warrrennnnn @ Sep 9th 2008 11:18PM
You know what else is OBLIGATORY?
spellcheck.
dark star @ Sep 9th 2008 11:21PM
i think u meant "obituary," right???
that guy is skinnier by the minute!!!! all i see is skin on bones. wow!
John @ Sep 9th 2008 11:03PM
So the 11+ articles werent enough? You needed a 12th?
There is so little meaningful information in this event that you could have had 1 article containing it all like you do with every other brand releasing product updates.
Gman @ Sep 9th 2008 11:05PM
Just to let everyone know, the wave of excitement seemed to crash Apple's website. Whenever I click on the links to go to the pages about the Ipod touch or nano (and possibly others, I haven't tried), I get a long, ugly error message.
helloUser @ Sep 9th 2008 11:06PM
Been a long day? Joshua, do you own apple stock? Dont kid yourself, its been a failday at apple, near nothing exciting happened, other than getting Gay Pride iPods. This had to have been one of the most uneventful keynotes ever.
Gman @ Sep 9th 2008 11:11PM
I wouldn't call it uneventful. The new nano actually looks good, but I think I'm getting an itouch
helloUser @ Sep 10th 2008 12:44AM
Low ranked? While others make the same comments and get highly ranked? I wonder why.....
MoonMan @ Sep 10th 2008 1:24AM
I agree, quite the uneventful day. Yay, another redesign of the iPod Nano... Oh, and LESS storage for the Classic... And look, iPod Touch now has a curved back...
Apple needs to lay low on stupid product updates. I haven't been excited about an Apple event for a while now.
NOW AVAILABLE IN PINK!!!!! is not an excuse to rent a big mother f*cking conference room, and invite press from around the world.
Evangelion @ Sep 9th 2008 11:08PM
The keynote was good, but I still dislike the new nano's looks.
tpadekar @ Sep 10th 2008 1:38AM
Well played, sir!
I think you've put the non-Apple fanboys in a dilemma over whether to low-rank you for saying the keynote was good or high-rank you for saying you dislike the new Nanos! lol
jlopez @ Sep 9th 2008 11:10PM
looks like jobs did it again... this month i just bought a 80gig classic and bought my wife a 8 gig nano... now you can get the nano in 16 gig for 150 and the 120 gig for 250?????? its hard to type this bending over...
MoonMan @ Sep 10th 2008 1:27AM
You bought those this month? And you read Engadget? How could you NOT see the product updates coming?
But really, it's no biggie, because they haven't pushed technology a little further today, they just threw new paint on old ideas.
SteveJ @ Sep 10th 2008 8:15AM
Well, that plus higher capacity for significantly less money. I think that's the biggest deal here. Not that it has anything to do with reading Engadget or other tech sites and not knowing that an update was coming....
Joshwa @ Sep 10th 2008 8:45PM
Hold on... you're a reader of engadget, who mercilessly cover apple product events, launches, unboxings, etc etc and yet failed to wait for the muchly anticipated "let's rock" Apple event, which was speculated to be an ipod event.
Especially given the "let's rock" advert has someone jumping up and down with what we now know to be a shake-me nano...
hmmm - damn you, jobs.
John @ Sep 9th 2008 11:11PM
I wouldn't say that all the articles were unnecessary, but it was a pretty boring keynote. The iPod classic refresh was pretty boring, the nano refresh brought it back to the look of the 2G nano, the iPod touch update dropped the price, which makes me consider getting one, but didn't really bring any amazing new features. The in-ear headphones are probably going to be very overpriced for the quality (e.g., consider how expensive the earbuds are, then consider how much a 1G shuffle is). Is there going to be a release event for the new Zune firmware? I'm in the market for a new PMP and I want to figure out if I should go with touch or Zune
John @ Sep 9th 2008 11:17PM
What you couldnt find the zune 3.0 story underneath all this apple news today?
Neon Jebus @ Sep 9th 2008 11:17PM
As an iPod Touch and iPod mini owner, I love my girlfriends Zune. She picked up a red 8GB and I was impressed with it. I was shocked the radio built into it worked as well as it did. I think the Zune gets a bad rap which is too bad really.
thedudeabides @ Sep 9th 2008 11:20PM
OMG ZUNE DUH. FMRADIOWIRELESSSYNCRDSSUPPORT. Join The Social, BRAH.
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Sep 10th 2008 1:06AM
I just finished watching the event, and yeah, it was pretty uneventful. I don't mean that as a bad thing, just that the event was overhyped and over-covered. An annual music event isn't supposed to have as many new products and as much excitement as a WWDC or Macworld keynote. And anyway, the audience is reporters instead of developers and gadget freaks. A few product changes and software changes are not worthy of huge press nor huge expectations.
I was amazed how Jobs repeatedly (2-3 times) emphasized how many bugs were fixed in the 2.1 firmware. He's a good marketer, and while he'll admit to bugs, he's never gone this far out of his way to highlight them.
Rachel @ Sep 10th 2008 11:36AM
What makes zunes worth it is that they will keep updating the firmware with new features, unlike apple, who now wants me to buy a new nano for genius playlist and whatnot.
JSGasse @ Sep 13th 2008 9:14AM
I got the Cowon D2 myself. I love it, has the touch interface too. You could go with the Q5W, but I am one of those Linux freak so a MP3 player with windows... not going to happened. But since you are mulling taking a Zune, I'm guessing it is not a problem for you.
If you want a full PMP, I think the Archos 605 wifi is pretty good, got that one too. The battery don't last as much on the Archos, but it has a lot of capacity on it.
Darn, just went the Archos website, the 7 series looks good. And the battery life is improved... decision time maybe...
Anyway, both good product. Hope I did not make your choice harder.
Mike @ Sep 9th 2008 11:12PM
ipods are gay
tb @ Sep 10th 2008 1:43AM
maybe they are not, but the article pic is pretty gay (it's almost the exact colors of the gay pride flag)
Welshie @ Sep 10th 2008 11:43AM
That image just show's that there are ALOT of sheep out there.
Neon Jebus @ Sep 9th 2008 11:13PM
I hope we get a post about Apple answering for kicking first gen iPod Touch users and iPhone users in the teeth with Nike+.
The one thing I was looking forward to out of todays event was using Nike+ with my Touch.
iEye @ Sep 9th 2008 11:16PM
So what now?
more apple drivel?
iPhone = inches
iNano = mm
Touch = feet
Shuffle = cc
how about using money to illustrate the size of gadgets instead of iCrap?
Excuse me while I vomit with rage
Dillon @ Sep 9th 2008 11:22PM
I wouldn't do that if I were you. That's just asking to create acid burn in your esophagus.
Heshmati4 @ Sep 9th 2008 11:33PM
When did Apple start calling the ipod Nano, iNano?
I already hate it when people call the Touch, iTouch! :)
B.Cherry @ Sep 9th 2008 11:19PM
I'm tired of Apple and their self-fish ways! I'm gettin' a Zune when my 60GB iPod Photo gives out! I could careless about new features; I'm only concerned with space and playin' the music. Every year Apple upgrades and everybody rushed out to buy the new products. Apple got ya'll trained. SMH (Shakin' My Head)...
JAmerican @ Sep 9th 2008 11:20PM
I want to know how the Lithium-polymer battery in the iPods are highly recyclable.
Also, how do you minimize waste when you made features exclusive to new products like the Nike+ integration.
Apple has just got to stop. They are turning into what people think Microsoft is.
thedudeabides @ Sep 9th 2008 11:31PM
Look out for this guy.
Hey Chief - How many cases of bottled water have you purchased in the last twelve months? Thanks for playing.
B.Cherry @ Sep 9th 2008 11:34PM
It's called "good marketin'"! They do this crap on purpose, so people can upgrade their perfect workin' pmp's for somethin' that they think is better! (Cough) 3G iPhone; still no mms, video record, flash, bluetooth A2DP, 32/64GB, voice dial, copy&paste, front camera. As you can clearly see, Apple doesn't care what we want! Well, they do, but they rather take baby steps and make millions along the way rather then just givin' us want we want right away. That and I wish I would be a Apple Fanboy, or anybody Fanboy period. Apple ain't benefitin' me. Nor is them rappers! I pirated all my movies, programs, and music!!! I still have to bust my behind in school and work while the top executive get chipped off! It's all good though, I'm not hatin' on Apple's plan. I just think that f'd up how Apple got some people brained washed.
ethana2 @ Sep 10th 2008 12:18AM
They are pretty irresponsible. Let's say that the world all of a sudden goes their way and everyone buys a mac.
.....what are we supposed to do with our perfectly good non-apple PC's?
Screw that. I have this machine, it's a good one, and Apple can license their OS or stay the frick out of my life.
happy_penguin @ Sep 10th 2008 6:00AM
How the fuck does Nike integration affect waste? And how does Apple's domination of the DAP market affect Microsoft's domination of the desktop OS market. Apple will never take over the PC market but they're not showing any signs, yet, of giving up the DAP market. That is the way it has been for several years, it's the way it is today and probably going to be for quite a while.
Seriously, people, the fanboyisms were old a long time ago.
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Sep 9th 2008 11:21PM
I am really thinking of getting an Ipod Touch (my first Apple product as an Apple hater) or an Archos 5.
I like the Archos for the much more storage you get for the price, larger, higher resolution screen and Flash 9 support in the web browser.
But I like the Ipod for its support, popularity and app store.
thehumanyawn @ Sep 9th 2008 11:26PM
You should review the earphones, and let us know how good they are and if they will work with the iPhone.
Heshmati4 @ Sep 9th 2008 11:35PM
The new headphones look promising, but I will have to check them out myself before I give apple $79!

John @ Sep 9th 2008 11:56PM
Today's release was extremely UNDERWHELMING. This would be the equivalent of Microsoft throwing a press gala to introduce a service pack.
phanbouy @ Sep 10th 2008 12:03AM
you guys crack me up. it's like some of you lurk here all day waiting to see the mention of apple in any post or comment so you can trot out your tired old dog and pony shows.
if you're really that Divinely Inspired, why don't you go invent something or work for the competition... or at least be funny instead of bile-ridden hatemongers. freakin a.
sarcastor @ Sep 10th 2008 12:04AM
i went to the SF union square store and they were selling the 3rd gen 4gb nano for $130.
i laughed in his face.
Matt @ Sep 10th 2008 12:06AM
Boring....
Does anyone really care about Apple events like these? I mean, come on, that's all Apple does anymore - make a big deal out of upgrading their product lines when every other company out there does this on a daily basis.
Apple needs to get over themselves. The hype isn't getting it done anymore.
Lame ass events like this are killing their fans.
For all you Apple fans ready to blast this post; I have 4 Apple computers in my house running around the clock. And I don't use Windows or Linux, but at least I can see past all the BS hype Apple lauds on itself.
phanbouy @ Sep 10th 2008 12:09AM
my first gen MBP still works fine and gets software updates all the time.
that's all i care about. if they come out with a fuscia colored Shuffle and throw a Shuffle Pride Parade, good for them
Marty Griffin @ Sep 10th 2008 12:15AM
I applaud you sir.
phanbouy @ Sep 10th 2008 3:22AM
i'm not disagreeing with the OP, just asking why i should care enough about a lackluster product launch to stop enjoying what i already own?
phanbouy @ Sep 10th 2008 11:41PM
ha... cocksucking windows fanboys, blow it out your ass
Steve @ Sep 10th 2008 12:14AM
Good to see Steve Jobs is still coming up with new innovations
http://theinspirationroom.com/daily/2008/apple-ipod-nano-chromatic/
Can't wait until the new model Apple laptops launch, yaaaay!!!
tpadekar @ Sep 10th 2008 1:48AM
I sure hope that was sarcasm, Steve! :-s
