Lenovo's SL, R, and T series ThinkPads get the data sheet treatment

Lenovo provided most of the basic specs for its new batch of ThinkPads when it announced 'em yesterday but, if you want to examine them right down to the very last detail, Lenovo has now got you covered with some data sheets for most the Centrino 2-based laptops. That includes the SL300, SL400 and SL500, the R400 and R500, and the T400 and T500, but not the W series models, although those are really just T series ThinkPads with added ATI Mobility FireGL graphics and Display Port. All set? Then dig into the PDFs below.

For anyone who's interested in the IBM timezone wallpaper, here's the link:

Good chance it's not a misprint, my x61t has 1400*1050 on 12 inch - and it's great, having a bit more on a 14" is totally reasonable.
David @ Jul 16th 2008 6:31PM
I'm going to assume that the screen option for the T400 that says WXGA+ w/ LED backlight at 1680 x 1050 is a misprint. how could anybody read that resolution on a 14" screen?
still funny though. 1440 x 900 is all I need.
Macindows @ Jul 16th 2008 6:34PM
Well, the Sony Vaio Z has a 13.1" screen and a resolution of 1600x900!
OGHowie @ Jul 16th 2008 6:35PM
Yeah, I hope so on the T400 1440x900 LED.
I love my T43, but the screen ain't so great. The LED backlighting should help.
Joe @ Jul 16th 2008 6:41PM
I really hope it isn't a missprint. It's exactly what I need, as the 15.4" is to big for me.
I love having so much screen real estate as I do lots of prograaming on the road.
MioTheGreat @ Jul 17th 2008 2:08AM
My laptop has a 15.4" 1920x1200 screen.
I can't imagine using anything lower resolution.
Adriano Macchietto @ Aug 3rd 2008 12:20AM
Having a higher resolution is always better. All you need to do is increase the DPI of your fonts.
OGHowie @ Jul 16th 2008 6:35PM
You can also get Windows XP Prof preinstalled instead of Vista. w00t!
l0g @ Jul 16th 2008 6:45PM
Looks like Lenovo may drop the SUSE option with this batch of T series notebooks... Bummer.
AlphaTeam @ Jul 16th 2008 6:47PM
I though the T-series with the -p moniker was suppose to be the ones with workstation cards in them. So will the W-series be the same as the T-series except with workstation cards? That would be really pointless.
fuzzy @ Jul 16th 2008 7:14PM
Damn, the SL300 still has WXGA, not WXGA+. Only the X300 gets WXGA+ in a 13". And, as far as I know, the only one that does.
Yeah, that Vaio Z has 1600x900 which is ultrahot... but the thing is so expensive.
fuzzy @ Jul 16th 2008 7:18PM
Wow, another thing.
SL300 is the same thickness as the other ones. 1.3" at slimmest, and 1.5" at thickest. The Macbook, which I never found to be particularly "light" as a 13.3" laptop, is 1.1".
Damn, that sucks. :(
Glenn @ Jul 16th 2008 9:01PM
So when are these going to be released? I need a new lappy
Andrew @ Jul 17th 2008 1:07PM
I second that question!
Fozzy Bear @ Jul 16th 2008 9:25PM
this thing is ugly.
Michael @ Jul 17th 2008 12:15AM
Which is exactly why you don't buy the pictured R series...
Other than that (chunky) model, the ThinkPad design is the best, period.
meist3r @ Jul 17th 2008 6:17AM
I agree, I also think the t/r400 and 500 series design of the front has been badly messed up. Why didn't they put the headphone ports and the firewire or whatever that is on the side where the DVD drive is? I own a R60 laptop from a couple of years ago and the design is as slick as they come. So it's not the R series in general that is ugly, just a few models that really stand out in the wrong way. Despite the looks these things are real work horses if you need them and I gladly pay a couple of bucks more for good hardware support and such. I run Linux and even though Ubuntu runs a ton of hardware I was always pretty well off with IBM so far.
One problem though, here the same thing: To heavy, my laptop has a bigger battery and weighs just under 6 pounds, that's not really an option anymore.
NTheZone @ Aug 12th 2008 8:39PM
Found a likely typo:
WXGA+ W/LED Backlight (1680x1050, 129dpi, 200+ nit)
This from the specs for a 14.1" T400. Highly unlikely. If they erred and meant so say WSXGA+ that would be awesome. Many people have been asking for it since the SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) has disappeared from the US Lenovo lineup.
I am not holding my breath.
peacefulpony @ Jul 16th 2008 9:41PM
I believe these laptops were released sometime during the mid-90's as a retro salute to cars in the 80's. Well done Lenovo.
Joe @ Apr 21st 2009 4:25PM
I respect your opinion, but disagree. I love the thinkpad design. If any, I compare the design with the not so beautiful girl in school (thinkpad aesthetics) with the perfect rack (as in the keyboard.)
I just love typing on their keyboards. And the trackpoint is awesome too!
thedailynathan @ Jul 16th 2008 10:41PM
So what the heck is up with not offering Vista Premium 64-bit? They offer it on Business, but not Prermium?
That's the deal-killer for me.

damn, no displayport and just WXGA that's disappointing :(
i hope the tablet version will have WSXGA as an option.

At the rate that their customer service is LITERALLY turning away customers, does it really matter how good or bad the products are?
braindancer @ Aug 5th 2008 12:01PM
Just ordered the T500. Estimated ship date is 9/19. Wee.
