The WOW-POW folks gave us our first taste of the
Kohjinsha SC3 on video, and now they're back with the
SX3KP06MA convertible "UMPC" (SX3 for short) in a full video review. We'll let you watch the 10 minute review at your leisure, but in summary they found the computer faster than its SC3 sibling, despite identical Atom chipsets, and are of course general fans of the DVD-RW drive, 1280 x 768 glossy screen and pretty much all things
Kohjinsha. Video is... wait for it... after the break.
[Thanks, Larry]
lol "wow-pow"
Convertible doesnt look half bad though. I'd hit it.
I've got mine on order from Conics. Just waiting for a tracking number.
Kid
it's great to see Kohjinsha have made access to the HDD very easy on this model, photos here: https://conics.net/sx3/
change that HDD for a SSD should be quite easy.
p.s. Kid, your SX3 should have shipped today (8th), if not it will be tomorrow (9th).
It is clocked at 1.33 mhz.
1.3 megapickle?
It seems kind of pointless to have SD and MicroSD.
Most MicroSD cards come with an SD adapter anyways.
The Sony Memory Stick Duo slot seems unnecessary too, but I guess those are more popular in Japan.
microSD could be used for the vista ready-boost, we will be testing this next week.
you could even install your alternative OS on the microSD :)
touch screen and hi res display is very nice. i wish my wind had that. but at the same time its twice the price.
dvd burner is pretty cool too
this actually look that bad. Vista included, actually this could well be my next purchase.
I expected the gfx to provide the lowest Vista subscore. It looks good all around and is probably as close to a full-fledged laptop solution you'll see in UMPC form.

For me the lack of GPS is a deal killer. I was looking for a UMPC to replace the now discontinued Asus R2E tablet.
Good grief! That little thing is insane! Talk about being in love ~
And that DVD-RW drive? That thing is almost as big as the computer!
Seems to have everything (love the extended battery - 5-6 hours worth of power (nice!)).
I'd like to see a fingerprint reader, WiFi-n, GPS, and a SIM card slot for WWAN access, but those aren't deal breakers. I'd also like to see an HDD with higher capacity or maybe with an SSD option - but I don't see why a person couldn't swap one in later on (I suppose an SSD would drive the price up too high since the computer is already at a bit of a premium). However, if anyone could additionally integrate those options I listed above into the SX3, Kohijinsha could.
Very nice unit, though. I've been looking for a netbook, and I just might have to buy one of these (even if it isn't "technically" considered a netbook).
For GPS, although that's not built in, there's an easy solution for that: http://www.freedominput.com/site/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=103 I've read this little keychain GPS unit performs very well (you just have to buy your own GPS software to go with it). I'd think this would make for an excellent, little GPS solution for this laptop.
I have to say, I don't like the keyboard on this thing. Not because it's smaller - that I can deal with. But I can't stand how they move certain keys around. The "@" and "+" symbols, and some punctuation, F keys, and other symbols have been moved to other keys than what we're used to (although maybe in Japan, that's how their keyboards often are).
The other thing I dont like about it is that there doesn't seem to be a right-hand "Shift" key (I didn't see one, anyway). That would make typing very awkward. That, combined with what I mentioned above, would demand that a person re-learn how to touch-type to a degree. Not sure if all that would be a deal-breaker, but it seems they could've done a much better job on the keyboard than that.
They need to make the unit a little wider and design the keyboard correctly - it's not as though anyone would mind them making the laptop a single inch wider to make room for a better keyboard (especially considering how small the laptop is already).
Nice! I think I'd actually prefer that over my HPtx1000z. I think I'll wait for it to get a USA release, though. :)

yeah, vye might have it in about 6 months... but by them kohjinsha will have something faster and cooler :) (does vye even have the SR8 yet?)
Vye = 9 month+ lag on any Kohjinsha model
I found somes others video from directfromjapan on youtube
Can someone please tell me what kind of touch screen this thing is packing?
Will it be able to sense different pressures for my photoshop needs? Will it jump the cursor when my hand touches it by mistake?
Yes Ray.
It seems a great tablet. I do a lot of Skype calls with my actual laptop that has not microphone build on it. It is really annoying as I sometimes forget to take the microphone with me. Can anybody explain to me why this type of tablets never have a build in microphone? This is the only point that stops me to buy it. So many great features and technology and it seems they don't know how to fit a microphone!!!
