Aigo P8860 MID surfaces in Windows XP colors
We've seen Aigo's flagship MID from just about any angle you could imagine, but now that the P8860 has started to ship, we're starting to see it freed from its Linux trappings and dressed up in a little bit of Windows XP. Video of just such harmony (or atrocity, if that's the way you see it) is after the break.

hmm it booted up pretty fast.
PS. I like the music in the video, can anyone give me a name of some artists or songs that are similar so that I can go and get it off of iTunes
The Dude @ Aug 8th 2008 2:19PM
No kidding that was like a 15 second boot.
And that music reminds me of an elevator, being put on hold on the phone, and ugh...Sex and the City's intro. Which reminds me of the horse-faced main character. I had the strange urge to mail her a carrot while listening to the music in that video.

I did hear a song that was similar to the one playing in this video but a slightly different rendition. I think it was put up by a Japanese or Chinese uploader but I can't read the name of the song. You can tell me if it does sound pretty much the same:

im fairly sure that was a speeded up bit of film to save you the agony of waiting through the boot
Jacob @ Aug 8th 2008 3:44PM
I know the song, Amanda by Aisha Duo. It's one of the sample songs in Vista.
Hotrod @ Aug 8th 2008 3:49PM
I might be wrong, but I think that song is by "The Modern Jazz Quartet"
Good luck!
Hotrod @ Aug 8th 2008 3:51PM
@Jacob
You're absolutely right! That's where I heard it.
Hamidxa @ Aug 8th 2008 1:59PM
Nice, lots of potential there.
I could definitely see myself buying one of those things if I could also use it as a phone, and I don't mean Skype.
John H. @ Aug 8th 2008 2:06PM
Can these things play RTS's? I'd love to play some Tiberian Sun on the go.
Tyler Ransom @ Aug 8th 2008 5:10PM
Probably could. If your in to private servers, I've created one that with a little more incentive would be willing to complete and release.

this is no shinny 3g iphone with 3g speeds on a 3g network. Fail.
Al @ Aug 8th 2008 3:00PM
I dunno about you but to me the fact it has HSDPA means 3G. Unless you are the type of person that needs HSUPA.
Nick @ Aug 8th 2008 3:10PM
No, this is not an iPhone, READ THE TITLE...
Yea so what, its an MID, doesn't even fit the phone category.
You sir, FAIL.. xD Don't try to be an Apple fan when it has nothing to do with it.. moron.
Cheers,
Nick

@ i-sheet jr,
How is it that the simplicity of OSX forces its users to be equally simple minded?
DChen @ Aug 8th 2008 7:43PM
no "i-sheep jr." YOU fail...
or more so, you HAVE failed...
camille.lambert @ Aug 8th 2008 8:50PM
Learn to spell "shinny"
When do you harness the power of the "3g dictionary of 3g speeds?"
CAHLITO @ Aug 8th 2008 2:17PM
damn, I love apple but you fanboys are out of control
Adrian Williams @ Aug 8th 2008 2:24PM
No SP but it loads faster than some people PCs whom I fix
phoenix @ Aug 8th 2008 3:25PM
Nice grammar...
On topic, this makes a LOT more sense than Vista
gylman @ Aug 8th 2008 3:04PM
Frankly, as a representative of the >90% of the world that has learned to co-exist with Windows, I would buy this in a heartbeat over some flavour-du-jour Linux for which I will have to spend weeks learning the basics and downloading semi-complete "public domain" homebrew software that is incompatible with all my other PCs at home and work.
Windows XP can be tuned and slimmed down into a reasonably useful mid-powered device like this. Vista cannot. And Linux remains unready for the unwashed masses, myself included.
Bring on the XP UMPCs. I'll be getting mine as soon as they are available
chickenator @ Aug 8th 2008 3:08PM
it doesn't look right with the XP.
at least put some skinning on it.
but the Midinux is already nice.
i-sheep jr. @ Aug 8th 2008 3:22PM
We zhould jo1n f0rc3s. I-sheep approved.

What the hell are you talking about, Clak works for engadget.
Ineed911 @ Aug 8th 2008 4:13PM
Steffen Jobbs - thanks for the link. Just when I thought nothing could be gayer than Clak's posts, you pulled through.
Steffen Jobbs @ Aug 8th 2008 7:00PM
You're welcome. I aim to please nobody.

You shouldn't be taking your frustration out on innocent forum members just because you got rolled by the Rickster and became his biyatch for life.
When the Rickster says he's never gonna give YOU up, he effing well means it.
My avatar once got Rickrolled and ran around smashing everything in sight. It took five pounds of bananas to cool him down. I hope you don't try to eat that many bananas at once.

The source writeup says they don't know who loaded XP on this thing, Aigo or a third party. That said, some of the hardware like the camera may not have drivers or supporting software for XP. (Didn't watch the video)
