Most sensible people finds the idea of standing in line for something like a phone fairly ridiculous, so yeah.

I've actually seen this phone in the flesh. The darker color scheme is so much better and the phone itself is fantastic. Quick, responsive, great features, slim, battery life to match the iPhone... it's Nokia's best ever device.

That's not saying much :p
I think you'll find the battery life is far better, at least that's what some reviews have had me think.
Not to mention removable battery. Maps onboard, not downloadable a la iPhone (although turn-by-turn is a paid-for thing as I understand it). Real tactile keys, the ability to make calls with video if you so desire (altho the video is only 15fps, it's livable). Weaknesses include pic and vid quality compared to some other Nokias in the price range, smaller display, 2.5mm headphone jack.
I have the asian edition of the phone. The keys are one of the best I've seen and used. Much better than the E61, BlackJack II.
add in our highest-in-the-country sales tax, and the price goes from $483 to $532.50

too bad you guys got the white one. we´ve had the black one in europe for a couple of weeks and it is fucking sweet! pictures dont do it justice, this is a nice looking phone.

I used to love Nokia phones, but the future war here is on the software, folks. Apple, even Microsoft, have Nokia on the run here (as well as pretty much the rest of the industry).
No amount of slick hardware design is going to save you when you have a p.o.s. operating system running across all 50 of your devices, including a terrible, terrible excuse for a touchscreen phone (complete with toothpick, geez, i mean, this is after 2 ultra-successful iphone launches, and nokia still don't get it)
Heck, even if Nokia focused all their efforts on 1 design they'd have a battle on their hands against Apple. They're just in an awful situation right now. And it's a shame, because just like what happened with the Walkman, we're going to see a great name vanish into nothingness 5 years from now when everyone's buying their £100 iphone nanos and no one wants a damn open source symbian shitty toothpick tube.

Nokia has two primary phone operating systems, S40 and S60. S60 is the "smart" OS and S40 is the "functional" OS. They do not currently have a touchscreen phone on the network, but that's coming soon with a new iteration of S60. Unless, of course, you're talking about the N810, which is based on Linux and isn't a phone, but an internet tablet. Kinda like an iPod Touch, but useful.
They still command a major part of the market, and it's not like they're sitting around waiting for Apple to steal their market. They've actually started partnering with US carriers again. Baby steps to get us to give a shit, but they still have Europe handled.
Nokia will be availible to comment on your post when Microsoft, Apple, RIM, and Palm have anywhere near the 65% world wide market share that Symbian currently is enjoying.

Apple have done well to push the industry forward. No doubt some are pulling their socks up given the fresh competition.
Apple have made it easier to find apps for your phone. But Nokia also has lots of ready-to-use apps and freeware. It's just some are harder to find.
Your touchscreen comments were out of place 'cause this is a non-touchscreen device.
What I find unlivable with Apple's current iPhone products is:
*poor bluetooth profile support
*dowloading maps instead of having them onboard (lining the pockets of your phone company)
*single embedded non-replaceable limited-lifetime battery
*no copy & paste
*no tactile kayboard/ numpad
(among others)
So I generally disagree it's all about software. For my needs it's really not suitable. No doubt it's a great media device, tho. As long as you can live with that embedded, 300-500-charge liftetime, non user-replaceable battery.
Would buy one if it comes with T-Mobile 3G (AWS).
I hear you bachviet. My cousin wants to replace his Dash and if this was available with the T-mobile USA 3G bands, this would be definite. I myself am holding out for something from Nokia with a regular keypad and T-mobile USA 3G to replace my current N76.

i know exacly what im talking about. i know nokia sells more phones per minute than iphone selld per year or whatever. but cmon, they keep releasingfugly phones and theyr dominance will fall.

I work in the corporate field. And NEVER see any one with a Nokia s60 device. That doesn't mean their not solid, it means people here don't buy them. Most people in America with Nokia's have low end handsets. Apple/Blackberry don't make a low end handset. All their phones are feature packed. Many people in the States aren't looking to buy feature packed PDAs and media phone's, and the ones that are ...are buying Blackberry's and iPhones.

AJC, Nokia has poor market presence in the US. S60 phones are used a lot of business in EMEA and Asia
As for stock price, last time I looked Apple's was south of 150.
