This Blu Ray argument is old already. Whoopy!!! Look how cool I am...I buy $30 dollar movies!
When I buy a car, I dont buy it because it can play movies and has a tv inside or has sexy cup holders. I buy it for the full package. XBOX 360 has all the games I want, a large online community (you get what you pay for). Blu Ray alone isnt selling it for me.
I must say though...$100 for a wireless adapter is Frikking CRAP!!! Yes, I do have that 30 footer cable from my router to my Living room tucked nicely against the walls. My wife simply loves it!
I'm still getting a PS3 for the fact that it plays BLUE RAY ;) thats $400.00 savings ;)
wow i cant believe i can get 3 red lights for 200 bucks! that sure is a hell of a deal :)
Technically speaking, yes. But only a god damn moron would buy the 360 Arcade.
well if anyone remembers it came out a year earlier, so it should be the cheapest one
Even with the add-ons necessary to make the Arcade model viable, the 360 still offers the most for your dollar on the current marketplace. XBL and all the retail games available for the 360 are worlds better than anything being pushed by Nintendo or Sony right now.
Mine had 2 red rings a few weeks ago. I had to buy a back up, so I went with an Arcade while my Pro is "out of town". I went to Target this morning and got my $84 back! Boo-yah!
Do all these models have HDMI now? May be reason alone to sell off my original 360 and get a more solidly built unit. If not maybe buy the Arcade, sell off the wired controller, sell the old sytem, swap the hard drive over, have a new system with HDMI That would work right?
You could say that they're ON FIRE!
@SteveJ: Well I'm in my twenties so whatever you are trying to say when I'm out of my "mature" years I'll be 40. I'm talking about games that doesn't feature speaking toy mushrooms and cutesey baby creatures. I don't know why people always associate mature games with violence, a Thriller movie doesn't have to be violent but it's still stuff that you can't find in a child themed environment. That's what I'm complaining about.
Nintendo games are not childish because they feature "feature speaking toy mushrooms," but because game play is too repetitive and has story you can attache yourself forced on top. Nintendo is firmly cemented in its SNES past, when games couldn't be very different due to technical reasons.
I have seen many mature games which have all sorts of "speaking toy mushrooms," yet can provide quite good and refreshing entertainment.
It's all about novelty and originality. Something Nintendo is completely lacking (and its fanbois cannot imagine) .
Sony knows they won't be first, or second, this generation but they've won the format war, which I believe was their sole purpose. They're just going to worry about minimizing loses and keeping their fanbase satisfied in prepartion for the next run. I think the next cycle is going to be crazy exciting as MS and Sony are going to pull out all the stops to one up the other. I can't wait!
xbox 360 is doing well and its not desperation that's driving the prices down its good marketing strategy. They've been out longer and have been making a profit on the 360 within the first year so price drops would'nt hurt them. On the other hand 20 gig hard drives are much cheaper and i read somewhere that they are planning to drop the 120 gig hdd to $150. then it would cost you: $200 for arcade console.
$150 for 120 gig hdd (which is presently $179. by the way).
$100 for wireless network adapter.
$50. for xbox live which is free on ps3 but is much better experience on xbox360
$400 for a backward compatible xbox 360 that has media center built in so you can stream movies directly from you desktop or laptop by wireless signal, it has better games and alot more than ps3 with hdmi like the ps3 no bluray though but who needs it really think about it how long do you feel bluray will last? a couple of years for the most, netflix is presently streaming digital movies to their customers and xbox360 customers who already have a strong library of movies. Apple is one of the largest if not the largest supplier of digital movies available for purchase and their computers do not support bluray. Microsoft recognizes that and so they haven't put any bluray or hd dvd into their console. I strongly doubt that the next generation of consoles will even have a disk drive. Notice i haven't included the wii because i am a hardcore gamer and the games on wii maybe more interactive but they aren't nearly as good of or deep of an experience as on xbox360 or ps3. The wii is strictly a gaming console, no hdd, it can't even play dvd's its not in their league but it is a casual gamers dream and i'll give it that. xbox 360 best value hands down!
Interesting. Can has 360?
i think this would still be a good purchase for owners of 1st gen 360s like me and want the hdmi out of the new versions. i can just switch over my hard drive to the new 360, and use my old one as a dvd player/media extender for the bedroom. add the $35 dollar hd-dvd attachment and some $7 hd-dvd movies from fry's and i'll have a pretty good secondary entertainment setup. i don't plan on buying the wifi adapter, and i honestly don't even really play the games on it anymore. so there's definitely a market for this...
and yes i still use hd-dvds. just because they're officially dead doesn't mean they all of a sudden stopped working. and since I have the ability to watch both hd-dvd and bluray discs on my media center computer, i really don't see the difference...
"It's all about novelty and originality. Something Nintendo is completely lacking (and its fanbois cannot imagine) ."
Nintendo is one of the few companies that can claim to have several blockbuster IPs that it doesn't have to share with anyone. For example - Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, etc... I guess you'd have to give them some originality points for creating some of the most beloved and accessible characters and games of all time. A lot of older gamers remember these series fondly and look forward to new titles with each new generation. I would consider myself a 'fanboy' - however, it's easy to see why we are fans and can't imagine Nintendo totally lacking originality - simply because they aren't. That's not to say that anyone else is either. See Mario Galaxy on MetaCritic and play it yourself for a picture perfect example of originality mixed with classic elements (that incidentally Nintendo pioneered to begin with).
Disregarding all the comments about who has the best games and whose console is the most powerful, it comes down to personal preference. I own a 360 because I wanted to play some 360 games online with my friends and use it as a media extender. I also own a Wii because I like the original and exclusive first party games. I do not own a PS3, because there haven't been any games for it yet that I want to play that weren't already out for one of the others or both. Blu-ray isn't something I'm interested in either until the cost of the actual movies is more in line with current gen DVD pricing.
So if you analyze that paragraph, you'll see a lot of "I own" "I want" "I like" ... all personal preference. Every time I read these comment sections under console entries, it turns into a war about who has what and what's better. Well, there will always be someone that agrees with you, and probably ten times as many that disagree...
This is nice. My 360 hit the RROD. I had a pro. Now I went out, bought the Arcade, got a few nice games, HDMI output, a second wireless controller, memory card.
The saddest part of now having my HDD Arcade: The disk drive on the Arcade is white, compared to the silver drive on my Dead 360.
if you go on www.JustDeals.com you can get one for really cheap...refurbished but really for that price...and a warrenty, you can't beat it
I'm really happy with this new price, I bought the 360 from the States (I live in Paraguay), and for me is very fine because I don't need a hard disk because here the Internet is so slow I won't probably download any demo and also I don't want to play old Xbox games.
I just needed to buy a very cheap HDMI cable in order to plug it to my LCD TV.
