Lenovo's IdeaPad S9 Lite gets a site, more specs, and discounted pricing... in Hong Kong
If you've been making a mess of the floor (you know, with drool) waiting for Lenovo's IdeaPad S9 netbook to come flying in your direction, here's a little something to further whet your appetite. A "Lite" version of the device appears to have gotten official pricing, specs, a site, and apparently a deal if you buy three at once (at least in Hong Kong). The diminutive laptop will feature that Intel N270 Atom CPU (at 1.6GHz) we've already heard about, an 8.9-inch SWVGA display, 512MB of RAM, a 4GB SSD, and will apparently utilize a Linux build. That last point is of note as this model was previously believed to be carrying around an install of Windows XP. The new literature also suggests that the S9 (and presumably the S10) will pack a multi-touch trackpad, and be available in white, red, or pink. The S9 Lite will be launched next month, and prices run from HKD 2,899 (about $371) for a single model down to HKD 1,933 ($247) if you pick up three at once. And hey, who doesn't need three small laptops?

Only crap that looks good, but really? Do you want something that size screen. Me, I like my 13.3 inch screen Vaio. But still these are nice computers.
Yes, for the umpteen time, yes, some of us DO want something of that screen size. All those "too small to be usable" posts are getting really tiring. How would you feel if people would constantly suggest that your 13.3 inch Vaio is not useful, and nothing smaller than a 17 inch screen will do?
"How would you feel if people would constantly suggest that your 13.3 inch Vaio is not useful, and nothing smaller than a 17 inch screen will do?"
Well...they would obviously be idiots. The logic there being that, if *I* have a 13.3" Vaio, obviously 13.3" is the optimum size, and Vaio is the best balance of price, performance, quality, and portability. I know because I have one, and whatever *I* have is by definition the best. And anyone buying or needing anything other than what I need or buy is NOT buying the best (regardless of how it meets their needs), and they are therefore fundamentally inferior.
*Narf!*
Yeah...I had a friend at one time who's definition the 'the best' just happened to always be whatever he personally owned or thought was cool. Some people just need EVERYONE around them to affirm their choice by choosing the same way or they feel insecure. Sad really. I didn't get it until high school but there are advantages to being an outcast. They can only throw you out once, and then you can do whatever you want without fear of penalty...
As for this latest introduction to the pantheon of netbooks...looks nice. Is it by any chance fanless ? That's the only thing really holding be back from upgrading from the Fujitsu P1120 to a netbook. The P1120 is basically silent but, while it's Transmeta CPU does everything I really want, a little more oomph would be nice...
And...maybe I have a drop of fanboy in me too, but I guess I'd really rather buy an AMD based netbook. I just seem to prefer supporting them for some reason (which is obviously NOT top end performance...). Bobcat's a ways off though...and there's no guaranty yet that it will run cool enough for fanless operation either.
Sigh...
honesty, did anyone read that?
I skipped to the last sentence of the first couple paragraphs, then read your post and laughed.
Wow... It says "Three for the price of two".
I love Hong Kong.
I'll take 1 for the price of 0
badass
As is clearly shown in the promo pic with people throwing up the horns. "Cheap laptops, fuck yeah! \m/ ^_^ \m/"
Now we just need the S10, in the states.
You may check out more in my blogs, but unfortunately the videos are in Chinese.

The rules and detail page (in Chinese) indicated that only the first 10 subscribers would get the 3 for 2 pricing deal.
Well spotted...
"是次獎賞名額有限,只限頭10組登記的LenovoClub會員可享2人價錢3人同享超值購物優惠。(只限指定型號)"
It also says "on specific model(s) only". That could mean just the cheaper model (S9) as well.
I'd take the s10 right away if it was available.
wow they are gonna have a rave party too for those who buy 3 S9s.
I'm actually looking at 3 A Ones right now...
Have you been living in a cave for the last past year?
Hey Josh, the actual line is called "IdeaPad Lite", as in the "Lite" bit goes with "IdeaPad". Just thought I should mention it as the other bloggers are copying the same mistake.
Can I have one please ?
When is this comming to the UK ?
I think we all here know about that. Thanks for letting us know what we already knew.
I think engadget already mentioned it many times before that Lenovo is a Chinese company, so I don't see anything wrong with that. Although being a Chinese company but they are totally different from other Chinese companies, they have their own standards, all their products are top notch, beat all other laptops in quality rankings and reliability. And plus so far I haven't seen them done anything wrong so we shouldn't discriminate.
and you forgot to mention that , not only does Lenovo help to keep the Thinkpad brand alive, it has done a wonderful job in enhancing it with new technology and features. Lenovo keeps giving us surprises everyday with new laptops with badass specs, X300, X301, W700, Ideapads line, and now these netbooks and loads of upcomming lineups.
If it helps any, I've heard that people felt the same way about Japanese products in the 60s, and now they're a symbol of quality.
Not that all countries' generally product quality inevitable gets better, but Chinese products so far have been.
Daniel: Umm... Up yours?
HKD 2,899 is a very good price for one of these type of laptops, I was looking today in Wan Chai and similar models, i.e. eepc 901, aspire one etc, all cost well over HKD 4000 which felt like too much to me.
