Samsung's SpinPoint N2 drive gets a glossy black case
Samsung was pretty boastful about its high-capacity SpinPoint N2 1.8-inch drives when they launched back in June of 2007, and now the company's decided to show them off a bit -- check out this hot new credit-card-sized external model in glossy black with a flip-out USB connector. Specs are the same as before -- 4200rpm, 27MB/s read and 23MB/s write -- but sadly the most important spec is that it's China-only for now and pricing is in the stratosphere, with the 120GB version clocking in at RMB1999 ($293). Yeah, we'll stick with saving our pennies for an SSD.

Wow, I almost bought Generic Drive #32, but this has glossy case!
I'm waiting for non read only model to get released..
I see what you did there, Cap'n.
lol Quick somebody use that credit card number!
lol well the card isn't expired until November of '10, but the name is weird... Kinda like they used math notation for some letters, I can make out a Sigma on the card without the number, and maybe an angle sign on the other...
@ Paulmichael
I would wager that those are actually Chinese characters...
the form factor and black shiny exterior (which seems to be samsung's trademark these days) looks great.
What a great storage device for my porn.
But at 120GB?
I'm gonna need like 6 of these.
Man, that's a lot of Gay Porn you have...
Since 200 hours of porn is never enough...
"27MB/s read and 23MB/s read"
... Wut?
Its a 1.8" HDD (used in Ipods and Zunes for example) and runs at a relatively slow 4200rpm.
I've actually used this a few times and the casing is actually aluminum with a circular brushed texture.
I want to purchase this to use with my Macbook Air. Since you are supposedly "Samsung" could you get me 1-4 of these in 160GB. Ready to pay cash!
Nice. But very expencive!
27MB/s read and 23MB/s write ;)
Wtf? This is so darn expensive; far better off getting a ipod classic 160gb, with option to take the drive out or use it as storage medium directly.
Yeah, I thought about that too, but I've had some troubles making it creditcard sized, can you help me with that?
And a flash drive isnt? Or your wallet?
Or I could just go and buy a 160gb Ipod Classic for nearly the same price and partition it to 120gb and still have 40gb (before formatting) left of an Ipod.
Oh it has a shiny back too
Samsung never sold this kind of external hard disk drive.
