Hacker stuffs a wired 360 controller in a DualShock 3 shell
Console modders out there have been doing crazy things with controllers for a while now, and while this latest piece isn't as crazy as the one-handed Access Controller, it's still good for a double-take -- check out this wired 360 controller shoehorned into a DualShock3 shell, complete with green LEDs. THe modder, RDC, says it works great, rumble included, but that there's no headset connector and the L2 and R2 triggers aren't analog -- both things he's hoping to fix in the next version. We'd suggest keeping the DS3 buttons as well -- while the colorful 360 buttons look pretty hot against that black case, we'd rather break this thing out and blow minds stealth-style.

Who, Jacob? You know where to find him, Locke...

They should make one for my gamecast.
Aguiluz @ Jul 31st 2008 3:04PM
Guys, a person named RDC made it and not Ben Heck...
Abuzar Baloach @ Jul 31st 2008 3:05PM
He should have done the OPPOSITE.
The 360 controller is way more comfortable in my opinion. If I could buy a PS3 controller in 360 size I would do it in an instant.

Thanks for making my day!
Whubbsie @ Jul 31st 2008 6:48PM
seriously....why? why even bother???
Lars @ Jul 31st 2008 7:25PM
Ahhhh, the X is in the wrong spot!
I don't get why people make comments like Abuzar. For one thing, the opposite has already been done. For another, it shouldn't matter at all what your personal preference is. There are other people in the world besides you. I believe that there should be all kinds of shapes and sizes of controllers for consoles, to suit the personal tastes of a variety of people. I never understood forcing everyone to use one specific controller type. That's why I generally like the PS3 over the 360 too, because there's comanies out there like MadCatz and Brando making a variety of 3rd party controllers... unfortunately they're not different enough from the originals, IMO... Except the arcade sticks.
Overall I prefer the PS controllers over Xbox, but I'd love to get a hybrid of the two because I like the width of the 360 controller, but hate the heft, and the oddly placed left stick drives me nuts. I guess I'm a sucker for symmetry.

@robino:
Dude, fuck you. I don't own a PS3 and the dualshock 3 has been out for what, 3 months?
You're a douche-bag, man. Since when has engadget become exclusively a stupid fanboy/flame war battle ground?
You can't even spell dualshock and you're calling me a retard? (Never mind the PC of your statement, that's a whole other rant)
I'm here to electronically gather news about gadgets, and comment on them. Why are you here? Seriously dude, fuck off.
This is supposed to be a site where people learn things, but I guess you're still not learning anything, much less civility or intelligence.
Sora @ Jul 31st 2008 3:11PM
Ironically, you're turning it into MORE of a flame war by swearing at him so much. Also, they even said DualShock 3 in the title AND the article, so...joke's on you.

Also dude, if u owned a PS2, it was called Dualshock2. So really it hasn't been out for 3 months....
Correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't the PS3 controller been DS3 the whole time??
So in conclusion in your words "Seriously dude fuck off"

I challenge Robino to a spelling duel.
xValentine @ Jul 31st 2008 10:01PM
Your obviously starting a flame war. And you obviously know what DS3 means, it's just that you tend to bash the PS3 secretly.
DelayShock ? Delay Beyond ?
ScottishDan @ Jul 31st 2008 10:20PM
@Rick James:
No, PS3 controllers were SIXAXIS controllers and did not feature DualShock capabilities until early April (in the US).
This was most likely due to the court case (Immersion v Sony) preventing Sony from releasing the DS3 controllers until they came to an agreement and licenced the tech from Immersion
Scott @ Aug 1st 2008 1:43AM
@Dillon
No, THIS...IS...SPARTA!!!!!

. . . And so the sky's parted and the ground cracked and the heavens and hell merged and all life seized to exist.
psykoCommenter @ Jul 31st 2008 3:20PM
"seized to exist"...wtf...i'm thinking you're seizing something a little too hard there buddy.
Asa @ Jul 31st 2008 3:50PM
"And so the sky's parted" The sky's *what* parted? Spelled this way it implies possession. Should be skies. This implies more than one sky. How did you ever get a job without a high-school level understanding of the English language?
Pepsipoint @ Jul 31st 2008 4:22PM
before you mock this person, "sky's" is also like it's. Therefore sky is, and it is. not possession. the ' infers that there is a letter missing.
sinjinn @ Jul 31st 2008 4:39PM
also when reffering to the blah blah blah , you should blah blah blah , because it infers blah blah .
Pepsipoint @ Jul 31st 2008 5:36PM
wow. thoughtful addition to the post. You borrowed your younger brothers dictionary. Thank you.
phanbouy @ Jul 31st 2008 5:54PM
Moses parted your ass crack
phanbouy @ Jul 31st 2008 8:06PM
@pepsi
and so the SKY IS parted and the ground cracked?
bzzzt
fail
Blake @ Jul 31st 2008 8:51PM
Really, that's a elementary school level understanding...possession is one of the most basic concepts of grammar, yet it is an unbelievable flagrant and common error.
jamax @ Aug 1st 2008 2:12AM
umm. i think it's, "And so the sky has parted and the ground cracked and the heavens and hell merged and all life ceased to exist."
but then again it's hard to understand the relevance of your comment.
next time, remember to check the dictionary and an english text book. :)
Rage @ Jul 31st 2008 2:24PM
But but but all the 360 players who have played my PS3 claim their controller is superior
Ohh, I guess this is for when PS3 fanboys want to play a 360 and be able to cover it up in case someone walks in on them.
OfflinePK @ Jul 31st 2008 2:37PM
Personally I just find that the 360 controller conforms to your hand better. The dualshocks have always been kind of rigid you know?
Besides that I think the concave shape and position of the 360's thumb sticks allow for better control. The dual shocks are smooth and their position feel awkward when holding the controller but then again I have big hands...
Rage @ Jul 31st 2008 2:44PM
Yah, well personal preference I suppose, being used to either controller makes anything different seem a little weird, which is probably why I don't really like 360 controllers, but I am sure if I played the thing more often I would get used to it. Somehow a few hundred hours of COD4 on PS3 has me stuck on that controller.
blizz419 @ Jul 31st 2008 2:49PM
yea those analog sticks are what bug me the most about playstation controllers, if they just switched the d-pad and left analog it would of been a major improvement to there controllers.
Spedione @ Jul 31st 2008 3:01PM
If they did that, wouldn't it be a Nintendo GameCube controller, only black?
