Penguin United offers its own quad Wiimote charging station
Two 4x Wiimote charging stations in a week? Um, okay. If, for whatever reason, the Nintendo-licensed charger we saw just days ago wasn't right for you (read: too expensive to import), we've got yet another option for you to consider. Penguin United -- which gets brownie points on name alone -- has just unveiled the Quad Charge Station for Wii, which utilizes Li-ion batteries that promise 13 full hours of playtime from each Wiimote. Additionally, it can juice up your controllers in just 4 hours, and there's even LEDs to inform you of how close to full each one is. The real kicker? The colored Wiimote straps that PU tosses in -- huzzah! Include one in your next party for $44.99.

That's actually a really good idea.... how come Nintendo didn't think of that?
letstakeawalk @ Jul 30th 2008 4:51PM
Not to bust anybody's chops, but I thought Engadget had decided not to use "that word" until the Weemote situation was resolved...

They vowed not to use Weemote again, not Wiimote.
letstakeawalk @ Jul 30th 2008 6:28PM
"While the Nintendo Wii Remote's official name isn't that word (we refuse to type it again), evil bloggers and retail chains have taken to the term and Forbis claims its brand has been diluted, confused, and passed up."
I read that line as Engadget deciding not to use the word which was unofficially used by the bloggers and retail chains in reference to the Wii Remote. Since those groups used the word "Wiimote", I naturally understood Engadget to be nixing the term "Wiimote" while accepting that "Weemote" was a protected name. Again, I'm not trying to be too picky here, I just thought Engadget was being understanding of the Weemote guy's position regarding the dilution of his product's name recognition.

Feels great to be third?
Wait till you find out how good it feels when you're first.
Because it doesn't feel any damn different.
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Jul 30th 2008 5:43PM
Third isn't even first loser. It's second loser.
Nouman @ Jul 30th 2008 5:12PM
Don't feel like removing the jacket on three controllers and putting them back on every three days :/

I'm waiting for a charger that can be used with MotionPlus still attached.
ds @ Jul 31st 2008 11:07AM
Why?
BirdofPrey @ Aug 9th 2008 7:35AM
See above post
Minotaar @ Jul 30th 2008 5:16PM
Looks good but looks like there is no room for wrist straps. Problematic design?
Basic @ Jul 30th 2008 6:56PM
probably why it won't pass licensing
geeky @ Jul 30th 2008 5:22PM
I wonder if this will be compatible with the new Motion Plus unit they showed at E3.
As awesome as this is, I'm forcing myself to wait.
JoePerri @ Jul 30th 2008 5:22PM
Umm, my AA NiMH batteries recharge in 20 minuets. And since they are like $9 for a four pack I can keep spares always charged and ready to go. This doesn't seem like a very good solution.
Haikibutsu @ Jul 30th 2008 5:24PM
Am I the only person who uses the 20 dollar pack of 10 walmart rechargable batteries plus charger? Sure, they aren't as good as the Lithium Ions, but they don't explode, and Nickel Metal Hydride is good enough. I don't mind charging it every day either.
Kawaiipikachu @ Jul 30th 2008 7:49PM
Good on you to think of the same idea .
While your may ba wal-mart brand meanwhile i uses Energiers but at least we got the same idea .
I noticed most of these docking systems uses only 1800mah battery packs meanwhile the energizers uses 2500mah each cell .
While like you said it s NI-MH not lithium-ion then again imagine the number of clueless idiots that might put some AA lithuim-ion in there 20 year old ni-cad chargers & then the possible ban of sale even for use in PDA'S & Phones ect .
Glad that im not the only one just sticking to standed recharables .
tekdroid @ Jul 30th 2008 11:57PM
no you're not the only one. I shake my head whenever I see these things.
Dan Davis @ Jul 31st 2008 9:40AM
I use Eneloops in mine :)
The nice thing is that in a couple of years when the new Nintendo console comes out, I can just transfer those batteries to those new controllers (so long as Nintendo doesn't come up with some proprietary battery format).
Scott @ Jul 30th 2008 7:21PM
These things suck when you are using the Straps for the Wimote. They just get in the way. I love my TV to much to let a Wimote fly through it.
Richard @ Jul 31st 2008 5:05AM
Hi guys,
We are from Penguin United. To clarify it does fit with straps, may have to adjust it a little but it will fit perfectly fine. Any question please direct it to customerservice@penguinunited.com
Otherwise thanks everyone for the feedback, good or bad both appreciated.
Arthur Nonamiss @ Jul 31st 2008 11:01AM
Wow... if PU is reading these comments, I might as well say this: I'd have bought it already if there were any links to any online retailers. Clicking on the Red Lion just takes you to a company page, where I can't seem to locate a catalog, and clicking on the "Grear of Game" takes me to a site where "4x" and "quad" don't turn up any search results.
This product looks so incredible, and the price is right, that many people would probably buy it on a whim. Too bad we can't...
bluestriker @ Jul 31st 2008 1:14PM
I like this idea a lot, but unfortunately my Wii has not been getting much activity at all. :/
yaointeractive @ Jul 31st 2008 9:09PM
Retail location should begin selling these at around End of August, sorry for the delay.
JdBk @ Sep 18th 2008 5:36AM
Is there a new delay? it seems it is still non available....
