If I see one more god-dawn post about this shitty line of laptops I going over to Gizmodo.
Every fucking day with the Eeee piece shit.
Enough already.
gizmodo? enjoy having to click through every single story just to learn the basis gist.
Oh calm down and read an iPhone article...
The atom-based eee laptops should justly be priced a bit more due to their wireless-n cards, versus the 802.11b/g cards found in most of the subnotebook competiton
No wonder the national avg. for credit card debt is the highest in history when
you've got people who actually are considering spending this kind of money for a "netbook".. Economics dictate that one should suffer the weight & size different & buy a regular 14" notebook for 1/2 of price. There are several out there that go on sale regularly for $399 to $499..!!!
I challenge the logic of your statement, friend. People should not
suffer anything. People should buy what they need.
Some people do not need a big ass laptop. Some people need something
bigger than previous iterations of eee, but still smaller than the
"regular 14" notebook".
BTW, the average national credit card debt reaching the levels that
it has is is not due to the boom in affordable netbooks options. It's because people don't understand that they shouldn't buy shit that they can't afford.

this is just ridiculous
These are actually perfect for my use - healthcare field staff with a light-weight sub-note - add an at&t 3g card and they'll be using them everywhere :)
The COGs (Cost of Goods) on the Eee are way too high at this point and people don't see the value of what you're getting. An Intel atom chip costs about $30 in lots of 1000. An 80GB drive is about another $30. A 2 GB DIMM of DDR2 laptop ram is about $25, again we're talking bulk. Total so far is $85. The motherboard for the notebook is probably cheap as well considering that you can buy an desktop mini itx Atom chip and board for $70, now a laptop atom board is probably just a smidge more expensive.Lets say they're about $40-45 with bluetooth and WIFI. 640X480 webcam is about $5-$10, the casing and keyboard is about $10-15. Total now is about $140-$145. A 6 cell battery can cost from $80-$100, now we're getting into $250 territory and I have yet to mention the screen. The main problem now is the cost of the screen which basically kills the deal.If they can get the 10.4 inch screens down in price, this laptop should cost no more than $400-450 with packaging and all that other mess. $650 & $700 is a bit steep for something thats supposed to be cheap and affordable. SSD is just too expensive now.
Wonder if this one kills the battery while its not on?
