Intel's Nehalem-based laptop platform to be called "Calpella"

Intel's barely out the door with Centrino 2, but those in the know are already getting ready for Nehalem -- so get used to hearing the "Calpella" codename a lot more, since it's apparently what Intel is calling its next laptop platform. In addition to supporting WiMAX in addition to b/g/n WiFi, the new chipset rearranges things from Intel's typical package, with the memory controller moving onto the CPU and a new integrated chipset called Ibex Peak-M handling many other duties. Like all processor / chipset roadmaps, this one is definitely still in flux -- and it's a Digitimes rumor, so expect things to significantly change by the time the first Nehalem laptops hit the street in the second half of 2009.[Via The Inquirer]

To paraphrase the rest, it's somewhere between Mt. Nowhere and the village of Bumblefuck.
Mendocino, incidentally, is also a codename for a gen2 mobile celeron.

Integrated memory controller? Thats so 2003. Its funny how the underdog constantly leads the x86 industry in innovation. At least for the last past decade. Intel needs to stop leaching ideas and do something innovative beyond providing slightly better performance.
I see it as a step forward in the direction of the "Computer on a chip" model. Credit where credit is due.
Uh, the name 'Calpella' has been know for like months now, this isn't any news at all...

Wait, we're not getting Nehalem laptops until 2H09?? WTF that's like FOREVER when the desktop chip is supposed to launch in what October?
That what happens when AMD cant keep up, Intel has no reason to push full steam ahead.

Does this mean it will lack a northbridge? Aka (MCH)? As far as I know the northbridge is responsible for fast-interfacin the memory to the CPU via hi-speed Bus. Hmmm..
It should lack a NB, just like AMD boards do.
