HP's 8.9-inch
2133 Mini-Note is apparently
a raging success, so it makes sense that the company would want to expand the line, and it looks like we might be getting a preview of what's in store with the Digital Clutch, a bright red 10-inch netbook that debuted last night during designer Vivienne Tam's fashion week show in NYC. Not much is known about the internals, but the case sports an Asian-inspired peony flower design, and the screen fills the entire lid with very little bezel. If we had to guess, we'd say that it's more likely that there's a VIA Isaiah chip in there instead of an Atom, given the C7M found in the current Mini-Note, but we'll see -- and hopefully soon, since at least one HP rep apparently confirmed that the machine is the next generation Mini-Note. "The funnest HP ever."
Blackstar @ Sep 10th 2008 11:39AM
I think even the "Hello Kitty" people would toss their cookies after looking at this thing.
Boarderwoot @ Sep 10th 2008 11:40AM
For shizzle. I can't believe someone made a concious decision to put that on a slide during a "professional" presentation.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 10th 2008 4:47PM
Ah fuck I'm gonna PUKE!!! FUGLY!!!
RedBull Runner @ Sep 11th 2008 12:51AM
MY EYES! THE BURNING! MAKE IT STOP!
jayp0411 @ Sep 10th 2008 11:19AM
that keyboard is ugly as sin!!
bob @ Sep 10th 2008 12:02PM
the keyboard stands out to you? lol
KarlW @ Sep 10th 2008 12:09PM
It's hard to tell from the picture (it hurts to strain your eyes for the details), but it looks like the trackpad is as bad as ever.
So you'll strain your wrists whilst going blind! Fantastic.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 10th 2008 4:56PM
Too bad no black hole today..............
dervheid @ Sep 11th 2008 4:36AM
No Black Hole Today?
That thing is creating it's own black hole, sucking all the style and class out of the universe.
phantomo.lui @ Sep 10th 2008 11:20AM
OMG! It hurts my eyes!
:) @ Sep 10th 2008 11:47AM
(Hands him some sunglasses)
Why in the world would they make it a hot pink? Ugly...
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 10th 2008 4:49PM
@ :) it's not even real hot pink, it's one shade below. man they should have made it SHIT BROWN, atleast the eye strain wouldn't be there and if it turns out to be a piece of crap well aptly coloured.
Andrew @ Sep 10th 2008 4:53PM
So this is what hell looks like? I think the only thing worse than having to look at this hellspawn is talking to the girl owning one of these.
LarryLarryLarry @ Sep 11th 2008 3:40AM
It's a stroke of luck that you've never, nor will you, talk to a girl.
No, Mom doesn't count.
XenoX101 @ Sep 10th 2008 11:21AM
I was going to write something about how easy it would be to steal a laptop being used as a clutch. But then I realised just how ugly this thing is. And the keyboard is flatter than Paris Hilton.
pe3ko @ Sep 10th 2008 11:23AM
dude this is awesome!
they just need a diff color
Mario @ Sep 10th 2008 11:22AM
Holy shit! That's not a computer you want to be using when you have a hangover!
Chris @ Sep 10th 2008 11:23AM
Good thing they didn't open it up all the way, I don't think I could have handled it.
Make that thing is fugly.
Stets @ Sep 10th 2008 11:24AM
" ... and the screen fills the entire lid with very little bezel."
Looks like quite a large bezel to me, its just that the glass extends over the bezel and to the edge of the lid.
BigDaddyM @ Sep 10th 2008 11:51AM
That is what I just thinking, it still has a large bevel. I guess Engadget needs to stop drinking and postig.

sockatume @ Sep 10th 2008 2:51PM
It's got a bezel, obviously, otherwise there'd be nowhere to put the usual bits and pieces that go into a laptop lid (camera, hinges, antennas). The point is that it's now normal-sized to accomodate a 10" LCD, whereas the Mini-Note had an outsized bezel around its 8.9" screen.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 10th 2008 4:50PM
By "screen" they mean the "glass" covering it to the ends. Nice marketing there guys....
Edward Moy @ Sep 10th 2008 11:27AM
I smell a T-Mobile lawsuit.
Hellaphunt @ Sep 10th 2008 11:27AM
Something tells me that their target demographics are the computer illiterate.
Fashion + Technology = A sliver of users who care to have both in a notebook.
rav97 @ Sep 10th 2008 1:51PM
Something tells me that their target demographics are the color blind.
Mackenzie @ Sep 10th 2008 7:04PM
Um, or it's for girl geeks.
Why's everyone calling it ugly? It's bright red to look like a clutch purse, simple enough. Going to a fancy dress part, I'd definitely rather have a netbook than a purse. So if I can look I've got a really cute purse, but then excuse myself (as If going to the ladies room), take it with me like it's got my lipstick or something, and then hop on IRC, read through mailing lists, or triage a few bug reports to escape the boredom of IRL social interaction...great!
Ninjakamster (PS360 FTW!) @ Sep 10th 2008 11:35AM
As long as it doesn't use the C7 processor in the original model, thats good.
ShadowMaker @ Sep 10th 2008 11:37AM
I don't know what I find more worrying: the fact that they're thinking it will sell to women, just because it's pink or the fact that they're probably right.
)law( @ Sep 10th 2008 11:40AM
My eyes!!! The goggels they do nothing!!!!!!!!!
Conrad @ Sep 10th 2008 11:47AM
uh is it just me or is that thing bright pink instead of red?
rony @ Sep 10th 2008 11:52AM
1st 100 buyers get a pink unicorn free!!!!
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Sep 10th 2008 4:51PM

Don Corleone @ Sep 10th 2008 12:02PM
It looks like only a Japanese schoolgirl should would like this.
Adam @ Sep 10th 2008 12:06PM
Is this thing a joke? If not it will go most likely ship with some hip 70's bug eyed glass to dim the fugly color down for you!
ronzo @ Sep 10th 2008 12:11PM
MY EYES!!!!!!!!! They BURN!!!!!
Joe Anstine @ Sep 10th 2008 12:14PM
holy shit its pink...
BOGRASH @ Sep 10th 2008 12:37PM
lets hope this isnt the way the mini note crashes and burns, hopefully hp will get back on track and do the right thing aka:
keep the looks of the original mininote
10 inch screen (or whatever fits the area best) with MINIMUM BEZEL and less glare
5 hour battery life standard without huge price/size/weight hike
ditch pad for trackpoint
isiah perhaps but a dual atom if not
lighter, quieter, cooler
32/64gb fast ssd
that would be the ticket, offer a slate or convertible version also and i will jizz my shorts. the hp2730p is the only tablet that looks like professional designers were consulted - hp really need to spread this love asap
olsonick @ Sep 10th 2008 12:42PM
'Ten-inch mini-note' was my nickname in high school.
Rick @ Sep 10th 2008 12:46PM
And I held off buying a Pink MSI Wind thinking that was gaudy.

Gotta say, I'm loyal to HP - always have been. I'm running a 7 year old HP laptop at home that works on XP amazingly well after all this time. But they're starting to lose me with their underpowered netbook offerings. The Eee and Dell's new Mini Inspiron are higher rated and more powerful than the last Mini-Note. I hope when HP drops the specs on this new one, it's packing a better resource punch.
Patrick @ Sep 10th 2008 1:04PM
Did HP get T-Mobile's permission to use that color?
Magallanes @ Sep 10th 2008 2:11PM
