Medion dips its toes into the Centrino 2 waters with Akoya S5610

It may be small change compared to the batches of Centrino 2 laptops some other manufacturers are trotting out, but Medion apparently isn't about to let the launch go by without throwing its hat in the ring, and it's now debuted its first entry: the 15.4-inch Akoya S5610 laptop. This one looks like it'll be able to hold its own, however, with it packing a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo P7350 processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphics with 256MB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and 3GB of RAM as standard, plus the usual perks like a 1.3 megapixel webcam and a fingerprint reader. No word on a release 'round these parts, but those in the UK will be able to get their hands one on by the end of this month for £600 (or about $1,200).

Seriously, the entire F***ing world just went off and got themselves a Centrino 2 like over night - wonder if Intel has the capacity to fill all these orders..

When will Engadget come up with a RELEVANT (or relative) system for price comparison!
We all know the Dollar is weak, and $1200 does NOT reflect the relative cost for a consumer in the UK. And it certainly won't cost that much in the US!
Engadget, please, create an index of your own - and do some *slow* math that shows a more realistic and useful equivalent!

living in the US, I have not heard of this brand. Do they make quality products? If so, then it seems quite nice for the money.

You can buy Medion products at Aldi shops in the US. (www.aldi.us)
Medion is sold all over Europe through discount supermarkets like Aldi.

Be carefull with buying electronics from medion, at least i've had problems with there stuff in the past, mainly build quality.
Their always selling Pc/laptops/other preciferal's, but i'd certianly say their pc/note books arn't really value for money certainly with there build quality, and the price you pay for them.
I'd say with medion value for money yes, but can lack in build quality.
Warrenties are short as well, usually 6 mounths. with the product support to match.
but that may be diffrent in the US but its the case for the UK

Please remember: Euro prices for end-consumers (laptops, cars, gas, tomatoes, whatever...) ALWAYS include VAT (which is between 15% and 25% (e.g. germany 19%).
So when converting to US Dollars first reduce that price by ~ 20% (e.g. germany has 19% VAT).
