Fujitsu's Lifebook U2010 gets new pics, specs
We've caught a few glimpses of Fujitsu's Lifebook U2010 in the past, but now we've got a whole handful of new shots of the crazy-versatile device, plus some fresh video and actual, honest-to-goodness specs. According to a Vietnamese forum, the miniature laptop / tablet will feature an Intel Atom CPU (at 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz), a 5.6-inch 1024 x 768 display, an 80GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, a 3G radio, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and will weigh 680 grams (about 1.5 lbs). No word on a street date or regions for the device right now, but the price is said to clock in around a hefty $1300.

Gold medal. For Eee clone fail.
are you saying this is a clone? fujitsu's mini laptops were out way before eee pc.
good thing they didn't clone mediocrity, otherwise it wouldn't have:
1) in-built GPS
2) 3G
3) or weigh 680 grams versus 1.1kg-1.4kg of eee pc
4) or have a unique small swivel pda/ tablet design.
...and it's priced accordingly.
this is the type of laptop model which is really getting embarrased by the new netbooks for value for money.
yeah, that Gigabyte does pretty much the same thing for half the price. though it is heavier. 1.5 lbs is pretty impressive. could that be without battery/small battery?
Idiot Fujitsu is a established laptop maker i don't think they are trying to compete with the cheap end of the laptop spectrum where the e is sorta perched at.
This laptop looks pretty cool a bit pricy but pretty cool.
1st! and can engadget manage to post about something other than tiny computers for once?
Damn dude, you're a dumb ass.
I find it kinda refreshing now that the whole iphone thing is finally dying down

These netbooks that you are tired of reading about are a mini revolution taking place in a booming sector of modern computing - my question is, if you are not interested in what is happening with modern techonology why are you reading a technology news website?
Soon as I saw that form factor, almost 35 different possible ways that it could be used in white collar crime popped into my mind.
AND IT EVEN RUNS WINDOWS YAY !!!!!
Can you tell me in what way it could be used in white collar crimes? I'm kinda interested, I heard White Collar Crime is the most lucrative job market.
"Eaasy money" ;-)
Why did everyone low rank him... you ppl have no humor. Anyways, in order to use it for white collar crimes, you first need a white collar job which requires a masters degree or phd and 15+ years of experience to put yourself in a position of doing financial damage. Well, i guess thats not the only way. I suppose you could just work for a bank as a manager, sneak in after dark, hack yourself a few million and ne'er return : ) hmm... see, you sit down and the ideas just start rollin in
Peter: "That virus you're always talking about, right? The one that could, uh, rip off the company for a bunch of money."
Michael: "Yeah, what about it?"
Peter: "Well, how does it work?"
Michael: "It's pretty brilliant. What it does is, every time there's a bank transaction where interest is competed, you know, thousands a day, the computer ends up with these fractions of acent, which it usually rounds off. What this does is, it takes those little remainders and puts it into an account."
Peter: "This sounds familiar."
Michael: "Yeah, they did it in Superman III."
im glad to see the tab key moved to the correct side of the keyboard. but now the numbers are in the wrong place. make it 2 gig and $999, and id want one for sure.
Look at the "bluetooth" logo, its huge.
I know. Normally, I'd say it's to keep costs down, but that theory clearly won't work.
Its just a sticker, you could take it off if you don't like it.
It's not the sticker that's huge, it's the laptop that's small. :D
It;s actually not a bad idea having a touchscreen and the keyboard looks ok. However a bit bigger screen would be nice-about 7 in. I'd remove the fingerprint scanner and save space cost-it just leads to your figer getting sliced off later.
Anyway, none of it matters at $1300!!! It almost makes the MacBook Air look like a value, but you could have some serious computing power for less than that price in (mid-small) a laptop!.
crazy-versatile...
that's the same price as 2.4Ghz white Macbook!
you know....
And without a dvd burner in this bitch its an epic fail for US$1300
This is a purpose-built laptop. Its not a generic laptop like the MB, or any of the other 13", 14", etc. laptops. Your just wasting keystrokes comparing the two. No one in the market for a 13" laptop would think of buying this.
Its tiny, with a lot of features, and a touch screen. I thought you were gadget people. Don't you know by now that stuffing a lot of stuff into a small package costs a lot of money?
Any fucking excuse to bring up an Apple product. You fucks are relentless.
Low ranked you bitch!!!

I would Love this if it was 500 dollars cheaper.
So it's a Gigabyte 912 with built in 3G and double the price? Where do I opt-out?
outside.
It's alot smaller mate, 5" screen which fits inside a coat pocket. Good luck doing that with a EEE.
Is that a bezel in your pocket, or are you just happy to not see it?
Atom with a $1300 price tag? if it were under $1000 I would be sold.
is it me or does that look like a finger print scanner on the right side by the screen
That's what I was going to say. This little thing packs a lot of tech; I'd even consider using Windows with hardware like that.
Will we see a similar update to the P1620?
Kinda fugly!
Was going to say the same thing, but then most netbooks are (though I suppose the cost of this thing really voids it from being in that particular category!)
5.6 inch display!? And I thought the Eee was cramped!
Its a bit pricey for a laptop with a 5.6" display.
Where's the mouse?! I don't even see a trackpoint. I have never seen such a small keyboard area on a laptop before, that is amazing.
I think that the mouse buttons are on the top left and the nipple on the top right, judging from the photos in the link.
Better than a touchpad since it takes a lot less space, and can be used in tablet mode.
- Decent build.
- Small screen... not even a widescreen.... should have used all that real estate.
- No trackpad, no mouse "nipple".
- No dedicated Graphics chip
- 1300 WHAT?!?!?! Lost me.
1) This is something that fits to your pocket, you can't have a 17" LCD on a 5" device, sorry, laws of physics.
2) There is a nipple, look at the link.
3) To save the battery, who wants to do gaming on this device. And the space is a bit cramped on this device too, your videocard is probaly heavier than this device.
Oh, and the big bezel is since you hold it from there in tablet mode, look at the link.
Man, that would be pretty good for college. I've got an m200 though, and that is 12" with a nice 1400x1050 resolution, it more than suffices. $1300 is pretty steep, especially compared to the $388 (including shipping) that I paid for my Toshiba... Still nice though.
And I thought the original EEE was too expensive! It's all fun and games until someone capitalizes on a brand.
Uhm, this is an UMPC. And Fujitsu's been doing it for a few years, before the Eee was even rumoured.
After watching the video it is apparent that a keyboard this size is too small to touch-type on and a little too large to thumb-type.
I would love to see Fujitsu make the whole unit a little smaller by using a thumb keyboard (similar to the Treos or Blackberrys) and removing some of that bezel and fingerprint scanner. They could get the whole unit down to 6-inches if they could reduce the bevel size to 0.2-inches. It's getting close to Nintendo DS size range (5.25-inches)!
I can't wait until someone makes a similar computer that's the size of a Nintendo DS (pocket-friendly), with a WXGA (1280x720) multi-touch-screen, a decent thumb keyboard and nipple-mouse and has a dedicated button to quickly switch between computer and phone modes. Plus of course WifFi, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS, and a SSD. Oh yeah, make it fast and have all-day battery life. It doesn't matter what OS it runs as long as it can browse the web and has the Flash player.
@unknown
yes, it's the Sharp Willcom D4. well, ok, it's a bit bigger than a nintendo. ok, quite a bit bigger, but still lots smaller than the eee and the fujitsu u1010/u2010/u810 or whatever!
Price is everything, I bet these won't sell even 10% of the amount the $300-400 netbooks will.
1300$ ???? no thanks, i'll do with my touch pro or xperia X1 i am gonna get in the near future
There is discount for student in Hong Kong

This looks like an update to the U810. I've played around with those tablets quit a bit. They are very, very nice for all the tech that gets packed into something so ridiculously tiny. At the same time, however, the keyboard is too small to actually do anything with. You cant compare these things to the EEE. They're a ton more powerful and a lot smaller. It's closer to UMPC size. I'd actually prefer it if the keyboards were smaller...At least that way you'd be able to thumb type.
To borrow a popular Internet catchphrase, this thing p-owns the Asus EEE! Too bad about that price, though. Guess you have to expect that when you pack your system with everything short of a nuclear reactor...
That's the most pathetic spacebar I've ever seen. It's practically smaller than the enter key.
The OLPC does all the same stuff and more! If someone would make a commercial version with a little more storage and ram that would be worth looking at.
I own a U810 and I want this thing bad. The problem is installing the XP drivers for my U810 was enough of a nightmare, I doubt they will even offer XP drivers for this. This has a waaaaay better CPU than mine, but I still don't think it should be running Vista. Yet another terrible situation where I could put the blame on Microsoft.
finally something to replace the unusably slow U810 (800mhz)
i may sell my 12" tablet (latitude xt) for one of these.
For that price a wider screen @ 1280 x 768 and 2GB of RAM is warranted.
A computer I can use while sitting on the can. That's what I'm talking about! This will work great for travelling on the motorcycle. Sitting in bed at night surfing the web, keeping track of finances, etc. I was planning on getting a U810 at some point, but then spy shots of this started showing up, so I'll keep saving my money for this cutie. And yes, Fujitsu was way before the E-pc and really they are not in the same league until they make a tablet version of the E. 2GB of ram would have been nice though, maybe it will at least be an option or be upgradable in this one. We shall see. For all it does the price really is about right.
Interesting, it's missing the Japanese keys (zenkaku, hankaku, henkan...). Wonder if it will work with the E-mobile 3G SIM card.
Any idea when will be available for sale ??
need it badly.......................
if some one of studant can contact me ????????
