If one thing's clear, this
D90 thingy is ready to go. We just got our second set of
in-store pictures (thanks, Best Buy!), but these ones include the camera itself, rid of its pesky packaging. Street date is apparently tomorrow, with that $1,299 price standing firm.

i think you guys are developing an unhealthy obsession with this camera
i think is time for an intervention
gad get @ Sep 7th 2008 7:09AM
If Engadget has an unhealthy obsession, it's with Apple.
Evan R. @ Sep 6th 2008 3:26PM
Can't wait for this camera!
xValentine @ Sep 6th 2008 3:29PM
Best DSLR on it's Price Range.
Damn Nikon, great job.
D0rk @ Sep 6th 2008 3:29PM
I told myself I could live with a D50 for a bit longer
Then this thing strolled into town.
It's a common saying that lenses are a better use of funds than bodies, but that isn't stopping my temptation unfortunately
jason @ Sep 6th 2008 3:33PM
ya - i'm also upgrading from a d50. this is "the one"!
sekine @ Sep 6th 2008 3:29PM
Which Best Buy?
Mark @ Sep 6th 2008 3:30PM
Picked Mine up today at Best Buy (09-06-08). Had to get Manager's approval to purchase as the D90 is not GA to public until tomorrow per sales rep.
Paul @ Sep 6th 2008 4:02PM
The spy photographer needs to learn about something called minimum focus distance. When you are TOO CLOSE to something, it will come out blurry.
Kamokazi @ Sep 7th 2008 12:08AM
It's a Best Buy camera area employee...you expect them to know details like that?
xValentine @ Sep 7th 2008 1:09AM
give the guy a break.,
he might have been using a cam phone only.
What do you want him to do? use the D90 to shoot the D90 in front of a mirror ?
Quad @ Sep 6th 2008 4:15PM
Uh... Go down to your local Wolf Camera and try it out. I just did, they just opened a new box. Looks and feels nice.
steven @ Sep 6th 2008 4:21PM
Look at that HUGE, black... LENS!!!
gad get @ Sep 7th 2008 7:11AM
Never seen an SLR lens before?
distordz @ Sep 6th 2008 4:39PM
You can see a Nikon D90 test on http://www.ilogan.info/?p=778
wickedpheonix @ Sep 6th 2008 5:15PM
I still try to appreciate the irony when blurry pictures are taken of a high-end camera.
blue_monkey @ Sep 6th 2008 5:26PM
It should be a nice camera, but it ought to be a crime for people to publish shots of it taken on a camera-phone.
DJFriar @ Sep 6th 2008 5:27PM
Well, I miss Boston, haven't been there in almost a decade. But I'd probbaly choose somewhere new, maybe Cancun. :) I'll be sure to drop ya a postcard if I win. :)
DJFriar @ Sep 6th 2008 5:30PM
Sorry Engadget, forgot to change 1Password to not auto-submit. I fixed it now.
DJFriar @ Sep 6th 2008 5:29PM
I want one to replace my d50 as well. For nothing other than the GPS ability. The only downside is that I haven't seen anything that will support the use of the GS and a external flash, which seems odd to me. But I want the GPS feature soooo bad.
That said, my d50 is still a far better camera than I'll ever be able to handle.
Mike @ Sep 6th 2008 5:58PM
OMG!!!
A GINGER!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Bleck @ Sep 6th 2008 6:02PM
Man... I was just going to buy a D80 with the 18-55 and the 70-200mm too for ~$850. I am only a High School Student Amateur and I have been saving for quite a while. Should I save some more and get the D90? (I have always wanted a High Def "camcorder").
Judson Collier @ Sep 6th 2008 6:17PM
Certain Ritz Camera stores actually already have the D90 in stock. I bought mine this morning at 11am. I had to check a couple stores to hit the jackpot, but sure enough a few minutes before I walked in, they had received the package (The workers told me they had recieved only three).

Conrad @ Sep 6th 2008 7:04PM
Over at Chase Jarvis' site he's got a video of the camera in action if you want more than just a photo to look at.
James H @ Sep 6th 2008 9:02PM
Bought mine at Best Buy Plano, Tx. The guy seemed puzzled there weren't any at the display (the D90 was already out on display), but he just went in back and got me one. I have already taken five pictures of my cat that will redefine photography as we know it.
San Pedro @ Sep 6th 2008 9:11PM
Release date is your mom. We sold the three received today at Ritz in 2 hours. They're HANDSOME!
innuen6o @ Sep 6th 2008 9:41PM
Doesn't his ring look like a creepy eye, just staring. Always staring.
Will @ Sep 6th 2008 10:04PM
Is it ironic that someone unboxing a D90 doesn't know how to focus?
lee @ Sep 6th 2008 10:45PM
any release date for Korea or is this a global release?
I spoke to a guy at a local Hi-mart here and he said sometime around September 19th.
bah need to go to Seoul...
LatinGroove @ Sep 6th 2008 11:34PM
Just got mine @ Ritz in Studio City :-D
This baby kick @ss!
Tom @ Sep 6th 2008 11:58PM
I work at a camera store of the Ritz chain, and we got three D90's in a rare Saturday delivery, this morning. We certainly weren't expecting them. Let me tells ya...they are NICE! The video is crisp and clear (from what we could gather from watching the LCD), she clicks off photos at a rate that makes you want to jump for joy. We put them on the shelf right away, because our boss wanted to rub it in the faces of the other stores in the area. One of my co-workers ever managed to sell one to a lucky early adopter. I gotta say, this is the SLR I want!

Ever notice how all digital cameras (>$100) do the same thing equally well? Why pay more?
Kilopane @ Sep 7th 2008 1:11AM
Err.... nope?
Abuzar Baloach @ Sep 7th 2008 2:04AM
Did you know the PS2(approx 100) and a high end computer can both play tetris? Why pay more?
octoberasian @ Sep 7th 2008 12:49AM
My god! If I had the money to spend, this is THE camera to get.
I love photography and I do it on the side when I'm out-and-about. A friend got me into photography.
I've been keeping up-to-date with this camera, and I am just giddy with joy that it's coming out. I hope someone is nice enough to give me this for my birthday. *hint, hint*
(*whispers* It's Oct. 29. ~.^ )

lascenefiend @ Sep 7th 2008 2:07AM
I'll sell you one today Ritz Camera Beverly Hills, CA
Apoc @ Sep 7th 2008 5:32AM
The camera is pretty freaking sweet, very heavy, great pictures and video (checked them out on my laptop). We got 3 in at Ritz yesterday, within 2 hours had sold two of them off, but the rain in the area meant almost no one else stopped in for anything so we still have one... going to stick it in the glass display up front today to show off in front of all the other stores in the district... who have NONE! ha.. Why we got 3 vrs a store that actually has good sales records is beyond me...
WaitIsOver @ Sep 7th 2008 12:36PM
Wait is over! Got mine last night...had a chance to try it out @ the Yankees Vs. Mariners game...one word - Awesome!
Stephen @ Sep 7th 2008 1:56PM
Got mine at Best Buy in Twin Falls, ID this morning. It was not on display but there was 1 box sitting there in the lockbox under the display cabinet :)
Wayne @ Sep 7th 2008 9:04PM
To all who have dissed my photo taking skills.... IT IS A CELL PHONE (t-mobile DASH) that has taken these pictures. I guess I was so excited to finally get it open, and got blown away by its beauty, I didn't bother using another SLR to shows the d90's grace.
Kissimmee, FL store if anyone has any questions.... ask for the guy with the creepy ring.
vbtrash @ Sep 8th 2008 1:59AM
with all this hype over the hd video recording capabilities, one question comes to my mind - how much memory would we require to record say 10min at the highest setting?
timmytimetravel @ Sep 9th 2008 7:14PM
It requires about 600mb per 5 minutes on highest setting. I got one on Sunday and shot a polo match on an 8gb shdc. I didn't leave it running all the time, but then the action only looked good as the galloping horses came in range of the 135mm f2.8 I had on the end of it :)
I had plenty of room left for stills too.
Some high def footage of it on vimeo here - http://vimeo.com/1695189
anorphirith @ Sep 8th 2008 12:18PM
BS I saw it yesterday at ritz camera, in Brea Mall, they had it out ready to be sold, I played with it and D movie is truly AWESOME, the camera feels very sturdy, a real evolution over my poor little XSi ...
