Sony gets official with PSP-3000
It's not like Sony could really keep this thing under wraps for much longer, but the company finally did the deed by announcing the PSP-3000 at the Leipzig Games Convention. The unit itself will look exactly like the PSP-2000, though it will feature an "improved screen that's better outside with no glare and a built-in mic." The juicy tidbits have yet to surface, but we are told to expect the new handheld in Europe for €199 ($291) on October 15th.

OMg Sony....what u doing?? U try to be like Nintendo or something...huh??
"sample" Gameboy, Advance, Micro, lite (or something like that) etc.....blah blah....WTF Sony!! U copy Nintendo...U moron...!!
Geez...( >....
Sorry but it will take more than a fancy new screen and a mic to convince me to upgrade from my PSP 1000. Nothing beats a homebrew-enabled PSP with Bookr, PSPTube, PSPWrite, PSPDA, PSPRadio, etc, and a nice folding targus keyboard that talks to the infra red port (discontinued from PSP 1000) so I can write things up on the train. Only some of the features mentioned in this thread would convince me to upgrade to a new model (2nd analog nub, better cpu, more memory, reverb, touchscreen, etc.). The build quality of the 1000 was great as well - I've lost count of the number of times I've dropped it.
Quite frankly, this is just a revision. The Nintendo DS Lite didn't get any major new features when compared to the first gen one (I actually liked the first gen better, but only for aesthetic reasons). I'm quite sure that this isn't really meant to make people who already own a PSP to go out and buy another. The main purpose of this revision was most likely intended to entice people who don't own a PSP to buy one.
Also, if they were to add a touch screen and a second analog stick, then it would be an entirely new product, as newer games would be incompatible with older PSPs. What they did with the PSP is good: Take the current features and make them better and more efficient. Now they just have to fix homebrew and many more people will be happy.
I have come to the conclusion that the song people are in a dark cave somewhere
It's amazing how many people are asking for new features in the psp like dual analog sticks, a keyboard functionality of phone capabilities. People should have in mind that the psp is a handheld gaming device and it should be kept like that, if not i would just became som sort of pda or another typethat now impements more movement and involvement from the gamer, therefore the nintendo ds has that touchscreen and games like wario, etc.
The psp and play station 3 have revolutionized also in their own ways, and they have becme more like a "gamer oriented" entertainment system with music capabilities, internet acces etc... whereas the xbox is also oriented to the games aspect but a stronger inclination towards the "entertainment system" concept.
That's why the psp should continue being what it is, i it had a touch screen then it would feel nintendo-ish. Although a second joystick and maybe a rumble function wouldnt be too bad, what would happen with older games that dont include theese features? there prices would probably go down... and sony and it's investors wouldn't want that
i really wish this psp can be hacked and be able to run a 1.50 kernol addon and an inferred port. if it had all of those i would buy it and sell the first psp that i have wich is still the best out now.
to greg:
micro sd huh? well being a fellow cheapo i learnt a trick or two. you know the m2 cards they use for mobile phones? the small ones? you can buy an 8gb one for nearly $60 cheaper than the official sony one. and it works EXACTLY the same. all you need is an m2 adapter which should come with an m2 card. cheap n effective way for memmory. a 2gb card is only $15 this way too :P
They should make it touch screen I love they rest.
I'm not gonna buy the slim cause its not so different..It's really cheap though.
I bought my first black one the second day it was released for $500 so it was alot more expensive than these.
I'm sticking to my white psp-1000 for now.
The white one was cheaper but, not that much I got it a week later for $350.
Who cares about "all" this crap.
Where the hell are the Dual analog sticks?
FPS's are the largest genre in gaming, and you cant (properly) have a FPS with one stick.
Sony's missing out on a huge portion of the market.
Have fun sticking a PSP to the side of your face.
okay well admittedly the slim's build quality left me a bit disappointed at first but the light leakage isn't that hard too ignore and once you get comfortable with it, you don't feel like it's too fragile. i love my slim a lot and now when i hold the phat, i feel so weird because the d-pad is so much less responsive and it feels like you're holding a brick.
but here's the point. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT. sony is just providing new customers with better options. did they force anyone to buy the slim? no. they just put it out there for any people who were interested.
touch screen and dual analog sticks? that's not a psp. this is just a model refresh. not a new console altogether. just ignore the damn thing if you don't want to buy it. i personally know a lot of people who have finally decided to get a psp because of this. so there's no need to complain people!
when will the PSP 300 be launched ?
and what about the games like GTA ??? are they launched on PSP also ? (the new versions like san andreases or vice city stories)
and will the games of the old PSP work on the new one !
SORRY I AM VERY FRESH TO THIS
i was going to buy this PSP but i think i would wait for the new one !
I don't care about the 2nd analog joystick, what the PSP needs is a better single analog joystick. Make it longer throw and a little firmer.
A faster CPU and more RAM would make web serving better even if they had to throttle back for game compatability. As it is now some sites take forever to load and many run it out of memory. When I websurf I have to limit myself to sites I know from experience will work.
Being able to use SD cards as well would be great but I don't think that Sony would abandon their propriatary memory and the revenues (when has Sony ever done anything like this?).
Who in their right mind uses a PSP as a MP3 player? This thing is huge! Playing games or watching videos it is fine (can't relaly make it any smaller for this purpose) but for MP3s get a little player.
Sons of Nippon get it for $180....I love my original 1.52....i really want a keyboard interface. that would be bitchin'....
Things I want in the new PSP:
confirmed 802.11g wifi support, or implement N
more RAM
slot loading UMD
improved internet browser
improved battery life
Things needed in the PSP,
WiFi 802.11 G support
2nd nub for first person shooters,
More RAM for the web browser
Maybe a lil more room on the thumb sticks as playing for hours really hurts on FPS
a touch screen would be nice but wouldn't be used fully and plus it'll probably turn down the DS path with crappy animal games xD
Other then that I'll stick with my PSP Slim till they improve the PSP
ummm...
cool (?)
the new psp should have a hard drive,
like a 30GB one or 20GB.
sorta like an iPod
so we could hack it and put in tons of games!
(yey!)
lol
It should have bluetooth compatibility so you can use a bluetooth handset when you're talking.
yeah.. Sony knows about the second nub... oh yes yes they do.. dont you guys worry your pretty lil heads.. and i have heard down thru the grapevine.. i.e. magazine editor... that sony is designing a psp with DUAL ANALOG STICKS.... but heres the catch... sony will put out as little as possible for as long as possible until sales get so utterly low that the only thing to save the psp is to release the P2PSP. which will include mic support.. a heftier wifi compatibility. the second stick as well as a newer hack preventor. which will keep all you lil level 1337 superhaxxors to stew in ur own cfw juices... the new psp will apparently be booting up directly from a umd. so if u dont have a disc.. you dont get to run iso cso no more... so at the advent of the GLORIOUS SECOND STICK.... you lose all homebrew and iso cso compatibility... sorry guys. PHUCK U SONY.. but man. those pictures look good.
no matter how hard "they" try to prevent hacking/piracy the more and more easier it seems to become. i.e. PSP after it was first hacked eventually newer psp's would get bricked on a bad hack and then what happens ? those same psp's can now be unbricked.
same thing happens with software and movies and such. there is always going to be some people out there that will do it.
I wish I could connect my psp to a keyboard or I could use touchscreen as a keyboard. Is that all too much to ask?
And perhaps reading a pdf on my nice screen would be good. Phone screens are way too small for reading.
ummmm..like do SONY has plans to make ports for classic PS1/PS2 games to PSP? i mean there are a lot of good games made for the former consoles that's nice to play with every once in a while...well, just asking here...:D...
When will they give it a touchscreen like the Nintendo DS has ?
Would be a great feature. They only give it minor changes. And
often these changes are to prevent you from running homebrew
software. (like I use MapThis for navigation).
I hope they put another analog stick on the right next time. It's hard playing Tenchu and other similar games...
Who would want a touch screen anyways? Not like its backwards compatible or anything. 2 x Analogue sticks is the same thing. By adding these things, they have to release 2 versions of every game. Not likely I think. the PSP not having dual analogue sticks and a touchscreen were design faults from day dot. They would have to delete the "PSP" and make something completely different to fix it now.
Sony should have scrapped the UMD and went with optional 30 - 200 gb laptop hard drives, as well as built in wifi and camera. Maybe they could have added software for making the psp act as a wireless AP / usb wifi adapter. Give it a usb port, and scrap the mem stick...
does anybody know if it will be compadible with the pandora baterry
can u put m33 on it
Seeing it's not even out yet, why don't you send an email to Sony and ask? I'm sure they would be more than happy to accommodate you ~_^
my psp-3000 plus MY DREAM features
1-sim card for calls shud hav quadband,3G,hsdpa3.5G- so we can use it as phone as well but i dont think they hv any plans i guess
2-bluetooth so that many bluetooth enabled devices can b connected like keyboard, cam, laptop etc so that wireless transfer of files can be done and also if it has feature 1 thn a bluetooth headset to make n recieve calls cool na,or else use ur 3g phone to connect psp for internet at 3g speeds so connected all the time
3-RealPlayer media player so that many formats r played
4-attached dual cam/one cam(Carl Zeiss Optics: Tessar™ lens)--for video calls atleast one cam 3MP
5-FMradio
6-GPS
psp-4000 if it has these features i guess it will break all records all over world
I'm thinking of returning my Sony Walkman for this. I really want it once it comes out.
Ya know that this is a load of bullshit, if you look hard enough, do a google serch and you should find a guide to put in a mic, some with inbuilt cameras even =D
adn some are evenc ompatible with the old PSP-1000 models....
and this wouldnt be the PSP-2001 model, my one is PSP-2002 and a friends is a PSP-2004!!
ok its kwl but who actally plays the psp outside anyway there is some gd and bad in this brighter screen kwl but less playing time that suck shit.
now the dumb shit ppl want added, a touch screen wtf y would u want a touch screen if u want one of those get a bloody ds or a ipod touch or the iphone.secound thumbstick dont be silly one is gd enough dont be a twat.Another bad thing is the battery the facted they give u the smaller battry is just cheap and where do u get the bigger battry from???
now the good stuff ppl want added and that sony have added, bluetooth great idea send songs and pictures view psp and mobile phones yes they defo need to do that the brighter screen really good idea but they need to give the bigger battery standard i think.
thats my veiw on the psp3000
Huh, everyone's talking about homebrew on their PSP 1000's. I have the Star Wars edition and I hacked it. My hacked PSP 2000 works just as well with homebrew as my brother's 1000. Anyway, why is everyone complaining about a 2nd joystick??? It would just get in the way of the X, Triangle, Circle, and Square buttons. You arleady have a D-pad and a joystick on there, they could bring the IR port back, that was actually kinda handy.
Have you tried to play any FPS games on the PSP? They're terrible, you can go left or down, but not both (at least, not easily). Plus, if you wanted to switch from looking bottom left to looking upper right, its even worse.
THE PSP ISNT MADE PROPERLY FOR FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS!!!
Besides, it wouldnt get in the way if it was made in the form of the current stick. You have no idea of how many times ive forgotten that stick was there, pressed on it and my car (in Ridge Racers) would start veering off to one side.
Not that everything in your post sucks though. I'd really love an infrared port on my PSP-2000. Perfect tool to turn TV's off, hahaha
i just got the d*a*m psp 2000 and 7 weeks later i hear about a 3000 i am so fuking bad at sony for these minor updates if they want 3000 to be cool put better graphics on this system put gta 4 on it put blue ray and hd . ps.....tell me when psp 9000 comes out
I know this wat the fuck is wrong with the @#$$#@!%@#!@ people who make stuff like this piece of shit
the psp ring on the back is thinner.....
BTW you can buy a Duo Pro adapter that uses SD...MicroSD cards. Ebay couple bucks....go figure. :)
What would you want a touch screen for on a PSP for? Oh I dont know, maybe it would make the web browsing easier. Simplify the GPS features......you know the one Sony in introducing in the US in about 6 mo, I think December 08 for Japan. Oh yea the on scfreen keyboard...yea that would be easier. But thats just my crazy thinking...I could be wrong.
Bluetooth. on the fence on this one.....Bluetooth head phones maybe, file transferrs eh.
Yea IR port...thats what we need.....need a new remote lol
Can someone help me please?
I want to buy my partner a PSP for xmas as I know this what he wants. I was going to buy the slim and lite but then just saw an advert for the 3000.
Can someone tell me what the difference is and what one is the better one to get please.
Your help would be much appreciated.
they should all those people that have a psp 2000 trade them in for the psp 3000 cuz i hate it when i cant take my psp outside in the sun without getting that crappy glare!! i hate it!!! and microphone thats built is sounds pretty sweet when making skype phone calls. no more buying the separate accesorries.

sony is becoming just like stupid apple! making new and newer products, while trading for crappier and crappier durability!
AAHAGAHGAHGHGAHGAGAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
