Crapgadget: Special Olympics edition

Can't fly to Beijing? No problem, USB Geek is your one-stop shop for unlicensed Olympic dumpster-fillers. The Birds Nest Speaker features a USB port for charging and/or accepting music input via that included 3.5-mm adapter cable. $12 is all it takes to help keep Wall-E in service for years to come.

The Olympics or the Special Olympics?
gad get @ Aug 21st 2008 5:49AM
Just what it says: "Special Olympics edition." Seems clear as mud to me.
Intrepid @ Aug 21st 2008 6:17AM
Yeah although it reads like it, I don't think they mean the Special Olympics.
Meng Bomin @ Aug 21st 2008 6:44AM
It's a double entendre.
ethana2 @ Aug 21st 2008 6:52AM
How can you /not/? You'd have to /be/ special to miss that.
Chad @ Aug 21st 2008 7:45AM
Since "edition" is not capitalized, they have to mean "Special Olympics".
BowserUSC @ Aug 21st 2008 5:39AM
Does anyone else think the birds nest looks like a bedpan?
Chad @ Aug 21st 2008 7:47AM
Ya, it could hold one big shit and a lot of piss.
Tom G @ Aug 21st 2008 12:09PM
They come in a more powerful form for cheaper here: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12392
Wow!
arbert @ Aug 21st 2008 5:42AM
.000032 men were killed in the manufacturing of this product.
Mustaine @ Aug 21st 2008 5:47AM
The design would make a better ashtray, glass with pewter banding. Probably already been done.
j_g_puff @ Aug 21st 2008 7:03AM
It could also be effectively recycled into birdsnest headphones. Just sell them as a pair with an olympic-grade sweatband and voila! Now you can wear yo' passion on yo' head!
BratPAQ @ Aug 21st 2008 9:49AM
you just gave me an idea for a USB device! a USB ashtray, when you put your cigarette in it, it will monitor in percent how much cigarette left "50% cigarette left" and it can monitor up to 4 cigarette (4 cigarette slot).
John @ Aug 21st 2008 5:47AM
Is that an eee pc?
John @ Aug 21st 2008 5:51AM
Either way, isn't the green socket for audio out?
So it's a speaker hooked up the pink (mic) socket?
Photo's by people who don't know what they're doing!
meilon @ Aug 21st 2008 6:02AM
@John: Your right! There are so many funny pictures which should show a daily picture - and some things just don't fit :D
Johnnyboy @ Aug 21st 2008 6:40AM
That is, indeed, am Eee PC.
pundit @ Aug 21st 2008 8:28AM
Spelling, by people who don't know what they're doing.
I find photos like this amusing.
TRU3 L3GEND @ Aug 21st 2008 6:00AM
The special Olympics weren't in Beijing, but the Paralympics will be in September.....
Ry @ Aug 21st 2008 6:21AM
@ John
Your concern that they've not showed this bag of ***** in it's best light makes me chuckle
)law( @ Aug 21st 2008 6:51AM
wonder if it comes loaded with the avian flu virus for computers
Meltz @ Aug 21st 2008 8:09AM
so....why does it need charging?
inteller @ Aug 21st 2008 8:53AM
Every time you swipe your finger, another dissident gets shot in the head. Brilliant!
jupiterthunder @ Aug 21st 2008 12:46PM
did you read?
JAx2000 @ Aug 21st 2008 8:54AM
Wow, what a combo. It's Ugly, likely Made In China, Unlicensed by China, it's crap, and I can waste $12 in order to keep Wall-E employed. How can I resist!!!
JAx2000 @ Aug 21st 2008 8:55AM
OH Boy, i hope it's got lead too!!!
iHoppipolla @ Aug 21st 2008 9:37AM
Silly Engadget readers.
The usage of "Special Olympics" comes from the Daily Show's coverage of the Beijing Olympics...
A clip:

dvsbstrd @ Aug 21st 2008 10:16AM
*sigh*
I remember when Jon Stewart was funny.
Jason @ Aug 21st 2008 10:56AM
iHoppipolla, thanks for the clarification. I'm comforted that Ricker isn't just some asshole making fun of something by indirectly making fun of handicapped people.
It's much better for me that he's just copying someone else who did that already.
NHAnimator @ Aug 21st 2008 11:05AM
Why didn't they make it gold-colored? Silver seems kinda second-placish. -placeish?
Todd @ Aug 21st 2008 11:35AM
Dude... it's not cool to take pot shots at the Special Olympics like that... I have family that is disabled, and I do a lot of volunteer work for that organization.
gavinovz @ Aug 21st 2008 12:45PM
Its like I am really there!
Brandon @ Aug 21st 2008 2:47PM
Is it just me, or is it plugged into the mic plug, not the audio...
redleader158 @ Aug 21st 2008 10:54PM
Guys, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Let me explain how you people all wrong about China and are racists. (you might think I just contradicted myself, but im just stating the truth)
1) The Bird's Nest was not used for the Special Olympics.
2) "Special" refers to "Special Edition", just like all your NASCAR K-mart crap.
3) The U.S. doesn't have a stadium nearly as cool as the Bird's Nest and ever will.
4) China does not slaughter people as you think. If you could afford the plane ticket, you would know.
5) China has not killed anyone in Tibet. Asking for a free Tibet is like asking for a free California.
6) China accounts for about 75% of the manufactured U.S. goods. If they don't give you your "shit" like you want them to, the U.S. economy will completely colapse, leaving more homeless people like you guys.
7) China was not responsible for the lead-based paint incedent. Mattel told the factories to use the paint. And 3 incedents of stupid kids eating their toys is not as bad as using 2 nukes (the ONLY used in warefare in history) and using chemical warfare (same thing)
8) It really isn't cool to make fun of the disabled
Scott @ Aug 22nd 2008 12:19AM
Nah, China doesn't slaughter people, they just send them to "reeducation through labor" camps.. even if they're 70 year old ladies (http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/08/20/asia/protest.php)
