Dell Vostro 2510 now configurable online

It looks like those already sold on Dell's slightly less business-like Vostro 2510 laptop don't have to wait too long to get their hands on one, as the just-leaked laptop is now configurable on Dell's website with an estimated ship time of 3 to 5 days. As we had heard, the base price starts at a reasonable $899, which includes a 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo T5670 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and a better than usual 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card. If that's not enough, you can push things up past the $2,000 mark pretty easily with a faster processor, a max 4GB of RAM, an Blu-ray drive, and other premium add-ons. Hit up the link below to get started.

That's kind of hot. Nice and slim-ish, if the reviews are good and the battery life/weight is decent, I'll consider adding it to my pile of possible purchases.

I would give anything for more of these 'A Day in the Life of ijyt' moments.

but noone needs a blu-ray drive if you have an internet connection.
ShadowKain @ Aug 1st 2008 10:48AM
@neofolklore
No one needs a Blu_ray drive? Sending HD over the net is not how most people do things. Wow, that comment just made me feel dumber for reading it. XD

No need. They set a course for their own destruction.
Corporate suicide, via laptop...
polvadis @ Jul 31st 2008 6:02PM
The configurations look pretty lame in my opinion. You can't just choose a BlueRay drive, it has to be a BlueRay writer for extra $500 bucks. No LED display... it's all very limiting for what could have been a nice notebook.
Wez @ Jul 31st 2008 6:02PM
I'm quite tempted to get one of these.
phanbouy @ Jul 31st 2008 6:08PM
I'm quite tempted to make fun of you.

Ahhh, a pretty notebook with subpar configuration options...must be a dell! And I'll probably be buying three before the end of the year!
HOORAY or something!
Homeboy @ Jul 31st 2008 6:22PM
So who is this laptop for? Although it's very attractive the options are very pricey and the standard service is very crappy for a business laptop.
Skyride @ Jul 31st 2008 6:22PM
I have a vostro 1400.
T7250
2GB RAM
Geforce 8400GS M
160GB HDD
So I dont see the point in this. Its just a 1510, but with a higher specced base model and red. Its even obviously the same chassis.

Welcome back to 2008
Rick @ Jul 31st 2008 6:37PM
As CarigJ mentions, the Vostro 2510 (and the Inspiron 1525) are the two notebooks on Dell's SB site that are not available with the M$ Vi$ta downgrade to XP Pro.
Bummer.
Mark Anderson @ Jul 31st 2008 6:52PM
So... why is that a bummer?
CraigJ @ Jul 31st 2008 7:57PM
@Mark,
Because Vista is a piece of shit.
Darth Abe @ Jul 31st 2008 8:10PM
@CraigJ
how so?
please refrain from mentioning UAC since (it takes fifteen fucking seconds to turn off) or problems that plague computers with less than 1.5Gb of RAM since this machine is clearly not one of them
roach @ Jul 31st 2008 8:43PM
@CraigJ
You then try MS new OS called Mohave.
CraigJ @ Jul 31st 2008 9:12PM
How so?
Firstly, I'm not your average stupid user. I've been using PCs since 1978, and professionally since 1987. I've used every MS operating system since DOS 3.31
I have a screaming system: Dual core, 256MB dual channel video card, 4GB RAM, dual 7200 RPM SATA 300 drives.
I turned UAC off, but now that you mention it, don't you think that having to turn off one of the highly touted features of an OS to get it to work properly is a bit of a problem? This is the problem with you Microsoft fanboys (or linux fanboys for that matter) All you have to do is... Yeah? All Microsoft has to do is build a decent fucking operating system.
Vista sucks primarily because it is so fucking slow, specifically copying files. Copying a 16GB file on disk (not network) takes 2.5 fucking hours. This is a task I do a coupple of times a week (copying VPC base images) I have SP1 and all patches installed. UAC, defender, etc are off.
To put that in perspective I can copy 60+ GB of data from my slow ass XP box to a fucking iPod in just about an hour.
Vista crashes about as much as XP ever did.
Vista is constantly churning the disk for no good reason.
The spinning blue ring is much in evidence.
Could I spend 2 days hacking the registry to fix some of this? I don't know. Maybe. Why should I have to?
I like XP. It's not perfect, but I like it fine. But frankly, I don't want to spend a whole fucking day reinstalling XP on a new system because Dell, or HP or Sony wouldn't load XP on it for me. I have work I need to do with the computer, not on it.
Back when I had more leisure time, I enjoyed screwing around with the OS. I just don't have that much time, (and no, the 20 to 30 minutes a day I spend on the Web for entertainment doesn't count, this is my "stay sane" time)
Microsoft fucked up big time with Vista. They know it, the media knows it. IT manages sure as hell know it. There is a reason why most businesses are not moving to Vista and can still get XP licenses. All I want is to be able to get the same. Microsoft should make XP widely available until Windows 7 ships. Hell they can charge what they charge for Vista Ultimate, I don't give a fuck.
XP just works. Vista is like shitting a watermelon. Some of you may enjoy that sensation. I do not.
dramamoose @ Aug 1st 2008 12:47PM
So what Craig means to say is.....
I know everything about computers.
I'm lazy.
XP rocks (and didn't have any release issues, etc.)

Ooh, and it comes with one of those defective nVidia graphics cards! Sweet.
WickedEast @ Aug 1st 2008 11:17AM
Why would nVidia still crank out new chips with a KNOWN defect? Of course, they wouldn't -- I don't think they are retards. The new stocks that are coming out of the production chain no longer have that overheating issue.
vexeuz @ Jul 31st 2008 11:13PM
nvidia 8400m overheats, dont even think about buying it.
