It has technically
been available for three weeks today (and a few hours in the US, but who's counting?), although we're confident quite a few of you are still waiting to actually hold your very own iPhone 3G. Still, those that have braved the excruciatingly
long lines and got lucky with AT&T's apparently random
Direct Fulfillment approach surely have something to say. We've already confirmed that firmware 2.0 has some
serious issues that need dealt with, and aside from elaborating on those, what else would you have done differently with Apple's second handset? Would you have changed the overall design more dramatically? Finally included a user-removable battery? Used a casing material that wouldn't crack
for no good reason under pressure? There's still time for your input to be heard before firmware 2.1 arrives (ahem, Apple?) -- sound off below!
UNLOCKED, come on apple, lets say (in the UK) its £99 on o2, how about £299 (tops) unlocked, you would make more money per device. I would NOT buy one on o2 (HATE o2!!) but would buy an unlocked one and slide my t-mobile flext SIM into it
Make it out of anodized aluminum! Also, make the data plan include 200 SMS messages. Also...
-Video Recording
-MMS
-Bluetooth teather
-iChat Mobile
-Front Facing Webcam
-To-Do by Apple
-To-Do and Note Syncing
-Haptic Feedback
-Better GPS
-Better Battery
-Landscape Keyboard
-GMail Push
-Voice Dialing
-Copy and Paste
Software wise - as most people say, copy / paste, create meetings... i'd also like to be able to forward text messages.
In terms of hardware....
http://blog.garryrenshall.co.uk/hardware-wishlist-for-3rd-generation-iphone
More internal storage (32gb would be nice)
5MP camera with auto focus and flash
video recording (30 fps ideally)
ooo forgot mms and better battery~
1. WVGA or higher resolution screen .. I want to sites like nytimes.com to display readably without having to sidescroll
2. front facing camera for video telephony (yeah & support video too)
3. better quality camera (improve it overall, not just raw megapixels)
4. Allow game controller snap-on accessories
5. Color LED flasher to notify when voicemails/missed calls or SMS's are there
6. Turn by turn navigation, support indoor GPS/mapping
7. Tethering
8. Improve 3D support (include a decent 3D chip)
Make it opensource, have several different guis, one based on gtk, another qt, and another based on enlightenment and qt. Usable on any network.etcetc
Some edges, switches and around display, are sharp and therefor do not have a quality feel. Very much like the Macbooks. I have not used it enough for any other comments.
It needs MMS!!! simple - the most advanced phone in the world and it doesn't have MMS and what AT&T provides as a replacement is a disgrace.
Some sort of extended notification of missed calls or sms. Even my junky old phone could beep every minute when I'd miss something!
What's up with all the camera and video requests? Do people actually think the cell phones take good video or pics? those are, in my opinion, the least of the necessary fixes or updates.
My 2¢
Faslane
To add to my previous list:
- Video recording
- Tethering
- Flash (although it'll never be good as it requires too much CPU)
- Copy/Paste
- Use Phone as Hard Drive
- Should come with a Dock
- Expansion Slot
- Keep app icons where they were before updating
- Stereo Bluetooth
- Support for Nike pedometer thingy that only works with Nano
- MMS
Does it have a touchscreen? If not, I don't want.
1. Brushed metal bezel and buttons
2. Matte, rubberized/soft-touch back
3. Slightly smaller
4. User-replaceable battery
5. A2DP
6. Tethering
7. Better camera (flash, more MP)
8. Cheaper data plan
9.
PROPER GPS!!
and :) NO-contract iphones for a normal price.. , apple-ish..
Searching through emails for keywords... or senders....
One simple thing that I've seen in other phones and not on here (nor have a seen anyone else request it) is having groups within your contacts. General vs Work vs Custom Field. Just another way to stay organized.
this already exists...not sure if you sync from a mac or not, but if you make groups in address book, it syncs those groups
copy and paste
removable battery
proper bluetooth
dedicated keyboard option
working firmware and mobile me
cheaper price
.

hell, apple just start over
i just would like better battery that and stronger charging power cause while tethering the phone still dies
better battery life
copy/paste
video capture
flash support
not very original I know... but there's a reason so many people want these things added: they should have been standard in the first place.
1. Copy & Paste
2. Video
3. Better WiFi support
4. Lotus Notes support (yeah, yeah, IBM is getting around to an expensive solution)
5. the ability to tap the icons at the top of the home screen (WiFi connection, Battery power) and get information.
make it not made by apple
1. Retain the original iPhone's $20 data plan with 200 SMS
2. Bluetooth support for the Apple Wireless Keyboard.
3. Editing support for iWork '08 documents
1. Bluetooth + A2DP
2. MMS
3. Better Speakers
4. Min. 5MP Camera w/ video recording capabilities
5. LED or Xenon Flash
6. Secondary VGA camera on front for video calls
7. Increased customizing
8. Landscape Keyboard
9. Better GPS software
10. Better battery life
Then the world will be a better place...
It's fine the way it is. What is it with the obsession for copy and paste? Are you anti-iPhone users unable to memorize anything more than 2 characters at a time?
Change it?, They should exit the phone and music business altogether and deal with Macintosh, Apple are slipping in this area.
I would like to see a Dual-Slim card on it. at least it wouldnt have those stupid contracts
They need better bluetooth support so those with cars that can sync phone book entries via bluetooth or need other handsfree features while in a car can use the iPhone.
They also need to allow video capture, after all this is the device that most of the youtube generation desires to have but yet it cannot even capture video, maybe this is because they knew that the lack of a memory card adaptor port would mean that people would fill their (limited) internal memory.
They "need" Adobe flash support if only to ensure that i can visit Hulu or youtube for video streams.
The email client needs improvement: create one inbox for multiple email accounts. It's a pain to have to navigate from one email account to another and then down two levels to the inbox, then back up two levels to get back to my list of email accounts, etc. Why can't it be like the desktop mail client?
Few things ,
1. Removable battery
2. Copy and Paste
3. Change the playlist. Delete and Rate songs from the playlist.
4. Ability to use it as a USB drive
5. Send/ files or pictures between iphones on bluetooth
6. Global shortcut actions ( to do specific things.... I dont want to go three menus deep every time ) or a shortcut icon which saves shortcuts to many places OR multiple actions i want to do. (for example a macro >> to switch off wifi/3g/bluetooth the same time and switch them on the same time or similar set of tasks)
7. A battery saving diagnostics app to let me know if some process is running in the background killing my battery.
8. An inbuilt contacts/Calender management in itunes.
9. Better and stable Itunes.
10. Auto timer option for airplane mode.(I sometimes forget to take off airplane mode when i get out my planeor from a meeting )
11. Mute games when the silent mode button is activated .
these are the things on the top of my head. Iphone is no way a finished product. It beats the competition even when its half baked i wish they would make it complete. The thing i want most is to delete songs and rate songs on the go.
Alright, I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, but it would be great to have a built in spell-checker while writing emails and texts. Sometimes, when deciding whether or not to write an email on the iPhone, I will choose the laptop because it can check my spelling, and I would rather wait to get home than be embarrassed (had to spell check that word... yep I suck) about my spelling skills.
Oh, and please: BETTER BATTERY LIFE! I can't even make it through the day, where as my colleagues with the previous iPhone can make it through at least two days.
I agree completely with respect to the spellcheck. If Apple wants to make inroads with enterprises, it should definitely consider this. Law firms in particular frown upon poorly drafter emails (which includes emails with spelling errors). While I personally don't have much of a problem writing them on the virtual keyboard, others contemplating buying the iphone think they may. When talking about people who depend on well written emails, the lack of spellcheck only compounds that problem. Well that and cute and paste (which I would use on a daily basis as an attorney). Oh, I almost forgot: turn by turn GPS and slingbox please.....
Price. Say all you want about how much it should cost. Too me, it's still way too expensive.
1) SVGA Video Camera please!
2) Zoom capability please!
3) "Open new tab" functionality in Safari please!
4) Ability to change black menu background please!
5) YouTube video quality optimized for 3G please!
6) 32GB model por favor!
Need a MSN and Yahoo messenger apps. And i'll be happy.
Removable battery
It's only been 3 weeks? Seems like 3 months ago.
Two words: carbon fiber. Why not have a JDM iPhone?
voice dialing.
Three things:
1. Flash enabled
2. Free Voice activated dialing that doesn't suck
3. TomTom Navigation (would pay around $40 for it)
- Bugfixes/crashfixes, possibly more aggressive memory management
- Ability for audio apps to run in background (like a phone call, just add a ribbon at the top) so you can still use other phone features while Pandora, Tuner, etc. are running
- MMS
- More bluetooth profiles - file exchange and contact exchange would be nice
- Fix the lag that occurs sometimes (possibly just performance/bugfixing/memory management mentioned above)
- Fix the bluetooth echo on the phone sometimes in a car
- Fix backup speed - it took over an hour and wasn't even halfway done, and I don't even have this thing halfway full!
- Fix bootup speed
- Fix sync speed (not too bad, but sometimes long)
- iTunes kinda sucks for app sync. Have to force it multiple times sometimes (both directions)
- Support Flash apps in Safari
- Get GPS more reliable without having to disable 3G etc. right now my GPS is spotty, my 3G is spotty, and EDGE is crap. at least 2/3rds of that is AT&T's fault though
- Battery life is a bit disappointing. I can only get about a day and I don't use it for much more than net apps and maybe 30 mins on the phone per day... and streaming music.
oh yeah. and get everything using push, so apps like AIM/twitter/other IM things and other notifications can be done in the background.
Technically it would probably be best if LBS was turned on, if it told Apple's central push servers your current location every so often so every single program didn't have to constantly work at trying to locate you. Sure, have it still prompt, but then your location will be cached as of every minute or two so it would save a hell of a lot of random GPS oddities. Sometimes it shows me in California, sometimes in Louisiana, sometimes in Oregon (where I am at)...
More configurable alerts for e-mail, SMS, and voice mail, including some option for persistent alerts (don't stop beeping until I acknowledge the alert)
Option to automatically check IMAP mailboxes besides the inbox
2 Things:
1) Adding contacts to meetings
2) Cut/Paste
how about mobile bootcamp to run windows mobile also I know windows mobile sucks to all but they do have some good apps that are free and who knows maybe it would run a little better on iphone ok flame away
LED indicator -- customizable with different colors for Call, Text, E-mail, Voicemail, IM, etc.
I stood on line for the iPhone for 6 hours the day it came out with my g/f. We returned it last friday for a red Blackberry Curve. The iPhone has some brilliant ideas in terms of the app store, but the push email wasn't as fast as it was supposed to be. There was no mm mesaging, (my g/f had a tmobile phone with no internet) no copy and paste. But most importantly, is the disturbingly short battery life. I had to recharge it twice a day while I was using it. I made maybe 3 to 4 calls, didn't use the media player, and didn't really use the gps. If you have 3g and wifi on it just sits there and drains its battery. What's the point of the phone if you can't use any of its functions? I like the phone, great ideas, just very poor execution. For a cell phone, form just can't supersede function.
If i was in the position to change the iPhone I would release the software under a GPL like license, and ask users what they want more on it using Online polls and such. I would also allow more phone services.
- Make it available unlocked for $399/499
- Better reception
- Better camera (2 megapix is fine): auto-focus, macro, proper shutter button, flash (LED is fine)
- Video recording
- Full Bluetooth stack: A2DP, ObEx sync & transfer, DUN
- MMS
- Add a setting for EDGE/3G/Auto (instead of just 3G on/off)
For an example of why 2 megapix is fine (with auto-focus, macro, proper shutter button): http://tnkgrl.wordpress.com/2008/06/14/lg-vu-camera/
