iPhone 3G vs. Sony's 40-inch ZX1 LCD television... Fight!

The estimated percentage of cellphones that were recycled in 2007.
The EPA estimated that of the 126.3 million cellphones disposed of in 2007, only 14 million -- about 10 percent -- were recycled. The rest? Landfill heaven. (source: EPA, July 2008)

iPhone 3G FTW!
One thing's for sure, if it's is a "Fight" for 3G signal strength, the iPhone 3G is definitely not going to win this battle....
If engadget has their way, soon the iPhone is going to be a standard unit of measurement.
*Drops pants*
Hmm, let's see... Oh man! No way!!
I mean, whats the point?
They could take a really thin phone for this, like some of the Motorola's or Samsung's and not a fat iPhone.....
Makes no sense.
iPhone is the king!
@CaramelZappa
Personally I try to stay out of the iPhone fray here, but I must risk life and limb to give credit where credit is do. Kudos.
Thanks for the laugh. I was getting ready to pound my skull in with my keyboard after reading the first few comments on the other articles.
@Swingin
" *Drops pants*
Hmm, let's see... Oh man! No way!!"
You just measured up against the iPhone 3G's 12.3mm... and lost?... wow........
The iPhone already is a standard of measurement. It's just a teeny bit faster than the measurement for the speed of light or a tad larger than the size of the universe. So far, no device has come close to it.
Now hold it up to the base....
"How bigs yours new plasma Frank?"
"11 iPhone long"
Death of the ruler 8/28/08
My *** is longer than my iphone.....
@ Marko
And both get no reception.
@ Marko
Your what? Your toenail? Your nose hairs? WHAT?
@Decoy
Classic.
Three letters... apparently a "bad" word... must be ass.
@Decoy
Best. Comment. Evar.
@Decoy
Hall of Fame...
yeah who remembers deutsche bag?? anybody???
Someone at Apple is getting fired for this...
Would be great if the iPhone actually got such a thin panel ;)
Though honestly, I don't know the thickness of the current panel used in the iPhone 3G.
Can't wait for these LCDs to become affordable and offer actual black colors ;)
o god engadget... even i have to say THIS IS LAME!!!
the teddy bear article & this? what is engaget coming to?
Meh, nano's still thinner.
I thought the system with inches, feet and whatever was stupid as compared to the SI-system, but I see a nightmare coming where say a person is measured as 15 iphones, 1 nano if he's 181 cm tall. Not only is it messy, but we also have to change base of measure each time a new ipod or iphone is released.
Engadget who cares?
In my opinion, anyone who takes the time to click the link, write in their login information and write a post cares, because otherwise, you have four methods of avoiding the post:
1. Scroll past it;
2. Alt + F4 or ⌘ + q ;
3. Click the button at the top left (or right) of your screen, it's marked with an 'x';
4. The big button on your computer works too. It closes all internet connections, and causes the screen to display a soothing, black picture.
There are four options to get you started.
5. post a comment say that you don't care
lame....
Gotta get the iPhone in anywhere you can, eh, Engadget? You just love taking advantage of the friction between iPhone fanboys and the rebellious ones who oppose them, by letting everyone just face off over the pointlessness of... where was I going with this? Oh yeah... I like chocolate!
Oh yeah... I was supposed to eat some chocolate a few minutes ago...
Pathetic.
iPhone fanboys vs Sony fanboys. LOL. Metrosexuals v Autosexuals. Hankies at the ready!
This isn't about iPhone versus Sony. This is about how disturbingly obsessed a news site has to be to start comparing a phone to a television, just to get another mention of said phone in a completely unrelated photo gallery of a television.
see that mode on your camera marked 'av'? select it, wiggle the jog wheel until it says 'f:18' or similar. then we might get more than 15mm of iphone\tv in focus.
ta
I was gonna say something along those lines as well. Little more DOF please. Oh, and turn down the ISO unless the lighting is really just that bad.
I usually dont mind all the iphone news, but seriously? WTF...
Seriously, does it really matter how thin the top is if it necessitates an inch thick base? plus, once a panel is under three or four inches thick, it might as well be "2 dimensional"; id rather engineers used the extra space for better performing, more efficient panels.
yes, but will it blend?
That depends on your mood, and whether there's a Blendtec blender nearby.
Yeah... this article is showing up on the no iPhone RSS and the no Apple RSS; it does not show up on the only iPhone RSS or the only Apple RSS... (I just checked). There's absolutely no point in involving the iPhone and Engadget is poisoning Apple and iPhone haters with this "news". Sure, go ahead and use the excuse that it's just a blog...
wow! Gotta love Sony engineering...
I'm going back to bed now.
Good night.
The TV has a box somewhere right?
Ah, TOP section! Ok, gotta learn to read.
"We knew Sony's new 40-inch Bravia Edge LED ZX1 was thin, 9.9-mm thin in fact (at least at the top section). But man, we didn't expect it to make the iPhone 3G slipping around the insides of our pockets look like such a chubster."
9.9mm is always 9.9mm, regardless of what you are measuring...
You couldn't just update the other article?
@Thomas Ricker
You sir are a fuc**in moron.
Finally, fair competition for the iPhone. I kidd, I kidd. Although, I wonder who would win in battery life?
iPhone 3G vs. Swiss Cheese
iPhone 3G vs. Red wine
iPhone 3G vs. The Bank of England
iPhone 3G vs. a bus
iPhone 3G vs. a Micheal Phelps
I can think of MUCh better things to compare all of these things too >.<
Seriously. When is it going to end?
I never wanted to believe it but this officially makes the engadget staff into fanbois.
This posting reminds me of being 8 years old and comparing lame christmas presents.
Winning the comparison didn't make either present any less lame...but it made the owners way lamer for trying!
Good job engadget. Too bad it's an original iPhone and not a 3g....
If your gonna make fluff then atleast get the details right.
Looks like a White 3G to me...
*facepalm*
Engadget, you might think this amusing reading the responses because you know its going to rile up some posters. The more you do this the more likely you are going to lose whatever credibility you've established as a blog. Quite frankly there are other tech blogs out there and they are going to come in and swoop your readership because of your lack of objectivity.
Go ahead laugh at my comment.
ahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahhahahahahahahahahah
iPhone v3 vs Chuck Norris.
I don't see the point of making thin tv screens of that size. It's not like you're gona be lugging it around much.
