Lenovo's 8.9-inch S9 netbook is not for you
We mentioned it briefly the other day, but just so we're clear: Lenovo's S10 (pictured) won't be alone this fall. The company is also pushing out an 8.9-inch version for a few non-US markets, and dubbing it the S9. According to Digitimes, the S9 will be running an 8GB SSD instead of the 80GB HDD of its big brother, but specs otherwise will be pretty much the same. The laptop should retail for 12,900 Taiwan dollars, about $420 US (though we can't really rely on a straight exchange rate for this), but a decent bit cheaper than the 17,900 Taiwan dollar S10.

"$420 US"
So you mean they will pay us $500 to take it off their hands?
Stupid comment, great picture.
I like the specs of both the S10 and S9 (which we won't get) and the price is reasonable unlike the ever increasing price of the eeePC models... but... why does it have to be so ugly? Most of the Lenovo machines look nice, why is this one so dull?
I hate the way Lenovo's laptops look. The U series was their only good looking laptop in my opinion, but this netbook looks good as well.
Because you're paying less, you stingy bastard.
a bastard in a basket?
i know that movie too that's from there will be blood! you took bastard from the other comment and made it sound like the quote it made me think of the movie, saw it in theaters too
Because Apple made money marketing the same look.
I R SOO SARCASTIC
I'm phanbouy's biggest fan, so piss off you stalker bitches.
I think it looks nice and streamlined.
LOL! "Phanbouy fan" is pretty damn good. Sadly it isn't me, but let me tell you if he starts a club, SIGN ME UP. Lowest Ranked, you can join too.
And phanbouy... come on. A fan account of the fan account? Let's exercise some creativity here. That's a little over the top.
Puberty can make people do crazy things...
I was actually just thinking that this was the first non-dull looking product that Lenovo has ever designed.
yeah, you show him pochi! phanbouy totally ruined your joke the other day, so keep calling him immature. three cheers for mob mentality!
phanbouy is his own fan and his own fan fan.
It may not be for you, but it is for me (if it has a frookin pointing stick).
I'm pretty sure the S9 will share the same chassis with the S10, just a bigger bezel so no thanks.
Same with the MSI Wind, the 9" version we don't get is just the 10" with bigger bezel.
Yep, that's emphasised in the DigiTimes article. A pity as Lenovo could have released the S9 with a smaller chassis, bazel, etc...
I hate bezels too.
This one actually looks good (in appearance).
You aren't going to sell it to me? Well fine... I didn't want it anyway...
*Walks away muttering with hands in pockets looking at the ground*
in before my stalker/pochi comments
lolol haha i got you to acknowledge me! it sure is fun to wait around all day for you to comment so i put you in your place
They've been confirmed for the UK at £280 vs £319 for the S10 version. So for a decent proportion of the Engadget readership, yes, the S9 netbook is for you.
None of these are for me until someone releases a 8.9" netbook that's under £150, since in the US the Eee 900 is that price ($299)
No it isn't. It's $549, before tax. After tax it's closer to $600.
quite so. Paul Miller seems to think the only readers here are from the USA.
That keyboard looks awful though. You'd think Lenovo would know better than to play the old shove-the-cursors-up game but apparently not. This from a company which goes as far as providing a seperate ins/del/home/end/pgup/pgdn key cluster on its 12-inch machines.
dang, im going to be in taiwan till the 21st of august, but if release dates are correct, it wont be out till september. guess no purchase for me
is this better value than the wind. is it more expensive ?
I'd still take the s10 over the s9 just because of the screen size and hard-drive.
I really miss the classic IBM Thinkpad 701.
The only laptop that actually pack in a full size keyboard in a 10' machine.
$559.99 for this WIND
