Upscaling iPod dock lets custom installers add high-definition iPod playback to home integration networks
DENVER – High-definition is coming to the award-winning DLO HomeDock PRO with the unveiling of HomeDock HD PRO - the all-new on-TV entertainment dock lets custom installers integrate iPod functionality into home installations, letting customers view, select and enjoy iPod content directly on their HDTV. With HD upscaling technology and industry-standard connectivity, the HomeDock HD PRO is changing the way customers enjoy their home entertainment systems. The new HomeDock HD PRO will be shown in the DLO/Philips booth at CEDIA Expo in Denver (Booth #516), September 4-7, 2008.
Shipping in fall 2008, the HomeDock HD PRO upconverts iPod video to 1080i or 720p through an HDMI connection. With its optical digital audio output users are ensured a completely digital iPod experience. And, with both the industry standard connectivity (RS-232) and I.P., the HomeDock HD PRO makes it simple to give your customers exactly what they've been asking for - a seamless integration of their iPod into their custom home entertainment system with an easy to use graphical interface.
In addition to providing superior audio and video output, the new HomeDock HD PRO also features an HDMI extension, enabling connectivity of HDMI devices at shorter distances. The HomeDock HD PRO also includes IR output to enable integration with universal remote controls. Additionally, the enhanced on-TV interface of the HomeDock HD features album art in an icon-based visual flow format for an exceptional user experience.

I am curious to know why for that price someone wouldn't simply buy an apple TV? This product as a category simply makes no sense to me whatsoever.
I dont know much about Apple TV, but can you get 1080i from it and is there optical out? I seem to remember something quirky about AppleTV's HD stuff.
SlavKO,
I have an AppleTV, and yes, it can run 720p or 1080i. I usually run mine in 1080i, and it's great. I use a Miglia HD Tuner with EyeTV as a DVR on my Mac-mini. EyeTV converts it's raw format to mp4 and places it in iTunes automatically, and even though the files have some compression on them, it looks far better than any upconverted video from the 320x240 resolution of the videos I had on the iPod before I bought the AppleTV.
I found upconverted video to be almost unwatchable when I did that from iPod video to 720p. I also had the original DLO HomeDock a few years ago. I returned it, because for $150, it didn't provide much more functionality than the $20 AV cable the Apple sells for the iPod, and the video quality was sub-par at best.
@SlavKO
how about you use your internet skillz to find out information on your own....

Your a lazy sack of grundle.
... nice. The HomeDock HD still isn't shipping - why they are announcing a new model before the old one is even available is beyond me.
$400 for a dock !!! A Mac mini would cost almost the same !
As would two equivalent notebooks!
It's iPremium for products like this, once its catered for the iPod there is a price premium for it.
What content would you possibly have on your iPod that'd you want to pay $400 to upscale?
What else? Porn.
Yummy. Can't wait to see how 320x200 podcasts look upscaled on a Panasonic 100inch plasma.
For $400, this thing should be upscaling to 1080p and WiFi sync back to my computer.
This is more expensive than Apple TV, and Apple TV does do 1080i or 720p, so yea, don't see the point here. Plus Apple TV has all that other functionality of YouTube, buying/renting movies right on the TV, etc.
Yes - I have the AppleTV and love it. It actually does 1080p to devices that support it. Only 1080p60 though - no 1080p24. However it can only handle native video formats in 720p or lower. This DLO dock is for people that don't understand technology and have a lot of money.
this is like Jumbo shrimp.....
So lets go down the boxes
- Doesn't have any form of display, buttons or remote to go with it - Check
- Does the equivalent job of what a HDMI cable could/would do - Check
- Is priced horrendously - Check
- Can't use any other mp3 player or PMP / HD device for that matter, only iPod - Check
- Provides no extra features or added functionality to the iPod or TV aside from cover-flow - Check
Looks good boys, get shipping.
And it doesn't take Iphone or Ipod touch.
'couldn't' care less...
I'm with miliday,
I prefer the appleTV. I can sync all my music to it just like an iPod, along with movies or whatever.
I can even stream from another iTunes on the network.
My only iPod is my iPhone now, and I wouldn't want to have to dock it to play music, then get a call...weird.
The AppleTV is just too cool for this type of stuff.
Your television will upscale video from the standard dock, there's no need for an external upscaler unless it's a Silicon Optix Reon or equivalent video processor. Most upscaling devices are just hype and marketing for people who don't know their television already has a scaler built in.
@ Evan,
Not every TV has a good scaler built in... My Philips defiantely doesn't!
"evidently it could care less"
So if they could care less why mention it? Now if they could not care less maybe you'd have something.
