OCZ announces Centrino 2-based "whitebook" reference design for rebranders
All the big names might have gotten their Centrino 2 lappies out the door today, but there hasn't been much action from the shady rebranders and fly-by-night system builders we love so dearly -- good thing OCZ is here with its Centrino 2-based OCZNBIM17A "whitebook" reference design. Get ready to see this bad boy appear in the back of vans everywhere with random company names on it -- you'll recognize the 17-inch laptop's boxy shape and available X9100 Core 2 Extreme processor, or perhaps the dual CrossFire-capable graphics slots with HDMI output will tip you off. Pricing will vary wildly depending on how various system builders configure this thing, but we've got a feeling generic doesn't mean cheap when it comes to this particular machine.

Looks like an Alienware m9750 laptop.

My thoughts exactly, has a hell of a lot in common with Alien Ware's m9750.

They should make a whitebook iPhone.

The buttons look backlit...if so, that a great bonus plus count me in. Send this bad boy off to Colorware for a custom paint job. I got a one of a kind lappy that will not be left at any airport that's for sure.

Heh... "White Van Laptop." With these specs, it looks better than your typical "White Van Speakers" :)

Judging from the spec., this standard notebook will probably be about as portable as a washing machine.

It's actually an Arima 17 inch notebook (maybe a W835i or W840i), same people who designed the Alienware M9700 and M9750. I own the latter and no, they're pretty portable for 17 inch notebooks; it's actually thinner than my old Dell XPS M1710). It might be because i'm 6'6 so a lot of things are pretty portable for me :D

you know, i could post the following comment on any story and it would still be relevant (and funny):
i was trying to see this on my new iphone but it wouldn't load.
we are such tools of Steve Jobbs and his stupid iphone.
and while i'm at it, i am not a microsoft fanboy. i hate microsoft fanboys. and apple fanboys. there is no rite answer to the microsoft vs apple. different ppl have different needs. If you are just doing email and word processing then you need windows. if you are doing graphic design and stuff, then you need apple. apples are wayyy overpriced for what most people use them for. and ipods work fine on windows. if you have itunes. did i mention what tools we are of bill gates?

wow...
i strangely agree...
