Details surface on Lenovo's IdeaPad G430
We've been hearing the faintest of whispers that Lenovo had a new IdeaPad on tap, and while we haven't received any official confirmation just yet, we figured it prudent to pass along the latest. According to an anonymous tipster, the G430 will boast a 14.1-inch WXGA display, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Vista Home Basic, a DVD burner, NVIDIA's 256MB GeForce 9300M GS and a 6-cell battery. Furthermore, you'll find 802.11a/b/g WiFi, no webcam and an undisclosed array of ports. Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to pricing / availability, but surely we'll know something more soon. Surely.[Thanks, anonymous]

We can't low rank you... you didn't say "First!"
more companies need to make a laptop in the 13.3-14.1" market, this appeals to me more or less because of that screen size, 15.4" is just too big
my guess is overpriced.
I agree with the need more of this stuff..but
I can't tell if this is a Souped Up EEEPc,
or if it's an Ultraportable with a nice video card.
I'm not familiar with the IdeaPad line but the lack of a webcam is a dealbreaker for me...
Nice, home basic a let down. Premium would be better or ultimate even.
BTW has anyone used cuil i searched for bbc got no results so i searched for BBC and got two hits So i searched for engadget got nowt then Engadget. So this means you've got to use capital letters. They claim to have the biggest index in the world only if you use caps
WTF are you blabbering on about?
If youve have'nt got a clue what im talking about why comment and not go look for your self idiot.
with 2GB RAM you should be glad they didn't put anything better than basic.
I used Cuil.com earlier today after reading a post in Google.News.
Same thing happend to me, I searched for shoryuken getting nothing, but when you search Shoryuken they creatively display the links.
BTW you have to admit you did mention Cuil randomly.
Cuil is, based on my searches, useless. I am all for innovation and competition, but they will have to make serious improvements in their search engine to make it useful at all.
Anyone know when the Ideapad Y730 go on sale?
Being it to the UK lenovo, as well as the other models in the US. We have to make do with the 3000 series still.
I think they are trying to tease me to death. I simply want a lightweight 12" convertible tablet (ideaPAD, get it?) notebook with a camera, this is the opposite.
The HP TX1000/2000 series might be up your alley. The only reason I'm selling mine is the poor linux support. Works very well under windows...oh yeah, and if you suffer from migraines, looking at a laptop screen in portrait orientation is deadly...learned that the hardway.
@jorvay: The tx1000/2000 are interesting, but they are consumer models. They are glossy plastic, don't have great build quality, and don't look professional. As well, I think the Core 2 Duo is a better chip than the AMD chips (I would need it for programming). And I would also want to run Linux on my system.
in that case, this is not the computer for you, even at a good price. Nothing against it, but you need something a little more linux-friendly for sure. The good news for tablets+ linux in general was that getting the touch screen working was fairly easy. It was other components that are typical of HP machines that gave me trouble.
I can understand the lack of linux support for some components though. It''s not like there's a group of linux pros out there willing to design hardware drivers for free...oh wait: http://kerneltrap.org/node/7636
Why no webcam? What if my idea to generate a little money on the side requires me to stream some video?
Don't call me Shirley.
what's wrong with other models?
i am so confuse with their naming convention
