Samsung unveils 46- / 52-inch Series 8 LCD HDTVs
Might want to slow down there, Samsung -- don't want to pull anything by cranking out too many new HDTVs at a time. Yep, Sammy's letting loose a few more sets today alongside the Series 7 plasmas and Series 9 LCDs: the September-bound Series 8 LCD HDTV line. The Series 8 850 (rose accents) and Series 8 860 (deep blue accents) only differ in color, while they both pack a 1080p Ultra Clear panel, Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology, a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, InfoLink RSS reader, DLNA certification, 4-millisecond response time and twin down-firing speakers with an integrated subwoofer. You'll also find a built-in NTSC / ATSC / ClearQAM TV tuner, a DNIe Pro video processor, swivel stand and four HDMI-CEC ports (among others). The pain? $2,699.99 for the LN46A850, $3,399.99 for the LN52A850, $2,799.99 for the LN46A860 and $3,499.99 for the LN52A860. Got all that?

$100 premium for blue accent versus red? Can I save a further hundred by getting just a plain black bezel (which is what I want, anyway.) there are smart prices,, and there's this pricing scheme; never the twain shall meet.
MooseMuffin @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:36PM
According to the press release, the blue one has 2 usb ports while the red one has 1.
Totally @ Jul 23rd 2008 10:34PM
Pity, I like blue. You'd think black was standard and colored versions carried an even premium
@MooseMuffin
Then in that case I nominate that as the most expensive USB port ever.

ahh perfect for my new super medialive media center extender II turbo championship edition.
TrueDis @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:22PM
So they finally release another color hue and charge a $100 premium for it. Seriously Samsung, that's some bullsh*t!
stephen jobs @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:00PM
Tell that to Apple Inc.

Actual pics soon ?

80GB PS3 and this 52" TV. Sounds like Sept will be Christmas for me.
(though it is lame to charge different prices for different color products, even if there is an extra USB port)
Nirvan @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:11PM
I have the 750. Very nice. Not sure what the difference between the 750 and the 850 (or 860) really is except maybe an extra USB port?
Also the TOC is hardly noticeable, especially at night.
Not a big deal (and yes save yourself the $100)
Adam @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:34PM
You know, I thought I might prefer blue to the red accents on my 650 series, but seeing the pic above, I'm glad I got the set I did. The blue looks less classy. I would have rather just had black, though...
What is Samsung thinking!?
Hooterman @ Jul 23rd 2008 1:46PM
I don't understand what the difference is between the 750 and the 850?
I had thought the 8 series was going to be the LED backlit stuff, but that's 9 now.
/confused
Wildarms7000 @ Jul 23rd 2008 2:00PM
Well I still want X.V. Color.
Hooterman @ Jul 23rd 2008 3:33PM
Ok, it seems that the 8 series is basically a 7 series, but thinner. 1.9" maximum depth.
Jason @ Jul 23rd 2008 6:46PM
Maybe they fixed the ring of light around the TOC on the 750? I heard that was a minor issue some people had trouble with

No tru2way interactive capability?

The 860 has an 18 month warranty and the 850 has a 12 month warranty.

Loving my 750!
The ring of light around the tv is definitely there, but hardly a bother for us. I'm going to give Samsung a thumbs up for sending me the wireless LinkStick for free. All because I simply took the time to register my tv online. It was a nice touch!

I dont see the point in the Different colors myself. I just assume go with the basic colors myself. I write articles about these televisions all the time and the different colors do not seem to be a big deal.
