Gizmondo taking Android for a ride?
Like a fiery car crash across the center divide, we just can't divert our attention from the antics of Gizmondo. Gizmondoforums, the self-described "home of the Gizmondo fanbase" (really, they have enough fans to create a base?) is carrying this quote from Rich Jenkins, who along with Carl Freer co-founded Media Power, the company now in charge of Gizmondo:
expected said to be WinCE 6-based and scheduled for an end of 2008 release. While this Android talk makes it all a bit more interesting, it certainly doesn't make it any more likely to happen.
"We are excited about the potential of Android and have been working on an Android version of the Giz...Android would be a TERRIFIC addition to the Gizmondo and enable a TON of open source development."Originally, the Gizmondo 2.0 gaming console was

Haha nice cover image.
I prefer it like this:

Gizmodo is a forbidden word at Engadget, isn't it?
ricker. ive noticed your last few posts have been a little bit bitter....
is everything okay? did you're girlfriend break up with you, or maybe your dog ran away?
if you wanna talk, i'm here for you.
Of course their antics are hard to ignore...if it wasn't for the extra "n" in their name they'd be Gizmodo, only not....
So basically a phone that doubles up as a gaming console? What about battery life?
fifth!
And last in life. Congrats!
Lol nice picture.
@jai techinically yes though more of a text/mms device with gaming/GPS aswell, battery life in the original sucks cause the boss carl said it had no power management settings changes, so only 4 hours of play (hope they fix this)
This photo always makes me cry a little on the inside. Damn you Stefan!
hmm, so Gizmondo lovers have a forum, yet Engadget users dont?
"Gizmondoforums, the self-described "home of the Gizmondo fanbase"
"(really, they have enough fans to create a base?)"
well obviously they do, wtf engadget isnt the 10's of thousands of people that come here enough to even fix ur commenting system, let alone a forum
god damn this life! (im joking i am not a fanatic) < i hope that does not tend to my low ranking demise
I'm crushed you didn't work in a cheap shot at the Zune.
Unlike Engadget, the dark overlords at Gizmodo can kill your access to comment on their site without reason, appeal or recourse. AT least Engadget gives everyone the ability to comment no matter how lame.
i'm sure engadget has rules for its commenters as much as gizmodo does rick. think its the same with every site.
Oh Gizmondo!!!! I thought they were talking about Gizmodo.com!
Sorrrry.
Trevsweb ,
The problem is they can ban me, but since there is no way to stop me from posting as another name its a moot point. Now I guess it would be possible to ban an IP address but since I post at home on a dynamic IP, and work from a dynamic IP. Not much they can do.
That said I like to keep my bases covered and try not to be too much of a douche on the board....too much. :-D
Gizmondo - is that pronounced with a hard G sound, or a J sound?
The do have a fan base. All 5 of them. Probably own Lamborghini's and have a deep hate for all things Ferrari.
All your base are belong to us?
mention-Android-and-generate-hype school of PR.
is anyone forgetting this company is basically a small group of guys who have made nothing, done nothing and generally just put out press releases? because i have not. nosiree.
Their name-dropping of Android and referencing of Open Source is so laughable given the history of the Gizmondo (@konshuss - they actually did release hardware - total flop). It has been anything but open. It was a device that requires a connection (GPRS only; no voice) via prepaid service in order to use. You needed to be connected to access your own data as I recall.
Then theres the fact that Stefan has been linked to organized crime. Yeah - I really trust this guy to make this happen. Where can I sign up to invest?
i think i may have been blocking it out. but seriously, is there any reason to report anything from these guys until they have fully working hardware? i thought this site was called engadget, not envapor. engadget keeps giving them the benefit of the doubt using up valuable site real estate that could go toward a better cause, like a new photo of the gen 4 nano from a slightly different angle.
I hate gizbono, that site blows. Everything about it maddens me like a cheap whore who dropped her last bit of crack down the sewer pipe in a lonely alley...
SHoe (nice name) might be a total huge gimmick but so has DS's touch screen look how good that turned out.
the last gizmondo wasnt open your right but slightly wrong on the data thing you got given a simcard to use but the fact you can use any provider uses GPRS but depending on what your provider charges is up to your savvy bartering skills.you also never need to be connected to the net if you dont wish to (unless you want to be able to send and recieve messages).
yep steffie is the bad guy in all this HE however is not running the ship these days (thank god) Carl my be a bit iffy with a fruad aligation but im sure if there was anything dodgy he wouldve been busted. if a semi decent games console with andoid comes out then ill be very happy :)
@ thedesolate1 nop i drive a toyota :P and havent crashed it once :D
