:16PM
Yeah, I use a Macbook and I assure you, I would rather have something with this screen res. Macbook screen is utter shite. Furthermore, build quality is inferior to any laptop I have ever used, and I've used many. Type in "macbook crack" in Google's Image Search.
I have a Macbook, and trust me, it's not the greatest thing since sliced bread. The OS is pretty nice though.
peacefulpony @ Jul 10th 2008 4:41PM
The resolution is 1366x768 on the product sheet, which sounds a lot more reasonable at 13.1".
This laptop has the horsepower to slaughter the competition, and I'm sure a superior build quality, if it lives up to its name brand.
MBA is soooo yesterday...
Khattab @ Jul 10th 2008 4:53PM
Damn right. Love the Design and the build in features, namely the HSDPA modul, the resolution, the memory, the HDMI port, the weight and the CPU Power.
Have been waiting for ages for a decent high resolution 13" notebook with all of those features. Thx, Sony, will definitely be my next one.
Endeavour @ Jul 10th 2008 4:53PM
1366x768 in the cheap model, check the other two.
huh @ Jul 11th 2008 10:54AM
I asked this question in another post, with no answer. Are Sony notebooks build quality better now ? I've seen a couple of high end Vaios crumble to dust within a couple of years.
Isaac @ Jul 10th 2008 6:59PM
waited so long for sony new release
Kirby260 @ Jul 10th 2008 8:38PM
That's some sweet res for a 13.1" panel.
First 16:9AR 13.1" panel I know of.
The X300 comes in second place at 1440x400, with a non standard AR.
Followed by, everyone else with the 3:2AR @ 1280x800.
Kirby260 @ Jul 10th 2008 8:39PM
Clearly I meant 1440x900.
zomg @ Jul 11th 2008 1:14AM
Maths anyone? 1280x800 is 16:10, not 3:2
CHENG @ Jul 13th 2008 8:15AM
Nice, one of the few widescreen laptops out in the moment. This 16:9 screens are definitely the new trend for laptops.
The sony TZ is also 16:9. I'm gonna buy it straight when it comes out.
urbanminstrel @ Jul 11th 2008 11:47AM
Something tells me this is going to be priced way higher than it should be.
seven @ Jul 12th 2008 11:14PM
