Hey Texas Instruments, my new graphing calculator (2007) is more expensive than my friend's 1997 model of the same thing cost when new, and there is no difference in functionality! It costs more now for a worse calculator from them! What's going on????? Ahhh!
I refuse to use any new product (such as this projector) by TI until this crime against technology is rectified and they update their graphing calculators! For god's sake, it doesn't even have a back light! You could fit six iPod Touches into it, all of which can be used as graphing calculators! I don't understand!!!!!!
(If ANYONE understands how that makes sense, please tell me. For god's sake.)
Honestly I think they're just afraid of making the calculators look too advanced and getting torn down by schools. As long as they're old as dirt they're less suspected of cheating.
Or just as likely they know they'll sell either way so it doesn't matter...
But if you just stop and think- what is really in there do you think? Gears? Levers/pulley systems? I mean, it just seems that it is so big that it shouldn't even be able to survive on today's market, you know? Educational tools should, if anything, be more advanced than our other devices!
The children are our future, let them have good calculators.
My Stat 101 class required a TI-83, because it is the standard calculator (I hear you can even use it on the SAT?) I wasn't enthused about having to buy such an expensive device for a three-month use, but my ancient calc from the late 80's was unsuitable - not because it didn't perform the same stat functions, but because the whole learning process revolved around the concept that having all students use the same device made it much easier for the professor to show us what to do.
Like John Titor above, I quickly realized that an emulator for my iPaq was the perfect solution. I'm no math geek, but I sure made some kids jealous with my touch-screen... I suppose Apple has a TI-app for the Touch and Iphone, right?
I guess that it isn't surprising that you didn't know this, but nonetheless, Apple generally doesn't make apps. Sure they made the original apps (duh) and a couple of Apps Store apps, but they actually only 'have' less than 20 of the apps of the over 3,000 apps on the store.
Due to copyright laws, only Texas Instruments could make a TI app, and the one graphing calculator that there is for the iPhone/iPod Touch pretty much sucks.
I agree! What it going on!? My Grandpa said he bought Hershey's Chocolate bard for $.05, The EXACT same bar (2008 model) cost 15x that! $.75 for the Exact same bar, but it's actually fewer ounces!
This is outrageous! We must give a name to this phenomenon. I vote, "ballooning", no... "expanding" no... "Inflation"!
P.S. I absolutely refuse to buy the EXACT SAME gas that costs $5/gal, when the 1997 model only cost $1.28/gal
You are correct, that because I don't own an iPhone or Touch, I am not fully aware of what applications are available for it. It does make sense that an emulator would be available, because they have been available for WM for at least a few years (I had mine in 2005). I didn't mean to insinuate that Apple was the creator of the software applications that are available, just that they are available through Apple.
Basically, if you're complaining about the price/benefit ratio of the TI-83 vs modern electronics, and you ignored that emulators are available, then what are you complaining about - you needed the calc, and you had to pay the price. However, since you also admit that it was a hand-me-down, I really don't get your problem...
My problem is that I need a calculator that I can use on my SATs and college exams (mobile phones/other devices that emulate graphing calculators are not allowed), and I don't want to carry around a heavy outdated piece of equipment (not a TI-83, I have no idea where you get that idea from, I have a TI-89 Titanium).
Why are you guys defending them anyways? If Apple still sold iPods from 2001, and upped the price every year, you would be all over them! Or what if Dell was still producing and selling their 1998 Turbo PC? Technology from ten years ago is not acceptable by today's standards.
*my friend's TI-89 is from 1998, not 1997, but it is still 10 years old!
We would like to take a moment to thank you for your time in bringing this oversight to our attention. The Calculator devision frequently visits all forums postings about products that carry a component that TI makes (Delta makes this particular device, we supply the DLP).
As you have brought to our attention, you will no longer buy anything which contains TI components.
As we strive to be a company which keeps our word, we would like to officially invite you to never purchase, or use, any product which contains TI components In your words "(Such as this projector)". While it does sadden us that your refusal to buy this projector, which you no doubt we planning on buying, because of the outrageous price someone ELSE paid for your 2007 TI calculator, we will work to assist you in every way in boycotting TI.
As you no doubt already know, TI has a wide variety of products and technologies, which you are undoubtedly using at this very moment to connect to the internet with.
We would like to provide you with a "Medical Alert!" Bracelet so that you can alert and medical professional, should you find yourself in an emergency situation, to NOT use any TI products on your person. Such devices like defibrillators, X-Ray devices, MRI and Blood Pressure Monitors can be referenced here: http://focus.ti.com/apps/docs/appcategory.tsp?appId=270
We will begin immediately to rectify this "crime against technology". Once we have accomplished this goal, we will notify you, so that you can resume using and or buying (Or getting "handed down") TI products.
It sincerely pains us that the price your "hand me down" calculator cost has created such a burden for you.
In the mean time, we've discovered a place in which you would certainly be much more happy. Please make your way to Planet Unicorn and we will contact you the moment this crises has been handled. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQJD1ura7G4
2. As you have stated, you are not a TI representative. You are not an expert. You are not intelligent. You, my friend, are wasting almost as much of our (my?) time as yours.
3. If what you are saying is true (and I know it isn't), and I do not have any alternative but to use TI products, then they have a monopoly, which is illegal. Competition is what encourages progress and affordability, ergo they have come out with a new projector, but not even seen fit to add even so much as a back light to their overpriced, top of the line Ti-89 Titanium calculator!
4. I'll be happy to rebut any argument someone like you can come up with (a lying idiot) in future posts, thank you (not).
As your Daddy pointed out, you have poor spelling and grammar. And Since only TI Representatives are experts and intelligent, you clearly are neither.
If you would follow the links, you would realize that what I stated is certainly true. and if you would take a moment to read the title of this article you'll notice that THIS PROJECTOR IS NOT A TI PRODUCT! It's made by DELTA who uses a TI COMPONENT!
TI Didn't "come out with a new projector, but not even seen fit to add even so much as a back light to their overpriced, top of the line Ti-89 Titanium calculator!" DELTA came out with a new projector.
So Unless you are trying to get DELTA to make a Backlit TI-89 Calculator, you really need to shut up.
And as far as "You, my friend, are wasting almost as much of our (my?) time as yours." You need to reference the first post you made, in which you being your rant about a company which is NOT the manufacturer of the projector. TI Builds a PIECE of the projector, and you're ranting about you FREE calculator NOT made by DELTA. You began wasting everyone's time, (but in reality it's quite entertaining watching you make a total jackass out of yourself).
Building components that are contained in thousands of different products is hardly a monopoly. It's good business. There are hundreds, sometimes thousands of individual components inside every electronics device. Even the TI Calculator you so loathe has components from dozens of other companies inside. this synergistic approach to technology is what creates the devices we know and love.
The whole point of saying that by boycotting this projector, you would have to boycott thousands of electronic devices was to show you how utterly stupid your first post was, ranting about a calculator in a story about a DELTA brand Projector. The whole point of saying you'd have to boycott anything made with TI components was to use satire to point out how STUPID you are making yourself sound by not even being able to COMPREHEND how other companies use TI COMPONENTS to create their products.
Your logic is as follows if a=b and b=c then Q=r "I have a new 2007 calc = i didn't buy it idiot" and "Why on earth would you think it's a ti-83, It's a ti-89" We of course knew that it was a TI-89, cause you made that, amongst all your ranting, so clear, concise and obvious.
If I were you, I would be more worried about your stunning self-conscious need to have everything you say be approved and "highly ranked" stopping you from voicing an opinion that differs from the majority.
I guess some people just have issues...
@TI Calc Customer Service
Where exactly was my grammar as bad as yours you fricking retard? "which you no doubt we planning on buying," WTF was that even supposed to mean? You know what else, even if TI only supplies one part, that means that by purchasing one I would be supporting them and their monopolistic practices.
Also, I didn't misspell a single word, so I would love to know where you get off attacking my spelling abilities.
Oh, and my dearest and most beloved friend, I did not make fun of you for not knowing that which I had not said, but rather thinking you knew something that was not true (that I had a TI-83). I simply told you that you wrong, which you were, in assuming that I had a TI-83. How exactly did you come to that conclusion from my not saying anything about which calculator I had? Hmmmm?
Lastly, I never typed "I have a new 2007 calc = i didn't buy it idiot" or "Why on earth would you think it's a ti-83, It's a ti-89," I typed "three words: hand me down" and "not a TI-83, I have no idea where you get that idea from, I have a TI-89 Titanium".
For god's sake, learn how to copy and paste to quote instead of incorrectly paraphrasing you idiot, example:
"you're ranting about you FREE calculator" LOL!!! ('your' should have been where 'you' was, in case you weren't intelligent enough to catch that.)
“An engineer explained to us that hundreds of ear impressions were gathered in the name of research, and while each one obviously boasted its own unique shape and size, one single characteristic remained uniform across the board: the entrance into the ear canal is not a perfect circle, it's an oval.”

No, no I did not. Idiot. Didn't I just say that it was a ripoff? Why would I have bought that if I knew that? Hmmm?
Honestly I think they're just afraid of making the calculators look too advanced and getting torn down by schools. As long as they're old as dirt they're less suspected of cheating.

Don't call him an idiot, moron. Take a look at your first sentence. You don't try to refute or even imply that you didn't buy that calculator.

I just got the TI-86 (I preferred it to the 83) emulator for my PocketPC
