Nokia's North American E71 now available at Chicago flagship store
Call it a hunch, but you shouldn't have to wait too awfully long (like, hours / days / weeks) to secure Nokia's North American E71 today. Said handset is now available at the company's flagship store in Chicago, complete with a QWERTY keyboard and US-friendly 3G. Eager to grab one? Total cost will be $483 (plus tax) in addition to a roundtrip ticket to Chi-town, considering the store won't ship to out-of-towners (or so we hear).

"rich rich rich, you just messed with the wrong company. lets pull some numbers together shall we? :)
This is the last 2 yearsof stock.
nokia start: 19
nokia end: 27
Apple start: 54
Apple end: 166
thats the last 2 years.. hmmm. nokia has risen so much over the last two years huh? "
You do realize that there is a lot more Nokia stock than there is Apple stock. Lets try this on for size. If company A has 100 shares at $27 dollars a share and company B has 10 shares at $166, then who truly has to more potent company?
SuperSexyErik,
The phone market consists of many different needs. iPhone doesn't satisfy all those needs, nor price brackets.
Stock price has nothing to do with market dominance, or indicating needs being fulfilled, or even an understanding of the market. It has a lot to do with jittery investors (often clueless themselves).
I hope this has helped you. Please enjoy your sexy device. Just understand it's not for everyone, and a single phone or two do not dominate markets with varying needs and budgets.
I love this phone. I use it for like two weeks, and still have almost nothing bad to say. Metal housing is nice, it's fast, got plenty of RAM - no more sluggish responses like it was with E61. Keyboard is just perfect; so much better than it was in E61/E61i - I make no mistakes at all - even while typing on the go.
The only "feature" that annoys me - Nokia moved volume keys from left side of the phone to the right.
thank god i live in chicago
Any news on the European version? And anyway, since any serious business phone is quadband nowadays, what's the actual difference?!
It's already on sale in Europe. I got mine two weeks ago.
I assume its unlocked? Can anybody verify?
Of course it is. For some reason, American carriers don't want to give their customers any better Nokias, so all of them are available SIM-free and unlocked only...
There's no need to confirm, mate. It's sold at a Nokia store without contract. Since no one's helping you pay for your phone, no one's going to lock it either.
Okay, just sent me your orders, I'll pick 'em up and ship 'em.
Looks like any other similar outdated, obsolete old technology. At least Nokia still offers millions of their cheap low end and free substandard phones worldwide. It will help continue to perpetuate their bragging rights for moving millions of phones daily.
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't consider my N95 8GB as substandard. I got it for free, like many others.
Coming to the NY store on Thursday.
Make it a fashionable blue or pink backing and i'm sold. Blackjack II, watch out: http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/21/samsung-blackjack-ii-now-available-in-pink-and-blue/
I've had it for 3 weeks (europe calling) and it's excellent... a few minor input-related glitches, but expect them to vanish with the next software update..
those keys look horrid in white, though.. try and get the black ones.
lol !!
nokia sells that many phones because:
-half of them are given away free for 2 year contracts
-theyre cheaply made-hard to use
-fugly as hell
the iphone on the other hand is the next generation of mobile computing. thats why its out of stock around the world at the moment..
You do realise that the N-series outsold the iPhone, don't you?
Please promise me you'll never breed.
*Sigh* Just imagine all the great things that could be done by people which otherwise waste their time with posting braindead troll posts.
In fairness, L, I don't think he's mentally equipped to do much else.
OK, that's probably true...
@Mark Anderson
I'm sure some where there is a Wal-mart in need of a door greeter. Or at the very least, a street in need of a speed bump. I'm sure he should be able to handle either task.
Yes...iFoney is so advanced that it supports the lates technologies such as: MMS, cut/paste, video recording, has at least 3 MP camera, user replacable battery, is sim unlocked for $480, supports HSDPA...wait...that's another phone... I just got confused....
oh, you mean like the iphone are given away for free with a 18 month plan? cool.
apple sdk page 16
"Only one iPhone application can run at a time, and third-party applications never run in the background. This means that when users switch to another application, answer the phone, or check their email, the application they were using quits."
would you like to rephrase your comment "the iphone on the other hand is the next generation of mobile computing"
What carrier, you forgot to mention that part.... Chicago Flagship???? ATT? TMobile? Sprint?
That's Chicag's Nokia Flagship Store oat 545 N. Michigan Ave. This phone will work on T-Mobile in EDGE only mode as it doesn't support T-Mobile's 3G frequency (UMTS 1700 a.k.a. AWS). On at&t it will work in 3G mode. This is a SIM unlocked phone so you can use it on ANY GSM network.
It means sold unlocked. As in, full price upfront, none of that subsidised locked into carrier crap ;)
SuperSexyEric, you do know that Nokia has the worldwide majority in the smartphone (READ: NOT THE CHEAP CONSUMER PHONES THAT ARE GIVEN AWAY) market right? Also if you google smartphone OS marketshare, although Symbian (S60, the smartphone version) has a low market share in the U.S., in the rest of the world Symbian is easily the dominant OS.
I was an avid user of WM devices for years, until i laid my hands on an iPhone. It really made me even more aware of how important UX, UI and applications are! I tried the N95 and even the newer WM devices and none of them come close. I am digging the iPhone app's, and am taking more photos than ever b4 despite its crappy camera, because the integration is so good with my mac, pic's, music etc....Device design alone just will not cut it sorry..
Why are you commenting on the iPhone when this is about the E71?
Try integrating between Leopard and the E-series phones using the lastest iSync update... you won't be disappointed.

This is a Symbian-based device.
The E71-2 has US spec HSDPA.
European version does work here with 3G networks.

If you don't sell it in NY it doesn't matter
Launch party at 8am in NY Nokia store on Thursday. Need to RSVP. I suppose that means it'll go on sale on the same day.
